S&B types - save me from a uniform of skinny jeans, long-sleeved t-shirts with boots and a floaty scarf.

What will stylish types wearing this autumn/winter that I can try to tweek my current wardrobe (as I'm also skint so this has to be shoestring fashion) so I don't look quite so much like a SAH 30-something Mum of 2 who lives outside the M25 who used to make an effort...

Are we all going to be wearing a sea of burgandy again this year?

See, not sure about suade and fur for similar 'not easy to wash' reasons.

Ponchos and capes - this could work...

Think I'm just going to think about a colour palate that's more browns and dark reds.

KV - I don't like that skirt, sorry, I think it would be hard to wear. And I'm not a big fan of clothes that require heels this year!

Shirt dresses, ooh, that could be a nice stylish option. Any good linkies anyone's seen?

Love this but not fitted enough for me.

DinosaursRoar · 18/08/2015 16:29

hmm, I don't really care how 'on trend' this shirt dress is, I don't think I could leave the house in it...

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/08/2015 17:27

That's horrible - looks like it came from a school jumble sale in 1975.

Floisme · 18/08/2015 18:02

Yikes to that dress Grin

Please can someone explain what the point of a poncho or cape is - I mean when it rains. It's going to be quite soggy enough in flares.

DinosaursRoar · 18/08/2015 18:04

oh but I like this - roll neck, slightly vintage feel, but not a tricky colour and could wear with flat boots for school run...

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/08/2015 18:06

Okay if you are tall and slim. I'd look bloody awful in it.

DinosaursRoar · 18/08/2015 18:32

Floisme - I'm think I'm a bit with you with ponchos - it's basically a jumper you can't put a coat over the top... although i've seen some capes made of more coat material, so would be a bit more practical...

Remus - I'm slim but not tall, hmm, might not be a goer then...

KanyesVest - I tried that skirt earlier in the year and it was a shocker!

KanyesVest · 18/08/2015 19:25

Sounds about right. I'm unfortunately in that child related place of washable being the most important consideration.

Love that roll neck dress, I might investigate further.

Completely agree about ponchos and capes. I'm a titch with a rack and a half so I look like a circus tent for the 7 dwarves in them.

oh dancing - I like that dress, but as I'm very short, I couldn't wear it as the waist would be in the wrong place. I quite like the maroony red option too!

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/08/2015 20:05

Not overly fond of the Warehouse one either, sorry. The waist looks unflattering and I suspect that the fabric wouldn't be very nice. Not having any luck finding potential black ones. :(

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/08/2015 20:07

Cotton but shapeless

Quite like this but the print would swamp me

Much easier to find nice denim ones than others.

DinosaursRoar · 18/08/2015 20:25

I did find a nice one in New Look over the summer (not even realising I was a thing I should be looking for), but was very summery, and I think I just got lucky, on most normal height adults woman it would look a bit wrong as the waist would be too high, however on me it looked perfect!

odd place to find one, but shirt dress in Sainsburys - not perfect, but bargainous.

Have got an ancient khaki cotton one from Gap. Don't like the Sainsbo's one - the colour looks 'off' and it's polyester. Love that grey one but it's much dressier and more edgy than I'm after - I just want plain old simple black!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/08/2015 21:18

Speaking of Gap

KanyesVest · 18/08/2015 21:23

This ticks many trend boxes. Bloody polyester mix though.

mrslebon · 18/08/2015 22:13

Love the look of this dress from Hush: www.hush-uk.com/womenswear/daywear/tara_dress_burgundy.htm

Might order these grey leather ankle boots from New Look:

DinosaursRoar · 19/08/2015 08:35

mrslebon - I like that dress, but I fear I'd have to not eat carbs for the whole of the winter to wear it - it's not going to be forgiving of a bit of a belly bloat...

New Look midi navy shirt dress - for those looking for such a thing!
