Bought the dress - need your help with tights/shoes/bag accessories please!

Hi

I'm hopeless at knowing what goes with what. Thanks to all your great advice on dresses I finally bought this one for DH's christmas party.

Now I need your help ! Do you think flesh coloured tights/suspenders rather than barely black? What about necklace/bracelet - would that be overdoing it?

I've got black strappy sandals and a black bag - will these look ok?

Thanks

Lucy

like the dress - great colour

black accessories fine i think - if you were starting from scratch i'd suggest goldy-bronzey colours, but black will work

a bit of fake tan on your pins, or nude tights i'd say

doesn't look as though there's a lot of room for a necklace - narrow between the straps - but maybe a smallish shortish one? choker if you like them (but beware if you don't have swan-like neck - can be chubbifying)

northerner · 29/11/2006 17:56

Fab dress!!!

Black bag and shoes OK. No tights, or nude if you must. No necklace.

Fab silver bracelet I reckon. Not chain, like awrap around snake type.

Lucy1977 · 29/11/2006 18:18

You don't know how great you both have just made me feel telling me its a great dress! I was just buying another one (bright red!) then saw this and the assistant said it was just out in the store.

Right, well I reckon I could get new shoes/bag cos I'm taking a dress back to Coast tomorrow that DH bought when we were shopping at the weekend. Or do I spend the money on a salon fake tan? I'm not bad at doing a home St-Tropez but it'd be nice knowing I don't have to worry about any bits!

hmm bracelet sounds nice - any ideas where best to look for stuff like that?

Thanks

Lucy
p.s oh and I've found a really nice Teal coloured eye liner, do you think I should have smoky eyes or just liner/mascara? What colour lipstick/gloss?

JackieNo · 29/11/2006 18:20

Agree re necklace, but maybe some big/dangly earrings if you're into that sort of thing.

Lucy1977 · 29/11/2006 18:26

Jackie - earrings sound nice, not usually my thing but really want to break out of my comfort zone IYKWIM. I've seen loads about so might get some and try.

Thanks

love the dress - colour is fab

Gobbledigook · 29/11/2006 18:31

I would do eyes in colour, to 'match' dress and I would wear a nude-ish lipgloss.

I've got a gorgeous Lancome one - it's star bronze or something - I love it and it smells gorgeous.

I agree with others about keeping accessories simple because the dress has the bows and is floaty. Don't over do it.

Lucy1977 · 29/11/2006 18:32

Thanks HE.

Oh, also forgot to ask how to wear hair? My hair is shoulder length and has a nasty natural kink to it. I'm getting it trimmed the day of the party so could get the hairdresser to do it nicely.

Curls/straight - up/down?

Thanks

Lucy

think northerner's right about necklace - skip it and wear a nice cuff or wide bracelet

maybe something like this from accessorize or this (but i'd take the bow off

teal eyeliner would be great. how are you with eyeshadow? just a bit of sparkly gold/green (too much green?) eyeshadow over the lid would look good imo

Lucy1977 · 29/11/2006 18:35

Oh no! I just sent the link of the dress I bought today to my sister, she said she prefers the other one! (I sent her a link to that when I'd seen it).

What do you think? Here's the other dress here

Thanks!

drosophila · 29/11/2006 18:41

Like both but prefer the first colour.

donnie · 29/11/2006 18:42

the green one is far better. More chic, less tarty but as sexy.Stick with it.

Tutter · 29/11/2006 18:46

prefer the green

JackieNo · 29/11/2006 18:50

I prefer the green too. How about this bangle (I like the bow, but not sure you'll be comfortable with it) or this one (love that one).

JackieNo · 29/11/2006 18:54

Very chunky - love it. Are you a gold or silver person? Could wear either with this, I reckon.

Lucy1977 · 29/11/2006 19:16

Thanks ladies

Jackie I love the pale coloured bangle, I'm more a silver person really (suits skin tone better). I'm heading over to M&S tomorrow for those hold -it-all-in knickers!

Thanks for all your help, I'm really excited about going now!

Lucy1977 · 29/11/2006 19:20

sorry Jackie, I just re-read my reply and it might read that I think the bangle is gold. I love the pale bangle. I do think silver jewellery suits me better than gold so this will be perfect.

Thanks
Lucy

Sorry Tutter, must have cross posted.

I'm quite good with makeup (useless with clothes!) so feel comfy with eyeshadow and applying it. Wasn't sure if dark eyes would be too much. I've got blue eyes - will gold eyeshadow be ok? I do have some sparkly cream and sparkly gold (bit of a make up addict!)

Love the first bangle you posted. My friend has a similar one so will see if she can lend it!

Thanks
Lucy

i saw the pale m&s bangle that jackieno linked to, but it looks as though it's sold out in that colour i'm afraid

Whizzz · 29/11/2006 19:36

OO - nice dress !!
I have some great beads to match !
I have already made some earrings here I can rustle something up if you fancy anything !

Lucy1977 · 29/11/2006 21:58

Hi everyone

Whizz- thanks, I'll let you know if I decide to buy any other accessories.

Anyone got any inspiration for hair styles? What about this but without the fringe or just have it straight?

Oh no, just showed DH the dress and his response was "I prefer the other one" (which is the dress from Coast ... it's similar to this one but it's a pinky colour underneath with dark bits and sequins then black organza over the top (hard to imagine and not like the picture but the cut is the same)

Lucy1977 · 30/11/2006 09:41

Hi

I'm heading out to the shops at lunch time and thinking I might carry on the search for THE dress - or should I ignore DH and just wear the green one?

Thanks

Lucy

OP posts:
NomDePlume · 30/11/2006 09:45

I would wear my hair up if I was wearing the green dress.

NomDePlume · 30/11/2006 09:46

The green one is lovely BTW. Can't see the Coast one as it's a Flash site and so won't link to specific pages, grrrr.

Lucy1977 · 30/11/2006 09:49

NDP - Thanks for your reply, I need to go shopping anyway so will just try and stay focussed rather than waste time trying on hundreds more dresses!

The coast dress was strapless, a corset type top with the skirt bit going out to a flare.
