Is it ok or very definitely not ok to wear one's glasses on a chain around one's neck?

Only need glasses to read and write, can't wear them the rest of the time because then I go all woozy and swerve around like having had a lot of wine, but also never have them in the right room at the right time - or out with me at shops when trying to check the labels on chicken dippers and the like. Can I wear them on a chain - not a chain exactly but the current equivalent - around my neck or is that indefensible?

bump - for my Glasses Style Panel

marymillington · 22/01/2007 21:49

Sorry just makes me think of Hinge and Bracket

Whizzz · 22/01/2007 22:01

Nooooo - they didn't have a stylish handcrafted beaded one !

RustyBear · 23/01/2007 11:34

Not quite sure which way round it'll be in the finished product. Are the three beads in the middle (one dark, 2 green) meant to be at the back of the neck? Because I think they might be a bit uncomfortable with the weight of the glasses - would be better with a bare bit of cord at the back.
Looks lovely though.

Whizzz · 23/01/2007 16:01

Yes they were meant to be at the back - I see your point Rustybear ! I will turn that attempt into a normal necklace !

Back to the drawing board

version 2 The rubber bits (which I haven't got yet!) will go at the unfinished ends - what do you think?

merlotmama · 23/01/2007 22:41

I think these are great, Whizzz. I would buy them in a flash.

I've always worn my specs on a cord, (never a chain!), tho' currently I have a ribbon one, pink on one side, green on the other, which I got in an airport somewhere abroad. The US, maybe.

Convenience just has to outweigh style. You don't realise how much you do closework until you need reading glasses. I even wear mine to peel the potatoes.

RustyBear · 24/01/2007 09:52

Yes they're lovely - can I put in an advance order for one with red beads?

Whizzz · 24/01/2007 15:53

Certainly Rusty !!
Can you mail me on Whizzz_123 at yahoo.co.uk and we can sort something out
(you can test drive one for me )

merlotmama · 26/01/2007 15:28

Whizzz - I have emailed you too. Hope this is OK.

Whizzz · 26/01/2007 17:36

yes thats fine - I've mailed you back !

RustyBear · 27/01/2007 21:44

Thanks for the preview Whizzz - have emailed you again

RustyBear · 28/01/2007 12:48

I've just had the email bounced back - have tried again.....

Whizzz · 28/01/2007 19:15

Rusty - sorry, but I still haven't got your mail

RustyBear · 28/01/2007 19:29

I just said the necklace looks lovely & whether a cheque was OK or did you want me to set up a PayPal accout
I've tried again - I still can't see what was wrong as I just clicked reply to your email, so you wouldn't think it could screw it up would you?
Did you get the one with my address?
If this one doesn't get through I'll try from my work email tomorrow otherwise we may have to revert to snail mail!

Whizzz · 28/01/2007 19:55

The emails turned up !!
Cheers !

RustyBear · 01/02/2007 20:02

And so has the chain!
It's lovely Whizz - I've just sent you an email saying can I have a blue one for my work glasses - if that's OK I'll send you a cheque now for double the amount you said.

paulaplumpbottom · 01/02/2007 20:05

not ok

Aloha · 01/02/2007 20:05

Honestly? I'm 43 and I'd rather hang myself wtih a glasses chain than wear one

HuwEdwards · 01/02/2007 20:09

twoisenoughmum, IF you go down this rocky road, I suggest you get a blue rinse, one of those slippers you can get both feet into and a toilet roll cover that looks like an edwardian lady.

NO of course it is not right - and never ever will be.

wotzsaname · 01/02/2007 20:10

it am new to glass waering and now over the better side of 40, my fear is with a larger chest that i should crush them if they were aroudn my neck on a chin. where should one wear when not on ones face to ensure one does not lose them?

FWIW I dont have breast pockets as it makes my look enormous! so cant put there! OFGS lost them now/.

Aloha · 01/02/2007 20:11

I'd rather be blind as a bat! Can you imagine Kristin Scott-Thomas with glasses on a chain? Can you imagine Helen Mirren with glasses on a chain? I rest my case, m'lud.

Rustybear !! Glad its OK & mailed you back

RustyBear · 01/02/2007 20:14

Well, Whizzz has just made me a lovely beaded cord which hangs just below my fairly substantial bosom, is very light & comfortable to wear & doesn't cast a shadow down the sides of my face - in fact the beads look pretty much like long earrings.

So I'll just have to give up being 'stylish' in favour of comfort, convenience and not spending half my life lookng for my glasses.
