Should I chop off some of my daughters bobbed hair myself? The back is annoying me.

Hi, my 11 year old daughter has recently gone from long hair to a short inverted bob. It does look nice, but the back of it is annoying me. It's cut in a kind of v shape at the back of the neck. She's had inverted bobs before, but no ones ever cut a v shape like that before. I'm thinking of snipping it off so that it sits in a straight line. I'm not a hairdresser, but I am rather artistic and a bit of a perfectionist, so I should be able to do a good job... Is that v- shape the fashion though? I don't want to ruin the style or make it look strange.
Thanks.

From the second photo I can see that she has lovely hair (nice colour!) I don't like what he's done at the back but it will grow back.

Btw it was very brave of her to get her long hair cut short - and wonderful to donate it to charity. So I wouldn't want to undermine her confidence in her new look. With the tail trimmed off it will look fine at the back. And overall it seems to look good.

FWIW I have very thick hair and I have it very short and choppy now. I started with a long bob and over the years it's got shorter! It does need a very good hairdresser though, and regular cuts. Costs a fortune! But I don't get it coloured or spend money on getting my nails done or anything.

Thank you, yes, she does have lovely hair which is why we were reluctant to let her have it cut and obviously wanted a fantastic job! Sad I'll have to better research next time. My mum swears by him, but she has a more old fashioned style.

Don't worry too much, you weren't to know. IME a good hairdresser is like gold dust! Mine is on maternity leave now, I feel bereft

They do seem to be! M dd had a lovely bob from the age of 5-7 but the lady moved away and we never found another one as good.

I've done it!! I'm really pleased with my efforts, I think it looks a lot better now. Smile It should at least grow out a bit more even now.

I agree cut off the tail bit-that shouldn't be there on newly cut hair. My hair is an inverted bob which I'm trying to work out how best to grow it out and that bit at the back tends to appear 2 months after a hair cut. My hairdresser seems to spend most of the cutting time on the back to get the shape.

It was funny, I told my dd there was a little bit I wanted to chop off and she got worried, so I showed her the pic of the back of her hair and she said "oh god, yer! Chop that off, what was he thinking?" Grin

Much better op! Good job!!

MaccaPaccaismyNemesis · 21/04/2016 21:40

The back is far too 'stepped' and it makes the whole haircut heavy and unwieldy. Get thee to a decent hairdresser and put the scissors down!!

Thank you. Smile

I'm not sure anything can be done now until it grows out? The scissors are down now. Grin I just got rid of that little tail.

very easy to trim that . Make sure the scissors are sharp and use a comb to hold the bit steady as you cut.

Looks lovely 😊
