Is this dress a bit OTT for a wedding guest?

It's this one from Pretty Kitty.
It's a medium sized church wedding in Scotland and I don't really know anyone...
I showed DP and he thinks it's fine but I can't help but wonder if it appears attention seeking... Help me s&b gurus!

Is this dress a bit OTT for a wedding guest?

Will it hang flat or have an underskirt holding it out like in the picture?

BrendaandEddie · 26/08/2015 13:42

SCOTLAND?

freezing

FauxFox · 26/08/2015 13:43

Nice - i'd wear it, black shoes/bag, red lips and sleek hair, pretty! Might be chilly though - have you got a coat/cardi?

tabulahrasa · 26/08/2015 13:45

It's not to my taste, but it's fine as far as appropriately dressed goes.

LoveAGoodRummage · 26/08/2015 13:48

Yes FREEZING! Was thinking thick black tights too? Skirt goes out a little but I can get an underskirt for extra volume Grin

Liking the black and red theme a lot, thanks Fox. And yes I will definitely have a coat and a cardi!

i dont like fifties stuff but if you do
Personally I would get an autumn dress with sleeves

nottheOP · 26/08/2015 13:51

I think it's OTT unless it's Christmas/ a winter wedding and you're sure that the bridesmaids aren't wearing.

AlisonWunderland · 26/08/2015 13:51

I'm wearing a similar shape to a wedding soon, maybe less full but yes, it has a net underskirt.
I'm also hoping I'm not OTT. Or even worse OTT Mutton dressed as Lamb!

LoveAGoodRummage · 26/08/2015 13:51

I tried to find a nice long sleeved dress and failed... Feel free to make suggestions - I'm 5'6, size 8 with zero curves and ballerina boobs. Budget is no more than £50...

Funny you should mention that NottheOP, because I thought the same. Alas it's in October. Colour scheme is Christmassy though...

I'm mid 30s. Is that old? Have I wandered into mutton territory??

It's a gorgeous dress.

I'm your shape* but a bit taller and I get my dresses from Phase Eight.

*if ballerina boobs = flat Smile

BrendaandEddie · 26/08/2015 14:01

phase eight a bit old for someone in their thirties?

Lucked · 26/08/2015 14:02

Meh so what if it is a bit cold no need to dress for the artic, I am Scottish and have never worn a dress with sleeves or black tights to a wedding no matter the time of year. I have worn coats/ jackets for the church but once you get inside at the hotel the weather outside doesn't matter.

I wouldn't go for a really full petticoat if you don't know how others will dress but the dress in fine.

BrendaandEddie · 26/08/2015 14:03

thats Typical scots though! All shivering

Lucked · 26/08/2015 14:04

Also you wouldn't be overdressed at any of the weddings I have been to. Where is the reception?

FauxFox · 26/08/2015 14:05

I'd go for something different if you're wearing opaque black tights:
floral
another
green
I also think the tunic with high neck/long sleeves would flatter your figure better....black patent shoes and bag, bright coat to match dress.

BrendaandEddie · 26/08/2015 14:06

like first two of the yumi ones
If you like flowers

I dont GET the fancy dress aspect of fifties dresses

LoveAGoodRummage · 26/08/2015 14:08

Looks like I need to get myself to River Island! I particularly like the last one but not sure about the material.

With regards to the weather, I am planning on donning my wine jacket during the evening!

Hadn't thought of Phase Eight, will have a nosey...

I love that but I have boobs and I'm not sure if they'd ruin the look...they'd definitely show in that gap! Hmm.

LoveAGoodRummage · 26/08/2015 14:10

Lucked, if I recall correctly it's at the local village hall which is very pretty by all accounts. The groom etc are in kilts if that's an indication of dress code?
