Has anyone ever actually tamed frizzy hair?

I'm sick of never quite looking "groomed" or "expensive" because of my frizz prone hair. It only ever looks good after a visit to the hairdresser, although as I get older even thats not always true - I find the dead straight style they usually give me a bit severe any more. I have a shoulder length bob.

So are there any products out there that take the frizz away? And, is there any style I should be asking my hairdresser for to soften the look a bit? The last couple of times I got my hair trimmed they used that razor scissors thingy to cut into the ends of my hair and it really made it more frizzy. I know why they did it though, my hair is very fine but theres loads of it. Left all one length it becomes a sort of triangle shape, think inverted dairylea triangle, most unflattering.

I love my ghd's but I try to not over use them and always use a heat protecting spray.

Any help would be gratefully received - I'd love to start the year off feeling a bit better about my appearance. I know thats shallow but my confidence is hugely affected by what I see in the mirror each day. TIA.

I have fine curly hair in a short layered bob and find that most anti-frizz products are too heavy and make my hair look lank. My favourites are Boots pink curl creme or Aveda Be Curly - just tiny amounts, though.

A good cut makes all the difference.

Colourmylife how much do you
Pay for the nano kerotin treatment. My friends sister who is a hairdresser had just started doing them. The before and after shots look brill so I'm very tempted. Just wondering how much it is as she's not got back to me with a price yet.

Becareful with before and after shots.

Before is ok, but the treatment is ironed in 10 times then they take the pic! Well of course it'll look good! You want to see what I'll be like after 3 days.

That's they only downside with the nano keratin is the 3 day wait, which you don't get with other products.

I paid about £150 for my long hair. I would be wary about paying below £90

Glad I found this thread, was going to book a Kebelo treatment this week! Ive had it done a while ago and it certainly helped, cuts down the frizz etc. It costs £100 including a cut, considering a cut and blow dry costs me nearly £40 i think it's worth it. You also get the shampoo and conditioner to use which is quite pricey to purchase separately. I still had to straighten my hair if I wanted it poker straight but I could blast with a hair drier instead of getting arm ache!

I paid £100 at Toni and Guy. They said it would last for 12 weeks. I had it done 10 weeks ago and it is still great. I have my next appointment booked already. I love it!

Yes, the three day wait before you can wash your hair is difficult. I used dry shampoo on day three but it looked absolutely poker straight which is not a good god look on me. I didn't realise that the other methods don't have that wait.

Colourmylife1 · 03/01/2016 22:05

Sorry 'not a good look', not 'not a good god look'!

Your hair sounds like mine, OP. The only thing that has ever worked for me is ditching all heat completely. After washing and conditioning I squeeze out excess water then wrap it into a microfibre turban (you can get them from pound shops but the beat ones are a pound from Savers, if you live near one). I leave it in the turban for as long as possible before combing it through - an hour or two ideally. It does mean I can only wash it in the evening but it's totally worth it. I'm currently growing it - it's just past my shoulders and blunt cut, layers just cause it to explode with frizz. Occasionally I'll use a a hair oil on it if it's feeling a bit dry, usually in the summer. But really, the best thing I ever did was start using the microfibre turbans! Can't recommend them enough.

This newer one I had done last time gets washed out in the salon. No 3 day wait. And it lasts 5 months.

Colourmylife1 · 04/01/2016 10:03

Wow, Imaginative that sounds great. Does it have a brand name?

unimaginativename13 · 04/01/2016 10:17

Kerasilk? I think that's the right spelling

I used Brazilian kit from Amazon from lots of reviews on here and it was fantastic. I have very thick bush head hair. Will look fab after GHD's but by the time have walked DC to school and back look like I've put my finger in electric socket! It did really damage my hair though, first one was amazing. Did it when dc3 was newborn such a difference when needing to be up and out for school/preschool for other two with dc3 in the pram. Even my hairdresser noticed big difference. Used it 3 times in about 18 months. Had to plan the initial 3 day wait before washing around time off work though Grin

Will investigate the other treatment too thank you.

get it Wellastrate'd by a competent hairdresser. Make sure they put the stuff on, leave it, wash it out, dry, straighten, add the neutraliser, leave, wash, dry, straighten. Miss out the first straightening and it will fall out in a month (Yes you, expensive chain hairdresser...) do it properly and it lasts a year even on my fuzzball. After treatment don't wash for as long as possible, if you can go a week without getting it wet it will pay off.

I can now use a comb and five mins with the straighteners leaves me swishy (but not lank) until the next wash. I never bother with blow drying.

two strengths, if you have dye in your hair you can't use the stronger one that I have.
