Hi

I'm hopeless at knowing what goes with what. Thanks to all your great advice on dresses I finally bought this one for DH's christmas party.

Now I need your help ! Do you think flesh coloured tights/suspenders rather than barely black? What about necklace/bracelet - would that be overdoing it?

I've got black strappy sandals and a black bag - will these look ok?

Thanks

Lucy

if it was me wearing that (fab) dress

hair curled in big soft curls

very long dangly earrings, shimmery gold colour

muted gold shoes and bag

large cocktail ring

nude tights (stockings as its xmas)

very glossy lipgloss

greeny eyeshadow and false eyelashes and mascara

big smile and Beautiful perfume

ihave this bag and i think the colour would go great with your dress

Jackstini · 30/11/2006 09:51

I think the teal one is gorgeous - might have to order it myself...!
Is the coast one pleated? Pleats always remind me too much of school and maternity wear (grovel and sorry if anyone loves it ) I would stick with the teal, such a stunning colour

nailpolish · 30/11/2006 09:51

lipgloss - nude colour but very glossy

have fun!

northerner · 30/11/2006 09:52

Lucy I much prefer the first green one. Ignore dh, he's a man what does he possible know?

nailpolish · 30/11/2006 09:52

i think opting for black shoes and bag is too 'safe'

nailpolish · 30/11/2006 09:57

the teal bling ring is gorgeous as its the carved flower

both would go great with the first dress you linked in OP which i think is the nicest dress

Lucy1977 · 30/11/2006 10:21

Right, I'm going to stand strong and go with the teal dress, but I've just noticed it's ripped under the bust so I hope and pray they have another in my size as the party is tomorrow night!

Thanks nailpolish - the teal ring is gorgeous!

I agree the black shoes and bag would be safe but I haven't seen any shoes and running out of time!

Does anyone know how to do ringlets with GHD straightners? I'd love to try tonight to decide how to get the hairdresser to style it tomorrow

Thanks everyone

nailpolish · 30/11/2006 10:28

to do curls with straighteners, dont wrap hair around

as you pull the straightener down your hair twist it with your hands

spray with hairspray and DONT TOUCH IT TIL ITS GONE COLD!

(you know how your hair is hot after being in the straightener?!)

then just kind of fluff up - dont pull or run your fingers through

the secret is hairspray - Elnett is the best

result SHOULD be (ideally) like Maria on corrie - hers is done with straighteners

NomDePlume · 30/11/2006 10:41

Ellnette is bloody expensive though, isn't it ?!

Hi

Thanks for the description NP - I know exactly what you mean. I tried this way the other day but my hair just had a bit of a turn up at the end, I don't think I was letting enough heat get to the hair first. I didn't have Elnet but can guess the hairdresser will use a good one?
I'm just going to a local hairdresser to get a trim and blow dry, I worry that the curls will be naff and I'll look like worsel gummage!

Had a good shopping trip, got a different pair of black sandals (hardly anything to them), a gorgeous jewel bracelent and lovely dangly earrings. Oh and Gobbledigook, I treated myself to that Lancome lipgloss, this one is sparkly gold/bronze, it smells fabulous doesn't it!

Thanks everyone for all your help, I really feel much more confident in my outfit now.

you will look lovely - the dress is beautiful.

I must say I liked nailpolishes idea of nude tights, gold shoes and gold bag - love it love it, but it my kind of style - maybe not yours.

Hope you have a wonderful time.

Lucy1977 · 30/11/2006 22:57

DP - I also love NP's shoes and bag advice but for me it's wayyy out of my comfort zone. I don't usually wear dresses or heels (bit of a Tomboy with makeup!). I also lack confidence and that's when my body language gets all humped over and slouchy shoulders and being 5ft 7 then heels on I feel as if I'm a walking lighthouse with a beacon!

I feel really good in the dress though so I know I'll be wearing it lots. Perhaps I'll invest in the gold shoes and bag for next time.

Oh bu*ger, just showed DH the dress again (now I've got faketan on) and it's got the security tag on it! (I exchanged it today because the original one was torn by the bust). Aggghh will have to fit the shops in again tomorrow ! Does anyone know if I HAVE to go back to Warehouse to get the tag removed or will any clothes shop be able to do it? The assistant was distracted by DD (9 months) keep offering her a rice cake!

Hi everyone

Just wanted to say thanks for all your help, I felt a million dollars last night and received some lovely comments from people about my dress.

Now I have another question! The 1st green dress, bought from a warehouse store, had a wee rip in it and I exchanged it for another one in Debenhams (the two stores close to me didn't have my size). The lady said now it could only be an exchange because they are a concession and not a store. the 2nd green dress felt tighter than 1st one and the security tag was on so I went back to concession within Debenhams where they took the tag off and I bought the next size up as well because of how tight the one I had was.
I decided to keep and wear the larger size so now I have to take the other green dress back. However, will they insist I just get vouchers for the dress? I'll be annoyed if this is the case because at the end of the day I have bought and kept one dress from them.

Does anyone know?

Thanks
Lucy

Glad it all went well after all the hassle with the security tag. Afraid I don't know what the answer will be though. Sorry.

DimpledThighs · 03/12/2006 10:20

Glad you had a good time!

I am sure that you should get a refund - esp. as the first dress was faulty. You need one of those clever laywer types to comment - but in my experience if you look like you are going to kick up a fuss you get your money back!

What would Madonna do? She wouldn't stand for it!

Lucy1977 · 05/12/2006 16:43

DT - well all though I did originally buy a faulty dress they did exchange it for a new dress (which then had the tag left on and seemed smaller than the same size that I had exchanged it for).

Any way - good news! I was fully expecting the lady to say that had I returned the smaller size I could have a refund on the larger size (as they were separate receipts and smaller one clearly shows it was already an exchange) BUT the salesgirl remembered me from Friday and was so busy cooing over DD (9 months) in her fleece sling that she said "here's your cash refund" .

so that's good, I paid with my credit card and thought I'd get a hassle taking it back and came away with lots of smiles from DD AND cash in my hand!

Thanks again

Lucy
