Is this dress 'suitable' for my 40th birthday party?

I love this dress and would like to wear it to my 40th birthday party next week (in a bar, pretty relaxed rather than dressy). But, I have a niggling worry that it looks like something my 6 year old should be wearing to her birthday party...?? Is it 'appropriate' for a 40 year old woman (eek!). And if not, where can I look for something similar but less cutesy? Advice welcome!

Absolutely!

Very flattering length, too.

PinkGinny · 18/04/2015 00:51

Of course it is. Wee bit funk, nice shape and doesn't scream High Street/ Trying too hard.

Own it Smile

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 18/04/2015 01:39

I like it - go for it!

Amy106 · 18/04/2015 01:44

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 18/04/2015 01:56

Absolutely. It's gawjuss

Im not so sure. Do any of your friends have the Cath Kidston cowboy wallpaper my son used to have in his bedroom? Because it kind of looks like that.

ScooseIsLoose · 18/04/2015 02:08

Sorry vile dress reminds me of the von trapps curtain clothes

DragonRojo · 18/04/2015 05:17

sorry, but I find it hideous

FeijoaSundae · 18/04/2015 05:52

If you like it, go for it.

It's always a danger garnering opinions, because there's zero chance of everyone liking the same item of clothing, and people being unkind will be enough to knock your confidence, even if you previously loved, and could've well carried it off.

I couldn't wear it because I'm Amazonian, and it just wouldn't like right. But if, say, you're teeny and gamine, and you style it just so, it could look amazing. :)

It is YOUR birthday! You should wear whatever you like! I like this dress and I do actually like the pattern.
I hate the fact that at a "certain" age we all of a sudden start thinking what's "appropriate". Who cares?! You want it, you wear it. Hope you have a fabulous birthday Flowers

ElizabethHoover · 18/04/2015 07:48

It's a wedding guest dresss

WipsGlitter · 18/04/2015 07:53

I agree it's more wedding than night on the town. So it depends what you're doing for your birthday as well.

WildBillfemale · 18/04/2015 07:57

Sorry no - It's ok if you are 40 going on 8

Eustasiavye · 18/04/2015 07:58

I think it's lovely.

BafanaThesober · 18/04/2015 08:00

Gorgeous
Would wear it in a heartbeat.

It's a great shape, v adult daytime shape, would be great on holiday, v fun print. I love it. I think its the sort of dress you can't wear and be unhappy. These are all great associations for a 40 th!

Rhymerocket · 18/04/2015 08:12

ILOVE it!

Defo a good choice.

HappyGirlNow · 18/04/2015 08:13

It's awful. Unless you're 7. Sorry.

MarzipanDildo · 18/04/2015 08:16

I think it's very pretty, flattering and quirky; and if you love it then this will show and you'll look gorgeous Smile

Never heard of this label before, but I really like their stuff!

nilbyname · 18/04/2015 08:19

Shape and cut of dress is lovely!

Pattern- not my Taste- very cath kidston.

I would go for a more sophisticated 40/50s print, and keep the shape.

HellKitty · 18/04/2015 08:22

I've got the Cath Kidston cowboy mug in my paw right now, filled with coffee, not gin, and it does look like that.

I wouldn't wear it personally but if you can pull off a quirky look then why not?

scarletforya · 18/04/2015 08:26

Honestly, I think the colors are ugly. It reminds me of a pair of curtains, from the seventies, from a caravan.

ElizabethHoover · 18/04/2015 08:39

Is it a bar you're going to? You'll look very very 40

PrimalLass · 18/04/2015 08:50

I think you could get something much nicer
