Once you hit 40 does it all of a sudden become SO difficult to find the perfect foundation?

Since reaching the big 40 I've found that finding my perfect, go to everyday foundation is not as easy to come by anymore. Over the years I have tried many and can honestly say that the only foundation I've ever bought twice is MAC face n body.

I'm looking for something that makes my skin look glowing, not greasy and shiny. One that doesn't cake into the lines and glides on beautifully. One that will last all day and that people will say that I look well. I also need a powder to, one that isn't carry.

I had a look whilst out shopping today and was almost left screaming by the end of it. Which one, which texture, which powder to go with it.

I was quite taken by Chanel vita lumiere and their healthy glow sheer powder, I only tried it on my hand but it seemed light with a good coverage.

Has anymore tried this is?
Can anyone recommend any?

I am exactly the same.
I used Double Wear for years but it was ageing me nd too heavy.
I tried Clarins, Clinique, YSL, Bourjous Healthy Mix , etc etc.
Read good reviews of Chanel Vitalumiere and have been using for a few weeks with good results.
I've got the Vitalumiere Aqua which is supposed to be better for oily skin.
Lovely finish, I still get shiny after a while but use blotting papers.

I'm obsessed with Guerlain Lengerie de Peau. Its very forgiving for odlder skins, isn't too thick and isn't too shiny.

On the budget end you can't beat Rimmel Lasting Finish. Its longlasting but not matte like Double Wear. Its more moisturising so more flattering.

I feel your pain OP! I've never had great skin (greasy, oily, hormone related spot outbreaks). I've been wearing Boots No7 Stay Perfect but it was sitting in my pores and wrinkles and just didn't seem to be suiting my skin as well as it used to so thought I'd have a change.

Having read good reports I invested in some Estée Lauder Double Wear, thought it looked pretty good when the sales lady put it on, tried it at home the next day and it looked ok. Merrily went to work with it on yesterday and oh dear god, went to the loo and I looked like I was wearing a mask and / or dressed up for some kind of a show with a painted face!

Not entirely sure what I did wrong??! I did put some loose powder over the top to stop the shine but was told that would be ok.

Spent this morning squeezing the last drops out of my No7 bottle!

Might give the Chanel one a try as recommended by Georgina.

Same here! This summer I've been using M&S Autograph long lasting foundation. It's not thick and doesn't settle in lines. However, the shades are really limited and it will be too dark for me in winter. I've got samples of the Face Atelier foundation which is ticking all the boxes except it's not lasting too well on my oily (in summer) skin. It might be ok in winter though.
Powder wise I can recommend Cornsilk. It has a dewy/satin finish and is virtually invisible.

Annarose does the Rimmel one cope with oily skin?

I've been using Chanel Vitaluminere for +10 years now - it's brilliant! The colour match is great for me, which is the most important aspect, but it's light and gives decent coverage.

I'm 42 and have two that I use most regularly: Charlotte Tilbury if I want just a sheer finish or maybelline superstay better skin! I was amazed when I first bought the maybelline, but there you go! I too have tried everything from Vitalumiere to Armani in my hunt (have a box under the bed full of foundations, sigh).

I too have oily skin btw - I use blotting papers from eBay.

I recently bought Bare Minerals Bare Skin but came up in spots...phoned them up and they are refunding me.
Back to the drawing board.
I used to like Channel Vitalumiare.

I have trouble with this too OP. I now use Clarins BB cream with their powder over the top. I seems to work well for me.

I like Lancome Teint Miracle. Definitely glowy. I recently bought YSL Touché one but I don't like it nearly as much. My skin looks really lovely with the Lancome one.

I use YSL Fusion Ink on my T-zone , then YSL Touche Éclat on my cheeks . Works for me!
If I need a bit of powder on hot days, I use the Tesco BD (Barbara Daly) powder foundation on top, just a tiny amount.

Same here too. Mac have just got a new foundation out called studio Waterweight. Claims to sort out fine lines and pores. Have just blindly ordered some in desperation!

LimeMoon I'm not oily-oily but am combo - oily in the middle, a bit dehydrated everywhere else. I work 12 hour (sweaty) shifts in it and have no problems. Its medium-full coverage. (There's a light version for lighter coverage which promises to last just as long , btw)

That said, Everyones different. But at least you're not breaking the bank to find out!

Garnier BB cream in 'blur' is my go-to product for every day use. Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum for evenings and events. But I like a light 'un-made-up' coverage.

I bought MAC Mineralise skin finish after a recommendation in here and it is lovely.

I have an oily t-zone so I use powder too.

I just find myself walking around the shops, putting some on my hand to check the coverage. Then I um n ah about buying, I'm reluctant to spend out lots on a whim.

I've now decided that providing the base is perfect everything else should hopefully fall into place.

I think I'll go to the Chanel counter and get them to apply it. I just worry that I'll end up leaving the store n seeing it in natural light n realise I've made a mistake. I always find that getting the right colour is a nightmare for me.

OP - YSL are really good at giving out samples . Well worth asking for a colour match and then samples to try out to make sure the investment is worth it . If the sales assistants see you are genuinely a potential customer but wary of making an expensive mistake they always help out, at least in my experience . At Chanel I asked for a sample of their new CC cream recently and was given it readily . Just steel yourself to ask !

Go to Bobbi brown, I had a fab free makeover there and bought some great foundation.

Chanel Vitalumiere, the best foundation out there imo

I have had lots of foundation as I get lots free at work.
My favourite is bobbi brown. I don't like anything else of hers but the foundation with any loose powder applied on top is fab.
Current fave powder is the white one by smash box.

Ps I'm 40 this year but flame me I don't have many wrinkles. Yet.

My choice is Dior. I'd say Chanel and Dior are equal for foundations but the Chanel colours come up more yellowy.

I use Diorskin Nude, with a Clarins primer and Dior Skinflash which can be used as both a cover up or a highlighter.

And Chanel loose powder.
