chopping off all my hair...

Asteria36 · 02/11/2015 01:04

Has anyone else gone from long to super short? Please convince me that I'm not going to instantly regret it!
I have mostly had long hair, with the odd foray into bob territory, throughout my life. It is currently half-way down my back and I am crushingly bored with it. I have structural ishoos that make proper blow drying with a brush agony and because I have such thick long hair it takes hours to dry naturally. DH adores my long hair but I am beginning to feel like a scarecrow! I'm considering something drastic, like a long pixie cut (Meg Ryanish).
My only concern is that I don't want to look even remotely frumpy, or worse still - like I have gone for a practical woman-of-a-certain-age haircut (like my aunt the nun!). I'm rapidly approaching 40 and getting the "You look like your mum" fear. She has shoulder-length straw for hair and I am petrified of any more comparisons because she is a vile person

Ha ha yes double don't ??

I dislike short hair on girls and everyone who I know who got their hair chopped off hated it

Me included

Lottapianos · 03/11/2015 14:48

You dislike short hair on 'girls' Salene? I'm guessing that OP is over 18 so she should be fine

And loads of people on here have said that they adore their shorter hair, me included

Asteria36 · 03/11/2015 14:51

I'm nearly 40 so well out of "girl" territory! Countdown has begun - 25 mins till my hairdresser arrives! Should have name-changed for this so I could post a photo without outing my other posts!!

Salene I don't think you should make such a blanket statement about your dislike of short hair on girls or others opinions... And if you hated it great as I wasn't made keen on mine but that won't be true for all.

I've known few women who've had shorter cuts and actually liked them. Some have wanted to grow it back.

Salene · 03/11/2015 14:58

Females
And I can only comment on my own views and those I've heard from others

I dislike short hair on females , myself included. I think long hair looks nicer .

Hope that clears up any misunderstandings

OP you asked thoughts on chopping off your hair, that's my thoughts

Salene · 03/11/2015 14:59

Posted too soon

Sorry I can't convince you won't regret it as I'm my experience you will.

Germgirl · 03/11/2015 15:01

I've been thinking about chopping off my hair for a while now. It's about 6" below bra strap level but I wear it up 99.9% of the time. Not in swanky braids or up dos buy in a boring bun or clip.
I've recently lost 7 stone & while I'm still big I've mostly lost my big round face & double chin.
I just don't know what to do. I really don't want a bob, I think it'd annoy me & I'd wear it in a ponytail all the time.
I wish I had the confidence to just get it all lopped off but I'm dreading Denise Welch-ness.
Good luck op, hope it goes well.

Sometime you've just got to scratch your hair itch so you can stop the wondering and find out once and for all if a style suits you or not.

I dreamt of a blunt fringe. I thought I'd look like Alexa Chung. (high self esteem).

Got blunt fringe and realised immediately that I looked like a village idiot circa 1974.

But at least I knew!

TrionicLettuce · 03/11/2015 15:10

I went from hair long enough to sit on to an all over grade 1 (did it myself) in one go and I loved it.

I've done it several times since in between dyeing it bright colours and doing sidecuts. I've loved it every time and have had plenty of compliments about it.

Most recently was just over a year ago to get rid of all the dye and I'm now growing it all out. I'm aiming for the other extreme now, trying to grow it as long as possible before I get sick of it and buzz it all off again Grin

Asteria36 · 03/11/2015 18:26

I did it!!!! Lovely hairdresser cut it into a shaggy bob and whilst she was doing DH's hair I decided to go further! Have had v similar to the short dark-haired photo I put up further up thread. Absolutely LOVE it! Sent a photo to my friend and she says it has taken years off me and looks amazing (she is not the sort to sugar coat it). DH also loves it and he would happily tell me if I looked like shit!
I do have a bloody cold neck though Grin

Hurrah!!

Queenbean · 03/11/2015 18:57

So glad you went for it OP, and especially that you love it!

Where is the photo please?!

Asteria36 · 03/11/2015 19:02

Should have name changed as I really want to post a photo but have revealed far more than I'd want connecting (by some people) back to me. Bugger.
With regards to everyone who banged on about short hair being ageing - the unanimous vote has been that it takes years off me so ya boo shucks to you Wink

I've just gone from long bleached white hair to short brown. Complete shock to the system, I get loads of compliments but I am still trying to get used to it.

How cold is the neck area though...I need a mumsnet scarf Grin

Salene · 03/11/2015 20:09

Awww what after all the build up no photo..

Glad you like it OP and get yourself a cosy scarf

iwantgin · 03/11/2015 20:17

Great news op. Glad you are happy with it.

Germgirl · 04/11/2015 05:08

Excellent news. So glad you love it :)
One day I'll take the plunge

Lottapianos · 04/11/2015 08:06
