Anyone else think they actually look better without make-up?

Make up just doesn't suit me at all - especially as I've got older. I'm not sure if it's because I'm not ( & never was ) particularly good looking to start with.
Make up only seems to suit attractive women.
Anyone else feel they look better 'natural' ?

Not on your nelly!

hellsbellsmelons · 16/11/2015 14:03

I think I do.
I feel like a clown in make up and I only wear BB cream and mascara if I wear any at all.
Everyone thinks I look fine without make up.
I have olive(ish) skin and long dark eyelashes anyway.
And I really CBA!
I'm no spring chicken either!

FinallyHere · 16/11/2015 14:24

I have spent a lot of effort to make up self up so that it isnt obvious that is am wearing makeup.

I think anyone made up, so that you can see the makeup, unless they are taking part in a sci-fi movie, look better without the makeup.

catdoodles · 16/11/2015 17:10

I look fine without makeup now my skin is looking so good after taking good care of it the last few months, however I look so much better with make up on.

goodnessgraciousgoudaoriginal · 16/11/2015 17:44

I definitely look better with a very small amount of make up. A little bit of concealer (I have acne scars and my skin tone isn't very even), and eyebrow pencil. Without eyebrow pencil I just look like a patchy meringue to be frank, as my eyebrows are so pale.

I think a lot of it depends on what a person's skin is like. Someone with naturally clear, even skin probably looks just as good with or without make up.

I think most women look better with a small amount of make up, and hardly anyone looks good when they slap it on with a trowel.

Sparkletastic · 16/11/2015 17:48

Everyone looks better with some make up unless it is badly applied or the wrong products are used. IMO.

Rebeccaelizabethxo · 16/11/2015 17:55

I once got told I look like I don't have a face when not wearing makeup... So no. Haha.

MagicalHamSandwich · 16/11/2015 17:58

I definitely look better with some makeup - but I used to work in a role where a polished appearance was de rigeur and I'm hence quite good at applying it.

My no-makeup face ranges from fresh-faced and reasonably pretty on a good day to OMFG hide your kids and run on a bad one.

I do like myself with heavy makeup, it's a creative thing to me. The women in my life see it the same way and appreciate the artistic aspect of it - I've been told by several of the men that they prefer me without makeup (i.e. with just my everyday natural makeup which they don't recognize as such ...)

SwedeDreams · 16/11/2015 18:24

I would look better without makeup if I had dark eyebrows and lashes... And clear evenly toned skin... And lips that were darker than my skin. As it is makeup helps with all these things.

I think heavy makeup looks crap. Everyone else I know looks better with a bit of slap on.

doggydaft · 16/11/2015 18:46

I definitely look better with tinted moisturiser, blush, mascara and lipstick. That's my everyday routine.
I do wear less makeup now as I find it "sits" in my wrinkles and makes me look older (I'm 43)
Have almost given up on eyeshadow and liner as it looks awful but I do have dark eyes/lashes/brows so think I can get away with just mascara.
My skin is less even now than it was a few years ago and tinted moisturiser just camouflages this a bit.
When I don't have any make up on people ask me if I'm unwell/tired etc but I'm naturally very very pale.

internaldiscord · 16/11/2015 18:52

much as i would love to go without makeup i have seriously dark circles and freckles that look more like blemishes. but OP i have found that since i have started a proper skincare routine a la Caroline Hirons my usual makeup sits so much better on my skin, stays put all day and lets it 'breathe'. and i only use concealer, tinted moisturiser and powder to set it.

MamaLazarou · 16/11/2015 19:52

I'm not bad looking but I'd say I look about 15 times better with make up on. I've got a good face for make up Grin

maz100 · 16/11/2015 21:34

My eyes look like piss holes in the snow with no makeup??

herecomesthsun · 16/11/2015 21:48

I think dark eyelashes and brows make a big difference.

friedafilmer · 16/11/2015 21:50

herecomesthsun - I agree. When I started filling in my brows (I didn't until two years ago, when it became all the rage), I feel weird seeing myself without brows filled in. And I do have natural bushy brows! My everyday go-to look is baby powder + filled-in brows. It makes a lot of difference.

OldPossum · 16/11/2015 21:51

No - definitely better with!

museumum · 16/11/2015 21:52

The only thing that improves me is mascara. It makes my eyes bigger.

All bases look odd to me as they all cover my freckles to a greater or lesser degree. I have good skin and a nice level of colour.
I have dark blonde hair so I feel any darkening of my brows looks daft.
My lips look nice shiny, but their natural colour is fine.

So my "made up" face is a light dusting of powder, brown mascara and lip gloss in 'nude' :)

Radio13 · 16/11/2015 21:53

I look awful without tinted moisturizer and mascara but I try to make it look like I haven't got any on!

Eye liner seems to look silly on me now.

Needaninsight · 16/11/2015 21:59

I look better without make up. I'm lucky to have good skin finally and regular, rather boring, symmetrical features. Frankly, if I wear make up, it ages me about 10 years. I look 'pretty girl next door' without . With - I look somewhat drag queeny!

myrtleWilson · 16/11/2015 21:59

Never worn make up (am now 42) so I suspect my attempts now would resemble teenage applications-dating from a pre YouTube world- which would not be a good look! Would I look better, possibly but I'm ok with not...

DIYandEatCake · 17/11/2015 23:23

I have rosacea and a frequently-waking toddler and frankly look like a very tired, wrinkled tomato when I don't get time to put make-up on. I envy people with normal skin and well-defined features who look great with no make-up.
