Help please, Looking for smart dress and a jacket not in polyester and isn't frumpy.

Tummy not strong point, need to lose a stone and am working on that. Getting really nervous as boyfriend just taken on new mega job. I know my casual wardrobe is not up to handling upcoming really smart events day and evening with trophy wives.

In my late 30's and getting g really stuck as I hate shopping. Asos seems to be all polyester as is Next.

Yes I was going to recommend the Red Cross shop. There's some charity shops on fulham road too, but I think the Red Cross is better.

If you are based in London, charity shops are a great idea. MIL has a few gems from the Oxfam in St Johns Wood. She always looks very stylish ( fits in with her very smart friends with a much tinier budget).

Like BabyBarrister I don't have time for manicures, gym visits or whatever else might need doing to look more like Crystal Carrington. I do get a day off in the week but I'd rather be in the garden or indulging my Updike habit. This is evident from looking at me. I would be really surprised to meet a 'trophy' woman in any professional context I've encountered, but I take people's word that they exist. I have met plenty of beautiful wives but they have tended to have rather more to them than that.

This thread reminds me a bit of the time MIL bought me special place mats for 'when you have the other partners and their wives to supper'.

Anyway, best of luck OP. If it all gets too much, just explain to the trophettes that you need to leave early to get to a TUC rally ;)

Have you thought of hiring a dress? There are companies out there who do this for such occasionsnot that I go to any lots of designers and styles. My DH is a Managing Director of a small company, and I really am not typical MD wife, think pastel coloured bleach crop. I always wear something more conservative than I would normally, but something I am comfortable in, so if you prefer trousers, go in trousers.
