Anyone else think they actually look better without make-up?

Make up just doesn't suit me at all - especially as I've got older. I'm not sure if it's because I'm not ( & never was ) particularly good looking to start with.
Make up only seems to suit attractive women.
Anyone else feel they look better 'natural' ?

I don't wear heavy makeup, but I do always wear red lipstick - my face looks naked without it. I think I look fine without makeup, but with it my face just looks better and my features more defined.

I'm not convinced that there's anyone who wouldn't look better with a little well applied make up.

I find that make-up enhances. So if I'm generally looking ok and I'm well, my skin is good and I'm getting enough sleep, make-up will enhance that and I definitely look better. However, if I'm looking and feeling rough, looking pale and big bags under my eyes, then make-up will enhance that too and makes me look far worse! Might be a psychological thing though!

Me, without makeup

Anyone else think they actually look better without make-up?

I need concealer and foundation to even my skin tone and some blusher to put back some colour and mascara to enhance my eyes, I look like a boiled egg otherwise Smile

I think most people look better with some makeup - doesn't need to be heavy, something natural works for most people.

I know what you mean OP.

Now I'm older, though I still have issues I want to cover with foundation, when I put it on my face it just exacerbates fine lines and pores. It fixes unevenness but creates another problem IYSWIM. And I've tried lots of different foundations too.

Also my eye make up just doesn't look as good any more. I do a cats eye flick but it's too harsh

I used to, when I was younger. Now I look better with a bit of cc cream and my brows filled in. However, I don't really bother with the cc cream everyday because I don't like putting products into my skin.

I wish I looked better without it. But I often have dark circles and pale skin as I sleep very badly.
I wear foundation, concealer, blusher & mascara everyday if I am at work or going out. Maybe eyeliner and a bit of lippy if going out out. I look awful without it .

Me, I have always thought I look better without makeup and on the rare occasions I wear more than tinted moisturiser, neutral lipstick and mascara I don't like how I look as much as I do without it.

Good job really, I am lazy!

me. Lipstick feels disgusting and looks ridiculous on me, never worn it beyond trying it out and saying 'ewww'. I have long eyelashes of my own. I have my own eyebrows so don't need to draw them on, they are also handy for when I get sweaty. I have colours and tones in my skin, looks far better than the ghastly mask of makeup (or photoshop)

I'm getting wrinkled as I age but slap won't fix that. I could stop smiling but I hope I'll never have reason to.

like everyone else, I look fine without makeup. I don't think I'd be classed as 'particularly beautiful', just an ordinary member of the species.

wear it if you want to.

I prefer how I feel without makeup.

My skin is very sensitive and would be blotchy and spotty if I was to wear most tinted moisturisers, foundations or powders. This means that if I started to wear makeup I would create a situation with my skin whereby I would have to wear it. Its better to not bother IME

I look awful without make up especially mascara, I have pale eye lashes. I look so bad that people ask me if I'm ok, not just people I know but random people. The teenager serving me in Sainsburys the other day asked me if I was ok and then told me he felt worried and did I need anyone to help me back to the car with the shopping.
All because I wasn't wearing any mascara.
I wish I could get away without wearing it sometimes, I tried dying them but it just wasn't the same. They are long and thin and need a bit of Max Factor 2000 calorie.... Which is FANTASTIC.

I also think that pretty much everyone looks better with some well applied make up. I certainly do - I look knackered and ill before I put my make up on. I also like really dramatic make up - it's a greay way to express yourself so I love to look at really over the top eyeliner etc. I find it fascinating.

I don't think I've ever known anyone over 20 to look better without makeup (even a tiny bit)

I look ill without make up. My eyes are too small and I'm so pale! I don't know any one who looks better without it.

I'm afraid my makeup routine has gone from a bit of mascara and some chap-stick in my 20s to a full scale restoration project in my 40s, just to get the same natural look! I do have bare-faced days, but they're when I'm not required to put on a public show.

Even toned skin, lack of dark circles and well defined brows are easier on the eye than what's lurking underneath.Grin I think it's also a mark of (self) respect if you show that you've bothered to scrub up for the occasion.

Wearing make up makes me feel like an actor. I move differently, I talk differently, it feels really false and as though I am wearing a mask. It makes me enormously self-conscious.

I am fully aware that people who wear make up every day probably feel self-conscious without it, same thing in reverse.

In reality, I can't be arsed, so there's very little chance of me getting used to it. Do I look better with it? No idea. I look different, for sure. I'm not too bothered what I look like though, so it wouldn't be important enough for me to consider taking up a new regime solely based on aesthetics. About twice a year I look in the mirror and gussy up for an event, but otherwise work, friends and family get me an naturel.

My niece does. Whenever I see her, I want to spit on a hanky and rub it all off. She's 20.

I have bright hair now so definitely need makeup to stop me looking washed out. I use cc cream, blush (in a light pink so not clowny), mascara, eyeliner (I usually do a subtle flick) and Lippy.

I'm naturally very fair so without a bit of help my features just disappear.

Floisme · 16/11/2015 08:37

What's a bit sad, I think, is when we use make up to try and look like everyone else. My niece does that; she's really distinctive looking: red wavy hair, very pale skin, a few freckles but she uses make up to rub out everything that's interesting.

I'm not against make up - I'm wearing it now - but it's boring when all young celebrities end up looking the same.

I think it's spot on to say it's what you get used to seeing and that's what defines whether someone looks 'better' or not with makeup.

I've only ever seen my hairdresser with makeup on until last time when she hadn't got any on because she'd had an allergic reaction and was giving her skin a break. It was a surprise to start with as she looked very different but actually it was nice to see the real her and she looked great.

I don't see putting makeup to make myself look more acceptable to other people as a mark of self respect. No one expects men to hide their actual faces behind makeup in everyday life and they seem to get on ok.

But I have no problem with people who do wear makeup and some looks - bleached blonde 50s starlet for example, only really work with the full makeup too.

It's all in the choice and the application. I hate to see older women (or very young ones) with a full face of heavy slap. This aversion gets more pronounced when their eyesight is clearly not up to the precise application required.

However, most people look better with something subtle and perfectly matched/blended to even out skin tone, some mascara for emphasis, eyebrows filled in and defined, a natural blusher and a light hand with a lip colour.

I just wear foundation, blusher and lippy. Without blusher I look like I've been dug up!
