budget makeup recommendations

Hi

I am and always have been a slave to high end make up.

I have been reading on another thread that Rimmel is really good.

Dd is just starting to get interested in make up and I would prefer not to start her on my high end habit. Because to be honest I am not 100% sure it's worth the money ( although I can't see me giving up my CT foundation anytime soon). Grin

Please could you share your recommendations for budget buys?
I have never had a kohl liner I have been impressed with so if anyone can recommend one that would be great.

One more thing, can anyone recommend some good beauty bloggers for me, on my thirties. Dds recommendations are all bit out for my liking.

Thank you

There is also a fab MUA lippy that everyone raves about on here....number 11 (it's a my lips but better shade!) The NYR chubby stick blush thingy is called Beautifying Blushable cream stick.

While you're in Superdrug, grab the Pure serum for about £3. It's brilliant and better than any high end serum I've used (and I've used a lot because I'm a sucker for adverts and nice boxes Blush)

How could I have forgotten the Pure serum? Fab stuff! And cruelty free too.

Then do you mean NYC? Agree that they are really good, I've used the Showtime mascara before and loved it. Their lipstick is great too.

Rimmel exaggerate wind up eye pencil is great ,
also Rimmel Dark Brown eyebrow pencil. Both staples in my make up that I purchase again and again .

MUA undress my skin highlighter is brilliant too
One of my favourite lipsticks is MUA Bare - gorgeous nude shade £1.

I used to only buy premium brands , my drawer was full of Nars / Benefit / MAC / YSL.

I have now totally converted to budget brands except for foundation ( Dior).

I think the variety of products within budget brands is so much better than 10-15 years ago .

I wold also recommend Poundlands Make Up Gallery range , the nail polish is fab , you do need three coats but it lasts chip free for ages.

Thanks Hopeful! Autograph have a 3 for 2 at the moment, I think, so I'll go and have a look this week.

YY to whoever recommended the Barry M kohl pencils. Would also second Makeup Revolution - their blusher (£1!) is really good.

I really like the new lippies Rimmel has brought out, they are called The Only 1.

The Soap & Glory limited edition Perfect 10 eye shadow palette is brilliant. It's £16 but last year's one has lasted me a year in almost daily use.

Hi can I just ask about concealer how do you know what shade suits you?
Great thread thanks

Concealer, I go by at least, same or as close as possible to shade as foundation. Maybe under the eyes go a little lighter.

this is what I am realising. I became hooked in my teens when I got my first job. The budget buys I bought were always a bit rubbish and/or bad matches.

I am guilty of assuming they haven't got any better.

I am going to raid super drug and boots today! Will update later! Grin

Re: the Chanel thing, it was apparently the Bourjois parent company who owned the Chanel production places.

Bourjois has always been fan-bloody-tastic. I used something called blanc de base in the 80s (am that old!) which was, I realise now, a prototype of primer/that white base stuff that Chanel etc do now at £££££££££££££££s) It was amazing.

I just assumed Chanel owned them rather than the other way round, simply because Chanel is high end. I've learned something new!

I am here...sorry was really busy with work then have been kickboxing all evening!

So I went to super drug. Dh tagged along which really cramped my style (we work together running our own business, which means whenever I go shopping he comes along 'for the trip' Angry)

Anyway I got a maybeelline mascara, a Rimmel kohl pencil and the scandalise in trespassing taupe .

Unfortunately in that super drug most of the other products had been opened and gaffes with. So I was but limited. But all thre cost me about £11.

Oh and I couldn't find the pure serum either Sad

All the scandalise had been ruined except the one I got, all the hols etc

So I am going to another store this week to get more bits.

I will update when I have done my face tomorrow.

Thank you all so much, you have all been amazing Thanks

Yuck, people can be so manky! I've seen people making up their faces at 'drugstore' counters using the testers. Bit grim really cos who knows where they've been...

Enjolrass · 23/11/2015 21:04

flip I know it's really grim. Happens at the one in Leeds as well. It's so annoying.

But I am excited to try what I did get! Grin

Oh also I have decided to try an actual lipstick, a proper colour.

I have only ever done a nude lip!

But all the colours got me excited

superdrug Mua have some lovely sets in just now decent quality and dirt cheap.

Ooh, what colour did you get? There are some lovely colours and formulas now.

I remember being a teen and lipsticks were all frosted pink (ugh) or heather shimmer (good old rimmel). Oh, I also had a Mary Quant eyeshadow set in orange and black!

Where was I? Oh yes.. I know what you mean about colours!

I didn't get one. I just decided that I am.

I need to do some research.

My natural hair colour is almost black and I have dark brown eyes. However my skin is really fair and my hair is coloured and a bright copper colour. Not sure which shade to go for.

As I always wear a fairly full on eye and neutral lip, I think I have to tone down the eye? Is that right?

If I'm wearing a bright colour on my lips I would usually tone down the eye make up. That's just how I like to do it though.

I've got auburn hair (natural colour is brown) and very pale skin which sounds quite similar to you, and as a guideline I find brick reds, corals and terracotta colours look good on me. Hope that helps.
