Comfiest Birkenstock Style?

yazzy85 · 19/06/2015 19:10

What's the most comfortable Birkenstock style? I've seen them recommended loads on here and need a pair for holiday. Madrid or Arizona? Or one with a back strap like Rio or Bali?

Mayari

RooibosTeaAgain · 19/06/2015 23:56

Mayari or Florida.

My mayari have just broken ( the footbed), but cannot find any in shops. Wondered if anyone had found an online site that had colours other than white or black?

Schoolaroundthecorner · 20/06/2015 16:19

Zalando have birkenstocks in various colours/styles

carrie74 · 20/06/2015 18:46

Mayari, been wearing them a few years now (different pairs!). Love them. Can't wear the Madrid, they bruise the top of my foot, are too flappy and unsupportive. Also quite like Tizeh, it's my favourite "look" of Birkenstocks.

carrie74 · 20/06/2015 18:46

Gizeh not Tizeh

MollieCoddler · 20/06/2015 18:52

I had some which were like the classic Madrid but with two straps. Not as chunky as the Arizona ones.

Can anyone tell me what type these are?! They do not appear on the main website
I can't wear Madrid, too flappy

yazzy85 · 20/06/2015 19:14

MollieCoddler I think those may be the Sydney style.

Gizeh are so comfy, live in them from April to October. Had over 10 pairs in the last 7 years.

BlueEyedWonder · 20/06/2015 19:31

A couple of years ago I bought Madrids in silver. They rubbed my feet to the point I simply could not wear them. It put me off Birkenstocks which I thought were meant to be comfy!
This year I decided to try again. I bought Floridas in black patent. There's been no rubbing and they're super comfy.

Housewife2010 · 20/06/2015 19:37

I bought Gizehs a couple of summers ago and find the plastic toeposts so uncomfortable. I don't have any problems with Mephistos or Fitflops (after they've been broken in) but the Birkenstocjs sit by my back door. I wear them in the garden with the forlorn hope that one day they may actually be comfortable!

Thanks yazzie. Not Sydney. The ones I'm looking for are like Almere but without the cross effect. I have them but they must have been discontinued

Madrids, I hate toe posts.
I walked for hours in NY in them with no problems.

FriskyMare · 20/06/2015 20:44

Mollie they look like Ibiza to me. I have two ancient pairs in turquoise and silver and would love some new ones but can't find them anywhere.

MollieCoddler · 20/06/2015 21:18

Yes yes! They are Ibiza ! Thanks so much

drinkscabinet · 20/06/2015 21:31

I have Yaras and love them, the leather toe post is very comfy (way more comfortable than my Gizeh) and the ankle strap makes them more comfortable to wear than standard birkenstocks (and I say that as someone who has been wearing Birkenstocks for over 20 years).

PrimalLass · 20/06/2015 22:52

I have the Ibizas in black too. Love them.

Branleuse · 21/06/2015 10:40

I cant even walk in the ibiza style. How do they not just flap on and offf?

MollieCoddler · 21/06/2015 11:49

I would say exactly the same about Madrid! I guess it just depends on your foot shape.

iwantgin · 21/06/2015 15:25

I have Madrid and Gizeh.

I find them both very comfortable amd can walk around all day in them.

But if I am driving I will wear the Gizehs.

missmartha · 21/06/2015 15:31

I love Milanos, because My toes are hopeless and refuse to do the grab thing you need with any flip flop, backless type shoe.

Milanos aren't beautiful, but I have worn them everywhere and if in doubt, take a pair with me.

I once changed into them in the Paris Metro, as the 'very comfy' shoes I was wearing started to rub.

You have to love the heroic Milano.

yazzy85 · 21/06/2015 21:13

iwantgin that's a good tip about driving, I was wondering about that.

I adore my Gizehs. I wear them all summer. My curent pair are 3 this year and still look great. I have them in brown and they go with everything! Thinking of getting another pair too

Pumpkinette · 22/06/2015 15:32

I have a pair of Mayari Birkenstocks and they are they comfiest things I've ever worn. Mine are about 7 years old now and could be doing with getting replaced soon. I think this will be their last summer.

yazzy85 · 23/06/2015 20:47

Thank you all for the recommendations I tried out the Madrid, Rio, Mayari, Florida and Papilo styles but they didn't sit/look right or feel completely comfortable. The Arizona and Gizeh are very good on my feet though and I've kept the Gizeh in the end because Arizona's straps look too big on my feet.
