touche eclat - a touch disappointing?

Have finally shelled out £22 for a YSL Touche Eclat after years of being brainwashed by glossy mags about how good it is at concealing under-eye shadows.
It was an emergency purchase after 2 weeks of looking after poorly, non-sleeping children, so you can imagine how much my tired eyes need a bit of a lift!
Anyway, the horrible truth is that I'm really disappointed with it. The result is no better than the much cheaper Boots No7 version, and the applicator is very poor. The make-up spills out of one side, rather than coming out of the tip of the brush, and it dries up on the brush very quickly.
Looks like my panda eyes are here to stay and I'm daft enough to have paid over the odds for the name and shiny packaging. Humph!!!

I think I tried it years ago and it was ok

piglit · 12/12/2006 14:33

Have you tried Beauty Flash balm by Clarins? It is amazing. A bit pricey but well worth it. One tube lasts ages (I use it a lot) and makes a real difference to my complexion. It works equally well with and without makeup. Totally fab.

fairyjay · 12/12/2006 14:35

Honor Blackman - in her 70's (?) - uses it only for photoshoots!!! I need to use it every day. Does it help? Don't really know, but I feel a bit better.

The applicator is crap though!

fairyjay · 12/12/2006 14:36

I use Beauty Flash as well piglit - can you tell I'm getting desperate!

Tatties · 12/12/2006 15:03

I really liked Touche Eclat when I first tried it a few years ago, but I have gone off it. I wonder if they have changed the formulation? Birdly it sounds as yours is a bit dodgy, what with the make-up coming out of the side - I would try to get your money back.

I have just ordered some Bare Escentuals 'Well Rested' for my dark circles. I love their foundation so hope this will be good.

gingermonkey · 13/12/2006 19:15

oooh yes, piglit - beauty flash is a miracle!!! Tried that Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream, but found it really greasy, course I may have just put it on wrong??? But Beauty Flash balm, I think I would hide in the house full time without it - how can it make me look so bright eyed and bushy tailed when I am more knackered than ever????? I think it is fairy magic....

DimpledThighs · 13/12/2006 19:59

gingermonkey - I bought 8hr cream for daughters skinprob but didn't work and have lost instructions. What do you use it as moisturiser or under make-up? determined to get my £18 worth!

p.s. great thread - think will add beauty balm flasha nd no7 to my xmas list.

Honeymum · 13/12/2006 21:34

I just bought some Touche Eclat and I think it's fab. The Body Shop one is a bit orangey (used that as too tight previously to buy TE) Got my sister (new mum) some for xmas too. It's £15 on Cheapsmells.com if anyone is (still) interested....

chonky · 13/12/2006 21:38

Dior Skin Flash is superb, beats the pants of Touche Eclat. Boots No. 7 is the best budget option I've tried.
Love Beauty Flash Balm too - saved me today for the office after two nights in a row of being an absolute lush.

granarybeck · 13/12/2006 21:49

The clinique one is much cheaper and is good.

Lucy1977 · 13/12/2006 22:28

I love TE. I just click the end once then do tiny flecks in a criss-cross on my big dark bags then let it sink in. Just before going out I sometimes gently blot under my eye with the tiniest amount of powder on a brush and off I go. Couldn't live without TE.

Another vote for beautyflash balm and no matter now many people tell you that Superdrug's version is goodk it's NOT worth any money IMO.

Good eyelash curlers work wonders for tired faces as well. I recently bought rubie and millie's heated curlers and they are great! Make my lashes look a lot longer than the crimp version.

I'll vote for Clarins Beauty Flash Balm, too. That's one that really does live up to its glossy mag reputation!
Another goodie for livening up the skin is Origins' Never A Dull Moment. It's a gloopy scrub thingy and it leaves you as fresh-faced as is possible for an exhausted and rapidly ageing mummy!
Off to start a new mascara thread now....

Try Dior Skinflash, its much better plus comes in a choice of 3 shades.

Also, for proper good concealer to get rod of those bags, try benefit boi-ing industrial strength concealer. its actually amazing.

swalesie · 31/12/2006 11:07

I couldnt leave the house without it, i think its fantastic, but has anyone noticed it smells abit funny?

Honeymum · 01/01/2007 23:20

If it smells you need to wash the brush. It tells you how in the instructions.

My sister was thrilled to bits with it at Christmas by the way! (see earlier post).

surimum · 26/01/2007 16:05

ok just went to Boots and they lady has put this on, just waiting now to see if anyone at work tells me I'm looking great, then I may purchase on the way home....
