Another 'Help Me Choose an Engagement Ring' Thread...

Okay...so of course I will make the final decision but which ring would you go for?

Ring 1: Sapphire & two diamonds £3.5k

Ring 2: Three diamonds and a diamond band £1.5k

The photos aren't brilliant and don't do either ring justice (plus I have fat fingers so obviously they don't fit!).

The sapphire one is the one that makes my eyes light up. I love it because the sapphire makes it not the norm but still classy. The diamonds are really good quality and sparkly. It's expensive though and part of me thinks it's worth it for a ring I'll wear every day for the rest of my life. The other half of me thinks that extra £2k would come in handy.

The second one is nice. I like it. I just don't LOVE it like the sapphire. But it's £2k cheaper which is a lot of money!

WWYD?

What a fab decision you make in the end! That sapphire is an amazing blue!

SleepingStandingUp · 24/12/2021 22:58

Sapphire is lovely.
Diamond one is fine, nothing special

That's so funny....I started reading this thread and was like "Oh, you need to go to Hatton Garden. The sapphire one is like one I tried and I got a MUCH better ring there for less money"

Then I realised this was my thread under a different name.

Got a BLOODY LOVELY sapphire and diamond ring, twice as nice for £2.8k in Hatton Garden and have been married just over 4 years now Grin

Defo 1

thisplaceisweird · 26/12/2021 21:12

Check gemporia! I think you need an option C. The sapphire is nice but not if you can't afford it without getting nervous. The other one looks a bit small on your hands, it's not very flattering.

Congratulations! So glad you chose something you love.
weddingdressregrett · 26/12/2021 22:02

Sapphire is stunning! You need to love it!

weddingdressregrett · 26/12/2021 22:03

Whoops! Didn't read the whole thread - congrats @wheresmymojo ❤️

weddingdressregrett · 26/12/2021 22:04

@wheresmymojo you have to show us the ring now!

offtothebeach · 27/12/2021 02:56

Definitely worth a visit to the Lanes. I chose my ring there and I've never seen another ring like it. I think it is possible and fairly cheap to dip/plate a gold ring if you're not keen on yellow gold.

PositivelyFooked · 27/12/2021 03:11

Ring 1, I love a sapphire. It was my first choice but DP wasn’t sure on buying me a ‘coloured diamond’ as feared it might go out of fashion quickly Xmas Angry I love my engagement ring, we did end up picking it together although it was way out of budget so it was still a huge surprise when I saw it as I thought I’d get similar, not that one! But I still get a little jealous when I see a sapphire ring perched upon ones finger GrinSad

Pangolin44 · 27/12/2021 05:29

This thread is five years old.

Engagement rings are embarrassing. I'm always a little amazed when women actively want them.

PositivelyFooked · 27/12/2021 10:59

@Pangolin44 well if there’s ever a comment on mumsnet that could look cringe worthingly bitter and jealous it would be that one 😂

Imagine feeling that strongly over a piece of jewellery that another woman wants. Goodness me. Blush

Anonmousse · 27/12/2021 11:07

I'm a jeweller (I work at the bench) and would definitely say get what you love, not what is ok but in budget. You've got a pic, so possible to try other (independent) jewellers to see if they can make one similar but within your budget. Having a bespoke ring can be cheaper than buying something "of the shelf".

Also ideally you want it to be "wedfit" meaning it will sit neatly against another wedding band.

sueelleker · 27/12/2021 11:23

The sapphire one is gorgeous, and suits you better than the band. I don't know where you live, but I'm in Brighton; and the Lanes shopping area has lots of second-hand jewellers. They have some lovely stuff.
