Lash serums - do they work and which would you recommend?

Hi all, my lashes are stupidly short and horrible and id really like to get them a bit longer! Ive used Rapidlash in the past and not noticed much of a difference. Can anyone recommend another brand? Has anyone used Revitalash? It looks very expensive (if in fact you can get hold of it - seems to be out of stock everywhere!), but I'd happily pay if it worked!

Revitalash worked wonders for me, to the point where they looked false if I overdid with mascara, without mascara they looked more pedestrian because they're annoyingly fair and insipid.

I bought the big size, which was initially more expensive, obviously but it lasted me a full year. Have you tried QVC? They often have deals or monthly payment plans which take the sting out a bit.

I've read that products like Revitalash used to work on the basis of an ingredient (which was used to treat glaucoma) which has now been removed.

I only bought mine less than 18 months ago and it worked, doubt they've changed the entire formula within that time, rendering the product useless.

Rapidlash was forced to remove an ingredient too. I first used it 7 years ago after chemo and it was amazing. I tried it again a couple of years ago and it did nothing. A few people on here said the same thing. I tried the Boots lash serum but that was rubbish.

I've used revitalash for a few years and the last tube I got from QVC Did nothing for my lashes. I've stopped using it now and am trying Mavala Double lash serum (only a tenner and is working well so far)

It is so frustrating! Just spent loads of dosh on various mascaras at Boots that all claim (with photographic evidence on the pack!) to produce longer looking lashes. Needless to say they dont' produce amazing results! GAh! I just want normal lady lashes, not horrible old man stumpy ones! Help!

I've looked into reviews of revitalash and keep coming across talk about the special ingredient being taken out. Would happily pay £60 for a tube if I knew it was going to be the old formula and was going to work, but obviously I don't want to fork out all that cash for something that will make no difference at all! Sad

I lost most of my lashes after badly applied lash extensionsSad
I've not found anything that works but I've been applying castor oil every morning & night for the last month which seems to have helped.

I used the revitalash eyebrow serum the other month - it definitely worked, but I stopped using it because it must have rubbed off onto my cheeks or something because I started getting dark hairy patches! The effects wore off pretty quickly so you do have to be prepared to keep using it, but it does have a dramatic effect.

That must be what Marian Keyes was talking about. She had something from America which was given to people who had had chemotherapy.

Try castor oil. I've been using it for about three months and it has definately made a difference to my lashes which had got a lot sparser as I got older.

Rapid lash is doing something for me, it's quite subtle but my lashes are longer and lusher than three weeks ago. By Terry Terribly mascara is a brilliant lash grower too.

A few years back lilash transformed my lashes- been using revitalash for 2 months no and no visible difference with or without mascara.

Safely as others have said, I think the magic ingredient has been removed.

I can't believe this!

A couple of years ago I had brilliant success with rapidlash. I was actually going to order some more today to give it another go for the summer until I saw this thread.

So it's now a waste of money then? Is there anything that still works like thus used to? I'm gutted!

The active ingredient that makes the lashes grow is bimatoprost which is a medication used to treat glaucoma. The makers of bimatoprost (Allergan) have a cosmetic version called Latisse and you can get this on a private prescription (will be ££ I think). The glaucoma eye drops are called Lumigan and will also work as eyelash growth stimulator if you brush them along the lash line only. This is of course also a prescription only product in the Uk but probably available on one of those Canadian pharmacy websites if you really want to get your hands on some!

I heard about those glaucoma eye drops too but I didn't try them as the list of possible side effects were a bit scary!

I have used Latisse / lumigan. Discussed with optician in case there were any safety risks (none for me whatsoever).

Currently on a break as my eyelashes grow so long I had to start trimming them Confused Grin

If anyone has questions, feel free to ask away...

Apparently they can change the colour of your eyes! I have pale blue eyes so don't think I would risk it myself.

Green eyes are the colour mainly at risk. It's to do with the fact the active ingredient darkens existing pigmentation (as well as lengthening, thickening lashes too). So if it gets in your eye by mistake...it may potentially darken your iris pigment.

If your blue eyes have brown flecks then you're at (small) risk. I probably wouldn't risk it with blue eyes. Almost all green have brown flecks hence that being the main risk colour.

I'm fine...my eyes are dark brown to start with.

My mum used some with bimatoprost in and a few months after she started was diagnosed with a rare problem with the macular of her eye caused by changes in the vitreous fluid - she has needed 4 operations but they still couldn't save much of her sight, she has very little vision now. The two things may be unrelated but if they have removed this ingredient from serums I would be concerned about importing it to use.
