Which acid toner do you use and would you recommend it?

I've got dry and dehydrated skin but it also seems to be becoming a bit combination as I get older! I get quite shiny on my forehead and have noticed some small red bumps appearing. I am prone to flakiness and scaliness on and around my nose. Pretty much no spots ever so acne is not an issue

I've been using REN Clarifying Toner and I'm pretty impressed with it but its the first acid toner I've ever used and so I have nothing to compare it to. I thought of trying Pixi Glow Tonic but have read very mixed reviews - some people love it, some are very underwhelmed by it. I have also heard good things about Clarins Exfoliating Toner, which is a bit more pricey. My budget is up to ?30. Any recommendations? Thanks

I posted the Bravura calendula toner above. It has neither ingredient you want to avoid, ingredients are listed.

Melonfool · 20/06/2015 08:42

Thank you, it does have alcohol in it. I'll see how I get on with the pads and then review.

yazzy85 · 20/06/2015 13:14

Melonfool the FAB (First Aid Beauty) Pads are alcohol free and no witch hazel, did you mean nip+fab instead?

Melonfool · 20/06/2015 13:19

Ah, yes, sorry - the Dragons Blood one? Will see how I get on.

Melonfool · 20/06/2015 13:20

Oh, yeah, I didn't get those cos of the cucumber - I have had an allergic reaction to cucumber in the past so I avoid it now.

Just collected my Boots online order of Nip and Fab pads (half price online only and not in store). Do you wash your face after using them and before the serum/moisturiser or not?

yazzy85 · 20/06/2015 14:02

Thats ok Melonfool I was getting confused too, doesn't help that they both have the word FAB in their names. I ordered both of the nip+fab pads to try out too. Let's see how they are. The Dragons blood one did feel nice on my skin after using it.

sonata you use the pads after washing your face and before serum/moisturiser

Paula's Choice BHA 2%. It's more of a lotion than a toner. It's pretty good, but I have my eye on the CosRx A-Sol toner and BHA Blackhead Power Liquids which are meant to be fantastic.

sonata1 · 20/06/2015 14:40

Thanks Yazzy . Do you need to rinse your face after the pads or just carry on with the next step?

MsBojangles · 20/06/2015 14:51

I'm using Pixi Glow Tonic which is ok, nothing special but gentle enough to use every day.

I've also got Unwrinkle Pads by Peter Thomas Roth, these pack more of a punch so I only use them 2/3 times a week. I cut the pads in half so they actually work out quite cost effect.

yazzy85 · 20/06/2015 15:19

sonata1 no need to rinse after using the nip+fab pads. Hope they work well for you :)

Melonfool · 20/06/2015 15:48

I looked at Paula's Choice but it was really expensive

sonata1 · 20/06/2015 17:59

Thanks Yazzy. Going to try them tonight !!!

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/06/2015 20:18

Dont rub them hard though, I swipe them over my face, neck and chest lightly.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 21/06/2015 10:35

Cereal- the Olay one is called 7 in 1 Age defying, beige-brown bottle and purple black label. I bought it in Italy, but they have it on Amazon for about £6 I noticed.

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/06/2015 10:48

That toners £3 in Superdrug at the moment.

Annarose2014 · 21/06/2015 11:00

I'm using the Boots Time Delay one. It seems to be doing some good - my pigmentation seems a bit more faded. I'm almost out and want to try a different one. Interesting that the Pixi one is getting a bit of a "meh" reaction here.

Anyone using a glycolic acid one? A lot of them seem to have salycylic acid in, but my skin is on the drier side.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 21/06/2015 11:54

Anna, I would like a cheap GA one next, as I'm dry and withered Grin rather than shiny!

cerealqueen · 22/06/2015 21:48

Cheers DrankSangria Will check that out!

I tried the Pixi Glow Tonic - was underwhelmed plus it had a really old lady smell! I got used to it eventually but did not enjoy using it.

I also tried the Bravura Calendula toner. It was good but even better was the Bravura 15% Glycolic Acid Treatment Serum/Gel. I stopped using toner altogether as this was so good - maybe because it was a gel you could pat on? I always feel like the toner stays in the cotton wool pad and swiping it over does not do that much to actually get the product on your face.

cerealqueen · 23/06/2015 22:23

I found these on the Bravura website, might give one of them a go!

cerealqueen · 23/06/2015 22:37

oops, didn't see your post lily!

LilyBobtail · 23/06/2015 22:48

Obviously meant to be! Bravura stuff is good, I think.
