Coat for the coldest person on earth

That'd be me. Seriously, I am freezing all the time. Last year I got myself a Jack Wolfskin Iceguard which I absolutely love, but since I washed it, it's just not warm enough. I can't do down filled because I'm allergic to it. I am layering like an onion (today I had a silk t-shirt, a denim shirt and a cashmere jumper under my coat, a silk velvet scarf and a pair of sheepskin gloves on top of it, and I was still cold) but it's not working. I have found the Patagonia Women's Vosque 3-in-1 Parka which is over the top end of my budget, but if it means I'm not constantly cold, I'd find the money. Does anyone know if it will actually keep me warm?!? Any other suggestions would be gratefully received.

Ooh ooh this I know! I don't have blood, its actually ice which is fucking inexcusable given that I am a Northerner The only way forward are Lands End down parkas with the furry hoods. Like wearing a winter tog duvet outside. But size down and buy in the sale. If you want a posh work coat Ness are great and v well made but ladies in Edinburgh who know a thing or two about chilly ....

I have a north face filled with prima loft which works very well as an alternative to down, it is really cosy and works better with only a thin layer under it. However, it is short and so my legs freeze! I also have an insulated long line coat by merrell and it is so warm and comes to my knees (also not down filled). I would take a look at the merrell elenwood.

To be really honest, if you know that an Iceguard does the job, why not bite the bullet and buy another one? I'd say it is on sale but seems to be sold out. Or go for the Snow Flurry which is a bit more expensive but looks even warmer?

Looks as if you're supposed to be able to wash them, so possibly worth attempting to get your money back from the shop if you washed it according to instructions?

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look at them all! I had forgotten about the Merell ellenwood - it was the other coat in the running before I got the iceguard last year.

I never thought about complaining about it tbh. I've worn it more than 6 month of the last year, so I feel like live got good value out of it. I might send them an email though, always worth asking about it.

Oh my god, DH was suggesting that I'd have to make a pouch for a hot waterbottle, but that Tog24 jacket could be the solution! My arse though, while well padded, would definitely feel left out of the heat extravaganza...

I find the uniqlo heat tech thermals really good, i wear them under normal clothes and then 2 down filled jackets, a thin and a thick one, which I know you can't do. I used to have permanently frozen feet from October til April until.found some merino wool Costco hiking boots and now I wear them every day, all year round and my feet are never cold, amazing things. Actually I think I have pretty much cracked it, after years of frozen commuting.

I have some uniqlo heat tech tdhirtd but tbh, I'm a bit disappointed in them. I ordered some heat tech fleeces so I'll see how they are when they arrive.

Unfortunately most of the really warm coats are down filled, and if I was to get one it means choosing between being warm or breathing.

My feet are another conundrum...they are either freezing or boiling. I've ordered some lamb wool fleece insoles which will hopefully help me balance that out.

I think I just need to fly south for the winter and be done with it.

Has anyone said Didrikson yet?

I bought this coat at JCrew and it's good as gold, a bit pricey but will probably be on sale soon.

I bought the Land's End chalet coat early in the winter and can vouch for it's warmth, but returned it immediately because I thought it was horribly unflattering.

I second Didrikson, wore mine today zipped up over a thinnish sweatshirt and topped off with a bobble hat...I was almost sweating after 30 mins!

I have that Patagonia coat OP, I've only just started wearing it this year as it's been too mild until now. I've found it lovely and warm, and I'm someone who complains about the cold a lot . I got it in the sale last year although it was still pricey enough to make me wince a bit when buying, but I don't regret it now.

It is really flattering and the insulation is thin so doesn't look as bulky as most winter coats. It's very slim fitting though which can feel a bit claustrophobic sometimes, and the neck is quite high. And there are no upper handwarmer pockets.

I have a Didrikson and I think both are equally warm. The Patagonia is a bit smarter though, and probably more versatile as I'll be able to zip out the insulation when it gets warmer.

Canada Goose hands down!!

Get a sheepskin. I feel the cold and recently got a second hand sheepskin and it's the warmest I've ever been.

Another vote for Canada Goose. I have Raynauds and this makes winter bearable.

Be careful with Canada Goose though. I have an Expedition and it has to be -25 before I can wear it otherwise I get too hot.
