Has anyone ever actually tamed frizzy hair?

I'm sick of never quite looking "groomed" or "expensive" because of my frizz prone hair. It only ever looks good after a visit to the hairdresser, although as I get older even thats not always true - I find the dead straight style they usually give me a bit severe any more. I have a shoulder length bob.

So are there any products out there that take the frizz away? And, is there any style I should be asking my hairdresser for to soften the look a bit? The last couple of times I got my hair trimmed they used that razor scissors thingy to cut into the ends of my hair and it really made it more frizzy. I know why they did it though, my hair is very fine but theres loads of it. Left all one length it becomes a sort of triangle shape, think inverted dairylea triangle, most unflattering.

I love my ghd's but I try to not over use them and always use a heat protecting spray.

Any help would be gratefully received - I'd love to start the year off feeling a bit better about my appearance. I know thats shallow but my confidence is hugely affected by what I see in the mirror each day. TIA.

It sounds as if your hair is very similar to mine.

I find a blunt cut is best for my fine frizzy hair and I only use hair straighteners on special occasions to avoid damage.

The best hair product I ever found is Clynol Care Remedy Leave-in Instant Keratin Filler. It's only £9.95 and you can buy it from Amazon. It's a great alternative to Moroccan oil as it doesn't have silicones in it. I spray it from mid length to the ends before blow drying and it miraculously gets rid of all the frizz! I also carry John Frieda touch up creme around in my bag to touch up any frizzy ends during the day.

I haven't found a way to avoid it completely. But I do smooth Bumble and Bumble Brilliantine through the top layers when completely dry and that helps massively. My hair is very thick though so am not sure if it would work as well with fine hair.

I'm a huge, huge fan of the Babyliss Big Hair - honestly, it has absolutely transformed my frizzy hair. It doesn't make your hair 'big', it just smooths it, and if I want it really straight as opposed to swishy I use the GHDs on it too. I've also discovered cold pressed coconut oil - heat defence spray plus a tiny amount of oil and the BBH, et voila!

There's a really good Facebook group called Curly girls with lots of ways to tame it! :)

Aside from that i just use straighteners!

I have thick frizzy hair and have only just learnt to groom it properly. I have it long and layered but I wash at nights and style with babyliss big hair and a dab of hair oil. I have silk pillowcases which do help a little.

You need a hairdresser that understands curls - I have fine curly hair - very fine but lots of it and I want to wear it curly. So I have it cut in blunt layers. As soon as the razor cut is out or they start snipping into it, it goes mad for frizz.

After that you basically can go in two directions - silicones or not. Am sure someone else will tell you about Curly Girl method which is silicone free - I've never done this but loads of people swear by it.

Personally, I'm with the silicones, they work for me. I use SLS free shampoo (which is part of Curly Girl, I think). Other shampoos just strip my hair and make it more frizzy. If I can find something for fine hair I'll use it, occasionally I'll use Fibrology but not all the time as it builds up and then a hair oil (which whatever they say they are are always mainly silicone) or John Frieda Frizz Eaze.

Then I either dry my hair with diffuser, or let it dry naturally running my fingers through it to shake it up a bit.

Is your hair actually curly - or kinky and wavy with frizz?

Watching with interest as my hair is the same. I have a BBH, but the top of my hair looks frizzy as the BBH doesn't get in close enough when I use it although the bottom is nice and swishy.

My mum bought me the John friieda 3 day straight for Xmas. Will let you know how that goes.

Thanks all, great answers. My hair is wavy rather than curly and I reckon that if I could somehow tame it, it would be quite nice wavy. Sometimes I dont dry it at all, just leave it and then use the ghds. I always think it looks ok as it dries but family have been known to call me "windswept and interesting" so I know that I'm deluded.

I suspect you have similar hair to me. My hairdresser characterised it as 'unruly waves/curls' which sounded generous but I think really means a mess.

I spent years doing the blow drying it straight thing and it will go dead straight. If you grow it too long the weight of it on the fine hait turns it into helmet hair. Leave it alone sometimes it looks amazing, mainly it looks a windswept mess. Any of that sounds familiar?

Eventually I decided to go with what my hair naturally wanted to do which was wave and got a hairdresser who could cut it that way. It's been happiness and low maintenance ever since.

Do you touch your hair much, OP? I have fine wavy hair and the only way is stays in defined waves is to never touch it once it's dry. Definitely don't rake your fingers through it.

I presume you use a product ? You can't expect frizzy hair to take without any help . My hair is curly with some ringlets , very thick . Left to its own devices it would be a mass of frizz . I use mousse on damp hair and let it dry naturally with a lot of scrunching upside down as it dries . I also do a freezing cold rinse at the end of my shower . I do this with my head forwards as I can't tolerate the cold on my body. Trying different shampoos helps and not too much conditioner too.

I have frizzy, fine, curly hair.

If I want to let it dry curly the best thing I've discovered is Boots punk curl creme.

Day to day I prefer it straight though and the Babyliss big hair has changed my life.

I gave in and got a Brazilian express. Was supposed to just be for Christmas but has changed my life!

Kebelo treatment worked for me.

I would love to have the Kebelo treatment but I'm worried that it might damage my hair in the long run.

How many times have you had it done and has it damaged your hair?

My hair is super fine so I can't take any risks.

Nano-keratin treatment has transformed my hair and my life! No more bad hair days ever. It doesn't straighten hair so I can leave it to air dry and I have lovely soft manageable waves. Or I can blow dry it in 10 minutes and I have lovely shiny sleek hair for days, regardless of the weather. For the first time in my life (I'm 52) I have hair I'm proud of.

I've only ever had it done once. I have thick wavy hair that goes frizzy in humidity. Has not damaged my hair. It also dries much more quickly with the hairdryer.

It worked a treat. It doesn't straighten the hair, just takes away the frizz. However, when it gets very humid, and my head and hair are all sweaty, it doesn't work so well. But that doesn't happen very often. I will have another one done next year. Don't need it in the winter.

Had the Brazilian a few times. Worked really well, but I don't suit poker straight hair.

Have a chat with the hairdresser about your hair type if you are worried.

The Brazilian express didn't give me poker straight hair just manageable with no frizz

I have had the Kebelo treatment 6 times over the last 3 years. It has worked brilliantly for my fine and frizzy hair, and has not harmed the condition of my hair at all.

After some research I am particularly interested in the Kebolo treatment as apparently it's formaldehyde free!

Not sure about Brazillian Express or Nano-keretin so I will google those as well.

I love keratin treatments and I've had a fair few over the years!

Word of advice - you get what you pay for ! If it's cheap it'll mean untrained people using cheap product.

You also need to invest in the correct shampoos, there's no point spending that money and washing it in crap.

I've had Kerastraight, Nano Keratin and currently using kerasilk which is formaldehyde free and you can choose if you want to have frizz free curls or a smoother look.
