Should I chop off some of my daughters bobbed hair myself? The back is annoying me.

Hi, my 11 year old daughter has recently gone from long hair to a short inverted bob. It does look nice, but the back of it is annoying me. It's cut in a kind of v shape at the back of the neck. She's had inverted bobs before, but no ones ever cut a v shape like that before. I'm thinking of snipping it off so that it sits in a straight line. I'm not a hairdresser, but I am rather artistic and a bit of a perfectionist, so I should be able to do a good job... Is that v- shape the fashion though? I don't want to ruin the style or make it look strange.
Thanks.

Is it annoying your daughter?

chuffinalong · 21/04/2016 17:34

No, I don't think she's noticed as she can't see the back.

Isn't that the point of an inverted bob ?
Unless it bothers your dd I would leave it alone, after all it will quickly grow out .

chuffinalong · 21/04/2016 17:36

I'm not sure as it hasn't been cut like this before. If it's meant to be like that, i'll leave it. I just thought it looked a bit strange.

I can see what you mean
Perhaps the back layers aren't short enough? Or need thinning?
I'm not a hairdresser

chuffinalong · 21/04/2016 17:55

It is extremely thick hair...

I would definitely chop that off! Surely as it grows it would look like a little rat tail ponytail?

burnishedsilver · 21/04/2016 18:13

That doesnt look right.

ArieltheMermaid1720 · 21/04/2016 18:15

Yes that would definitely annoy me. I would chop it off.

NameChange30 · 21/04/2016 18:17

I would cut that off very carefully and find a better hairdresser next time.

MrsBungle · 21/04/2016 18:17

I would definitely chop that little tail off

flanjabelle · 21/04/2016 18:19

Yep that would annoy me too. It doesn't look good at all. Chop it off.

MrsLettuce · 21/04/2016 18:19

That looks like a dreadful cut! No harm in tidying it up but I'd be looking for another hairdresser for next time.

JustAnotherYellowBelly · 21/04/2016 18:20

Yep. Bye bye tailybit

Indecisivejo · 21/04/2016 18:29

I'm really sorry but that doesn't look like an inverted bob to me anyway regardless of that extra bit u want to chop! I think you should go back to where it was done and complain tbh

chuffinalong · 21/04/2016 18:31

Thanks everyone, I'll carefully snip it off. This hairdresser was highly recommended. Sigh...

It's tricky as he's my mums hairdresser and even wanted to do it for free as my daughter donated her long hair to charity. He was a lovely chap, but even so, I won't go back.

That is a ridiculously uneven cut. And I've had some shockers in my time. It needs redoing.

chuffinalong · 21/04/2016 18:47

Really!! Sad It's so short already, It really can't go any shorter as it's right on her jaw line. Her hair used to be almost waist length. Having it cut was such a huge step. I'm not sure who to trust next time.
She had it washed an blow dried last night, so it is a bit out of shape today having been slept on etc. Would that make a difference? I'll try to find a pic of when it was first done.

This is a side view the day she had it done

I've had that when I've had my hair bobbed but the back is more of a gentle M shape and the hair is much shorter than that so it looks right.

Houseworkavoider · 21/04/2016 19:05

Sack the hairdresser.
That looks to be a really shabby haircut.

StKildasNun · 21/04/2016 19:05

I wouldn't worry too much - maybe snip off the DA (Duck's Arse) if that is what worries you. My family all have vs at the back of the neck.

I had long hair cut short and the hair was very difficult to style as it was too healthy (and fell forward over my face) - never having been blasted regularly to style it or messed around with. Your DD will probably work out what is best to manage and what she likes in the next 6 months or so.

chuffinalong · 21/04/2016 19:06

It's one of those, after it's been done, you can't really change it as it's so short already. I'll chop off that little tailly thing, then just wait for it to grow down I think. I'll then let her have a slightly longer bob
