Okay...so of course I will make the final decision but which ring would you go for?

Ring 1: Sapphire & two diamonds £3.5k

Ring 2: Three diamonds and a diamond band £1.5k

The photos aren't brilliant and don't do either ring justice (plus I have fat fingers so obviously they don't fit!).

The sapphire one is the one that makes my eyes light up. I love it because the sapphire makes it not the norm but still classy. The diamonds are really good quality and sparkly. It's expensive though and part of me thinks it's worth it for a ring I'll wear every day for the rest of my life. The other half of me thinks that extra £2k would come in handy.

The second one is nice. I like it. I just don't LOVE it like the sapphire. But it's £2k cheaper which is a lot of money!

WWYD?

Oh wow, beautiful rings on the antique rings link and good prices. I think the 2 stone Art Deco cross over one towards the top would really suit you.

Theorchard · 21/06/2016 20:26

Go to Birmingham jewellery quarter and haggle, as pp said, it's worth the trip. It is also great fun because you can see and try so many different rings, lot at variations on a style you like (stone cut , setting etc) good luck!

RonSwansonsBestFriend · 21/06/2016 21:38

Definitely go through Hatton garden, have a good look to round

DAISYBD, you should be a hand model!

hollyisalovelyname · 22/06/2016 14:08

So OP, you can have a weekend away in Dublin or London or Birmingham or Brighton to look at rings.
Enjoy it.

itsbetterthanabox · 22/06/2016 14:20

My friend has an almost identical ring to the sapphire one but it was much less money.
You can find rings just like that for a fraction of the price

Similar and cheaper. Very pretty.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/06/2016 14:39

Ring 2 does not look anywhere near £1,500 worth, very underwhelming.
The sapphire is much nicer but YY shop around.

I like a central emerald cut (whatever the actual stone) with 2 round cut diamonds, but this seems to have fallen out of favour.

Have you looked at other blue toned gems like Tanzanite or Aquamarine?

LadyFarnborough · 22/06/2016 14:52

The sapphire one is lovely but agree it's overpriced. I am biased though as I have a sapphire engagement ring. Try The Lanes in Brighton as well, that's where mine is from. Very easy to haggle down there, think my OH got about £500 knocked off mine.

StickTheDMWhereTheSunDontShine · 22/06/2016 14:55

I don't like the diamond one at all. The Sapphire one is lovely, but probably a bit more than it's really worth. It has better looking diamonds in it than the diamond ring, though.

Wow...60 posts!

Thanks all for your suggestions. I will definitely be following them up Grin

I've come back to update...I went to Hatton Gardens and found (IMO) a much nicer and better quality ring in the same style as the original one I liked in Goldsmith's but for £700 less!

Photos attached, currently being resized so I get to pick it up on Friday. Eeek! Grin

@nehaparikar396 why on earth have you dredged up a thread that is over 5 years old? Spamming, maybe? 🤔

Wow!!! It is gorgeous! You did very well. It is beautiful. Wishing you all the best in your marriage. Congratulations!

starfishofbethlehem · 22/12/2021 19:29

Well as you said you have chubby fingers (as do I) so from the pictures the second two are too delicate, so it's the first one.

But like others have said, why not consider a vintage ring.

starfishofbethlehem · 22/12/2021 19:32

Oops I've been zombies!!

I was enjoying this thread Angry

sleepyhoglet · 24/12/2021 15:56

Don't rule out ebay. I got a beautiful vintage platinum trilogy diamond ring for £800 which probably would have cost £3k+ on the high street

ivykaty44 · 24/12/2021 20:57

russell-lane.co.uk/18-sapphires?p=2

id look somewhere like this, the rings are second hand and you get much more for your money. There are three shops in town and two do second hand, the other shop have may trays.

The second ring gets a bit lost whereas the first is larger and looks better on your hand.

ivykaty44 · 24/12/2021 20:59

ok zombie thread...!
