Is this dress 'suitable' for my 40th birthday party?

I love this dress and would like to wear it to my 40th birthday party next week (in a bar, pretty relaxed rather than dressy). But, I have a niggling worry that it looks like something my 6 year old should be wearing to her birthday party...?? Is it 'appropriate' for a 40 year old woman (eek!). And if not, where can I look for something similar but less cutesy? Advice welcome!

Love it! Have you tried it on? Does it suit your shape and colouring? If so, buy it!

ElizabethHoover - really? I'm a bit worried about that...I know jeans and heels would be more 'in place' at a bar but, well, just a bit dull.
Thanks everyone else for the replies by the way, a wide gamut of opinions here! Any tips on where else to look for a dress that might not make me look quite so '40'? I'm running out of time!

Dress is nice but to me seems more garden party but still could work. But I can link to the dress I wore for my 40th

Just looked at the other dresses from the company, I would probably pick some of the flowery ones for myself, but then I'm not you, and I love the shape of the dress you chose.

Some lovely dresses on that Get Cutie site (including your dress Big Mouth). Thanks!

Hi pinkpip100

What's your size, if you are heavy chested that dress won't work you will be fairly squished in it. This season you can try hues of blue.... :)

Tell us a little more about your size , might be able to suggest something.

Koalafications · 19/04/2015 14:04

I think it's a lovely shape but I prefer the blue one with white polka dots.

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE · 19/04/2015 14:06

Love it!

I prefer solid colours (usually black!) - I just think they're more elegant, more striking, and less able to be "priced". Plus patterns get you totally lost in a crowd. Solid colours stand out.

For a party in a bar, I'd wear a knock-out black, cobalt blue, white or red dress in a really flattering style, knee length. With some classic heels. Asos has a lot of gorgeous dresses, as does Isabella Oliver (or whatever that changed to - Baukgen or something?!)

If that dress is your style, go for it! It's certainly not too young. In fact, almost the opposite. I like the neckline.

burnishedsilver · 19/04/2015 14:23

It's a little girls dress. Sorry.

Not keen at all - it's really aging. But it's YOUR birthday!
