What colour eyeshadow for green eyes?

macnab · 07/08/2015 16:41

I have green eyes and since forever (am 40) I have been wearing brown shades on my lids. During the day I wear a pale gold/bronze shade and for going out I tend to stick to similar shades but a bit bolder/darker.

I'd like to wear something else for a change but no idea what. Can anyone suggest what other colours might suit? And recommend an inexpensive brand please?

Thankyou!

Anything ... Any colour you want. You don't have to stick to a colour just because of your eye colour. Just don't wear one colour alone because that looks naff.

PetiteBateau · 07/08/2015 16:51

Purple

SuperFlyHigh · 07/08/2015 16:52

actually Dukketeater no any colour looks silly sometimes - I doubt red or cranberry would suit green eyes.

this article give some good ideas.

Inexpensive brands can be anything from Maybelline/L'Oreal to Bourjois.

Bobbi Brown do nice single eyeshadows and so do MAC (probably cheaper than Bobbi).

Sorry but what do you mean about not wearing just one colour alone? For daytime I only ever wear one shade (pale) is that a real faux pas? Blush

Purples and plums. Browns.

Purples aren't easy to wear for a daytime look though. Something like MAC Satin Taupe (a silver purple taupe) would look incredible.

Mac shale

SuperFlyHigh · 07/08/2015 16:55

you can easily wear more than one colour for day but make sure you get tips how to apply and blend it properly.

You can easily wear one colour for daytime if you prefer it.

macnab · 07/08/2015 16:58

That was a good link, thanks. I never would have considered purple, not sure if I'm brave enough but might try a test run first some night!

I wouldn't have time in the mornings to be adding extra colours and blending etc, so glad to hear that one colour for daytime is ok.

Might give the silver/grey shade a go for that.

Red or cranberry look terrible on anybody. Like they have an eye infection...

SuperFlyHigh · 07/08/2015 17:08

wow Dukketeater - I guess my Shu Uemura ME brown, Urban Decay Gash and there's another MAC one I use that I use on my eyes looks crap - unless the people I'm with are lying...

I'm one of those people who have blue/grey eyes with gold/brown flecks and I suit green so eg if I wear a green top my eyes look more green.

Red isn't good generally but I know some people who do it but the above is fine.

AnaisB · 07/08/2015 17:09

Definitely purple - Bobby Brown Dusty Mauve (stick) and Heather (powder) are nice. I don't agree that only one colour looks bad either.

MaryBerrysEyelashes · 07/08/2015 17:09

I'd agree with all those recs in that article. I like grey pencils. Maybe dark purple. Shale shadow if at all

PetiteBateau · 07/08/2015 17:10

There are so many purples, have a look around & see which ones you like

Dukketeater · 07/08/2015 17:12

When did I say brown looks crap?

SuperFlyHigh · 07/08/2015 17:13

the ME Brown I'm on about is the same shade as UD Gash.

SuperFlyHigh · 07/08/2015 17:15

this is the UD gash in eyeliner format:-

I don't think brown works as well as a purple tbf

bloodyteenagers · 07/08/2015 17:17

I wear golds, Browns, plum, purples, dark green. Peach and cream together. Pinks.
Silver didn't look good. But smoky grey looked good.

Mascara brown. Eyeliner depends on eye shadow, sometimes all I wear is a black eyeliner and mascara.
.
Went to lots of make up counters and also experimented at home with a palette (helped that I had dd's with loads of makeup)

SuperFlyHigh · 07/08/2015 17:18

Mary the Shu Uemura one I was referring to is called ME Brown - but it has numbers after it and looks cranberry in colour.

SwedishEdith · 07/08/2015 17:19

Plum looks good. And navy, dark grey or dark green eyeliner.

macnab · 07/08/2015 17:35

Thank you all so much for the suggestions. I'll have to lock myself in the bathroom like a teenager and practice!

My MIL told me recently that only 2% of the world's population have green eyes. But of trivia for a Friday afternoon Smile

The L'Oreal nude pallette in Rose is lovely for green eyes.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 07/08/2015 20:28

plums and purples look fab.golds and browns too, these can be lined with a different shade of green which can sometimes work. Even teal can look good but only for special occasions!

Pinks can look really weird though and bring the green out far far too much so be careful with them!

MaryBerrysEyelashes · 07/08/2015 20:52

cranbery - good DONT WORY i am sure you look lovely!

notquitenormal · 07/08/2015 21:02

I have dark green/grey eyes and wear purples & greens of all shades to bring out the green. Slate grey and navy to bring out they grey. I also use purple or green tinted mascara.

Browns, golds, neutrals general look awful.
