Once you hit 40 does it all of a sudden become SO difficult to find the perfect foundation?

Since reaching the big 40 I've found that finding my perfect, go to everyday foundation is not as easy to come by anymore. Over the years I have tried many and can honestly say that the only foundation I've ever bought twice is MAC face n body.

I'm looking for something that makes my skin look glowing, not greasy and shiny. One that doesn't cake into the lines and glides on beautifully. One that will last all day and that people will say that I look well. I also need a powder to, one that isn't carry.

I had a look whilst out shopping today and was almost left screaming by the end of it. Which one, which texture, which powder to go with it.

I was quite taken by Chanel vita lumiere and their healthy glow sheer powder, I only tried it on my hand but it seemed light with a good coverage.

Has anymore tried this is?
Can anyone recommend any?

Have just bought nars tinted moisturiser. It is gorgeous, try it!

I've also had a foundation nightmare in my late thirties.

I used to wear EL Doublewear Light for day, but they changed the formulation and it wasn't right anymore. Revlon Colourstay for night/going out, but it became too heavy and showed up fine lines.

Then went on to Chanel Vitalumiere, but the shades were never 100% right.

I'm currently using Bourjois CC cream. I apply it with a brush and it seems to be pretty good and gives a light but fairly flawless finish.

I find that I'm reluctant to try ones that I haven't been colour matched with. I'm always wary of trying to put it on my cheek n match it up without help.

I used to use & swear by Chanel VItalumiere. Since discovering Bourjois Healthy Mix I will never but Chanel, again. It's made in the same factory, apparently & I see little difference. It's ace, glowy & silky. I always blot with a tissue before applying powder, I'd never use anything else & I have used a LOT of high end foundations.

I was nude in Vitalumiere, now use shade 53 in the Bourjois.

MissMiss1 · 29/08/2015 22:47

Is it the bourjois serum foundation or the other one?
I've tried it before but found it a little drying sometimes

Also, just to throw something else into the mix, what about concealers?

Clarins creamy concealer is ace

gonegrey56 · 30/08/2015 08:39

Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer is my choice . Does not cake but is densely pigmented and does the job!

OooooohMissDiane · 30/08/2015 09:53

No, not the serum one, just the straight up Healthy Mix

Branleuse · 30/08/2015 11:43

boots no7 stay perfect is pretty good, and YSL fusion

I bought some DW from duty free that is really shit unless i put a smoother over the top, but trying to get through the tube

CalonDu · 30/08/2015 13:18

best foundation I've ever had is By Terry Cover Expert (£45) - one of the few makeovers I've had where I genuinely couldn't see the base caking up on my skin. But Bourjois CC creme/Healthy Mix is v good for every day.

MamaLazarou · 30/08/2015 17:52

Best concealer I've tried is Lancome long-lasting softening concealer. I will never use anything else now I've found it.

I like chanel aqua vitalumiere. Try some on and then see how it looks in daylight.

I find the older I get the lighter a foundation I need.

GeorginaWorsley · 30/08/2015 19:37

Am agreeing with you on 2 threads now Mrs CBGrin
Vitalumiere Aqua is my favourite.
Am new to it as I said up thread but love the finish.
Plus the yellowy shades suit my colouring.

MissMiss1 · 01/09/2015 09:27

What is the difference between lumiere n lumiere aqua?

So you set it with a powder after?

GeorginaWorsley · 01/09/2015 15:43

I was told aqua better for oily skin.
I use powder on my t zone as I have an unnaturally oily chin. Sad

Mainkster · 01/09/2015 15:50

Max factor do a whipped creme foundation.
It doesn't go dry and it isn't too shiny.

Chanel, YSL and all the high brow brands are designers and perfumeries, overpriced under performing make up IMO.
