Please help me find a boring (but nice) towelling dressing gown!

I just want a towelling dressing gown, so I can get out the bath and put it on and feel all cosy while I get dry. I do not want a fleecy one. I've had one of those and it feels all wrong when it gets wet, like being wrapped in soggy cotton wool.
I've googled and most of the search results are not towelling at all. I don't want white (they get grubby quickly). I don't want a unisex or one-size-fits-all-one. Or to pay luxury spa money. And I'm not an old lady either so if it could be somehow less than dowdy that would be a bonus. My last one was lilac and had a Little Miss character on it (I'm not 4 either, it was from La Senza), but that was bought many years ago and is tatty beyond use now.
I'm not well today and suddenly it feels really important to find one that I can snuggle up into. Please help!

I resorted to getting a unisex one from Ikea and shortening the sleeves/raising the belt on my sewing machine (about a 10 minute job). Do you know anyone who sews? If I was looking again I'd start with Dunelm they have a great choice of colours.

RaisingSteam · 27/12/2015 21:55

cheery

GinBunny · 27/12/2015 22:01

I'm no good with sewing, wish I was but have never gotten the hang of it. I'm also particularly short hence not wanting a unisex one.
I do love the birds of paradise one, that's gorgeous. But from what I have seen from extensive googling "supersoft" towelling does tend to mean fleecy. It's hard to see from the picture. I might message them. Thank you.

That is exactly what I've been looking for too!

Thank you Raising - I don't have a Dunelm Mill in my town, so I never think of them for this kind of thing.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 27/12/2015 22:15

I even looking for exactly this too - it needs to be long, cosy and towelling. So far I've found two possibles and have just ordered the House of Fraser one: as it looked like such a bargain:

Maybe try the White Company? I have a lovely towelling robe from there.

Abzs · 27/12/2015 22:20

Second vote for White Company.

RaisingSteam · 27/12/2015 22:24

I just checked the fabric is 100% cotton and not microfibre/polyester. I am totally with you on this.

SwedishEdith · 27/12/2015 22:25

Second Dunelm. And found some on Amazon that are 100% cotton here

Cannot understand why anyone would want a polyester fleecy bathrobe.

CMOTDibbler · 27/12/2015 22:25

Loads of them new on ebay

RaisingSteam · 27/12/2015 22:27

Raspberry!

Quite often you find them made by the same manufacturers as towels like Christy.

PurpleWithaMysteryBun · 27/12/2015 22:34

I caved about 18months ago and bought one from Cath kidston. I would recommend it, if they still make them.

LagoDiComo · 27/12/2015 22:57

I got this one, which is proper towelling and a flattering fit. I find some of them, including Dunelm ones, are very bulky and oversized

Was just about to start this very thread! It's my birthday soon, and my current bathrobe is about 20 years old and threadbare. I also need 100% cotton, none of this clammy fleece rubbish.

I did see some lovely stripy Christy ones in HoF but I'm liking the two recommended by TheGirlOnTheLanding.

FindingNormal · 28/12/2015 00:51

I've got the bits of paradise one in raisibg's link. Happy to confirm its all towelling and completely lovely. Mine came in s gorgeous box too if packaging sways you!

FindingNormal · 28/12/2015 00:52

Sorry breastfeeding my 7mo so typing one handed but you catch my drift no?

cathyandclaire · 28/12/2015 10:16

My lovely DDs got me a White Company one for Christmas. It's grey towelling but vair, vair soft like fleece and doesn't go weird and claggy when wet. I may never take it off again Grin

GinBunny · 28/12/2015 13:20

Thank you all! I loved the Christy ones but out of stock in my size. Finding - it's a done deal!

I saw some lovely ones in the bathroom section of John Lewis today for about £20

BumWad · 28/12/2015 13:23

Just seen it half price on Amara website they only have large in stock. It's luxurious but towelling. I like the print too

trixymalixy · 28/12/2015 13:25

This has made my mind up what I want to spend my vouchers on. Im hoping I can find the house of Fraser one I store as it's exactly what I'm looking for. Has to be towelling, I can't stand the fleecy bathrobes.

BagelSuffragette · 28/12/2015 13:33

Bloody marvellous! I've been wanting a new one for ages, hate the idea if those fleece ones, what's the point when you need something that absorbs water?

I used to have a White Company one, but found it went very "thready" pretty quickly. Still wore it for ages but it didn't look very good.

I've just ordered the John Lewis one! Thanks very much. Flowers

Wigeon · 28/12/2015 14:07

Dunelm Mill fluffy 100% Egyptian cotton robe in silver ordered - thank you OP for starting the thread!

GinBunny · 28/12/2015 14:24

Damn the Birds of Paradise one is out of stock in my size.
Have found this one at House of Fraser: not towelling but not fleecy either which might do.
Glad others are finding this post useful and that it's not just me that hates soggy fleece!
