touche eclat - a touch disappointing?

Birdly · 10/12/2006 10:38

Have finally shelled out £22 for a YSL Touche Eclat after years of being brainwashed by glossy mags about how good it is at concealing under-eye shadows.
It was an emergency purchase after 2 weeks of looking after poorly, non-sleeping children, so you can imagine how much my tired eyes need a bit of a lift!
Anyway, the horrible truth is that I'm really disappointed with it. The result is no better than the much cheaper Boots No7 version, and the applicator is very poor. The make-up spills out of one side, rather than coming out of the tip of the brush, and it dries up on the brush very quickly.
Looks like my panda eyes are here to stay and I'm daft enough to have paid over the odds for the name and shiny packaging. Humph!!!

BrandyTutter · 10/12/2006 13:25

always preferred the rimmel one meself

but am currently using a chanel one which is very lovely, just because i felt like splurging on make-up recently

GodRestYeMerryNORTHERNERs · 10/12/2006 13:27

I love touche eclat, but some people do find it a bit chalky, and you only need a tiny amount. TRy mixing it with a bit of your regular foundation. and put in on outside corner of ecah eye also.

WanderingTroll · 10/12/2006 13:27

Click the end a few times, then brush it onto the back of your hand to smear it all over the brush (pretend you are gemma kidd)

Splodge it under your eyes, then dab it in with your fingertips.

If you are me, you will also poke yourself sharply in the eye and your vision will go all bleary for an hour, resulting in a soft focus effect in the mirror and you will consider yourself to look gorge.

Er... maybe that's how it's meant to work...

WonderCod · 10/12/2006 13:27

GodRestYeMerryNORTHERNERs · 10/12/2006 13:36

Much fear yes!!! He was in his 50's and a bit of a nerd, don't know why he said no, wa sprobably best offer he'd had all year

Just got back from ASDA and I drove on my own, feel like a proper grown up now!!!

Nervous at thought of motorways though tbh.

GodRestYeMerryNORTHERNERs · 10/12/2006 13:39

Will do first journey with dh I think, trip to my mum and Dads, only about 70 mins away.

Might do pass plus.

gingermonkey · 10/12/2006 19:56

The skin flash by dior is really, really good, comes in a few shades so you don't get that 'I've got touche eclat on' look! ps. I passed my driving test after 3 attempts and just as dd was starting school, god it's amazing! Motorways are easy peasy, it's driving through unfamilar towns that freaks me! Well done, you'll never be in now - say goodbye to mn!!!!

Birdly · 12/12/2006 14:08

Thanx for the tips, one and all. Maybe I'll buy one of each brand and see if that does the trick!!
Congrats on the driving test, MerryNortherner!

I bought it once and it started to smell funny soon after I got it...

fiiiivemadmarchhaaaares · 12/12/2006 14:19

Clarins is the bestest, with virgin vie one being good for a cheaper version.

meowmix · 12/12/2006 14:20

there's an estee lauder product that reduces dark shadows but isn't a concealer. Probably called something like "Black eye shadows reducer product" OR Guerlain's midnight secret range has a lovely thingy for this, again not concealer but makes you look like you slept the night before.

TE is useless if you aren't that slightly orangy pinky 'flesh' colour anyway

thebecster · 12/12/2006 14:20

I'm allergic to it too - swells up in red welts and makes me look like I've been punched in the eyes. Not an improvement. I've given up trying to hide my dark circles now, they're so bad and unless I wear blusher I look like I died in the night. Ugh. Maybe I'll try that Dior Skin Flash one...
