How to get different versions of the "natural look" - this is quite interesting

This is a great article about how different make-up counters interpret the "natural look"

I like being able to slide the various photos.

I liked the number 7 one best. That pink lipstick was just right for her skin tone. Nars was quite nice too.

But actually, she looks best of all with no makeup. I love her natural fresh-faced look.

TheCowThatLaughs · 14/04/2015 22:10

I'm another one who likes the NARS one best.
I'm shocked how wrong 2 of them got her foundation though! Very orangey

daimbardiva · 14/04/2015 22:16

Really interesting - some of the foundations were really wrong for her thoguh, esp the Benefit one! The No 7 one was actually pretty good - given how scathing people can be about it on here.

Great idea for an article and she's written it really well :)

Leviticus · 14/04/2015 22:25

I'd put money on it being Nars Sheer Glow foundation, which I've just bought. The other one they do is a heavier coverage so I doubt they'd use that for 'natural'.

OttiliaVonBCup · 14/04/2015 22:28

For me the moral of the story us get the foundation right.
Ant darker and it looks horrible.

Ifionlyknewthenwhatiknownow3 · 14/04/2015 22:38

Nars, and urban decay lipstick. Anyone know what the lipstick is?

Pameron · 14/04/2015 22:49

That Lancome foundation was bloody awful.

BiscuitMillionaire · 14/04/2015 22:50

I thought Nars too, when looking through. Amazed that so many people agree. I like the No. 7 foundation tone too.

Don't you think it must depend also quite a lot on the skill of the individual makeup artist rather than just the products?

VenusRising · 15/04/2015 00:35

I think all the make up is awful on her.
The eye make up especially has a doll quality to it, with Liza Minnelli lashes - very clockwork orange.

Some of the foundation is absolutely terrible, and they eyebrow pencils were too red.

Rather scarily I think I know where princess Béatrice and Eugenie get their make up done now......

She looks better without, and only needs mascara on top lashes, maybe a well blended light grey pencil on he top lids, some brow gel to tame them, a slick of a peachy coloured lippy and some creme blush. Her skin is too lovely for foundation and it looks plastic if it hides her gorgeous freckles.

LilQueenie · 15/04/2015 01:56

it was interesting. I wonder how the same brands would do this with different make up artists. I think a lot is down to personal opinion of the make up artists themselves. I like the natural look. For me its nivea rose shimmer lip balm and bb cream to even out the skin tone. Maybe a little mascara and thats it. How can 15 items of makeup be natural. or even the one who used primer and bb cream. bb cream is supposed to take over the place of a primer in the first place.

RonaldMcDonald · 15/04/2015 02:09

She should have her eyebrows tattooed on semi permanently.
Or dyed v regularly

OttiliaVonBCup · 15/04/2015 06:47

The thing is though no one ever wears only one brand of make up, we all pick and mix bits.

I did like the article despite that.

Floisme · 15/04/2015 06:58

Thanks for the article. I liked Nars but that's way too many products for me though interesting to see what a faff it can be to get the 'natural' look.
I thought Bobbi Brown was a close second and Number 7 good too.
Hated Lancome and Urban Decay - I wanted to spit on a tissue and rub it all off for her.

DahliaBloom · 15/04/2015 08:40

Agree with Venus. She's got such pretty, young-looking skin, she doesn't need any foundation at all! The foundation looks awful in all of them, though some much worse than others. Can't believe she liked the Mac one best, the foundation looks like it's been put on with a trowel.

She should just have a bit of eye make up and sheer lip colour, and maybe some Benetint for her cheeks or similar.

Pumpkinette · 15/04/2015 08:51

I thought Bobbi Brown was the best look - she looks fresh and much younger. NARS was second - I think the lipstick shade wasn't as nice but the eyebrows are better. A mix of the two would look best.

Benefit foundation was way too dark / orangey looking for her but the brows looked good. Urban decay and mac looked too made up in my opinion for a natural look. The NO7 foundation shade match was really good

Eliza22 · 15/04/2015 08:58

Interesting. Benefit and Lancôme got it ALL wrong I think....very aged look for such a young woman. I liked Clarins the best. Fewest products used and very pretty look.

Urban Decay look was very polished looking but 15 products?! Hardly "natural"!

OopTheShard · 15/04/2015 09:05

Really interesting. Thanks for sharing!

I liked the Nars and No 7 ones best. No.7 seems to be the only one that didnt struggle to get the right shade of foundation for her.

Interestingly, I think it shows how badly most foundations age you! Her skin is lovely and fresh, yet almost all the foundations made it look crepey and obviously made up. Ditto to 'making up' your eyebrows. It works for models on screen, but looks dreadful in real life on most people.

polyhymnia · 15/04/2015 09:08

Yes another vote for Nars and for BB.they were already my favourites out of these, while brands I already didn't like such as Benefit and Urban Decay didn't come out so well.

Always find Lancôme a bit old- fashioned - like Estée Lauder. Love Clarins skin care but have never rated their makeup.

Agree I liked her without makeup and also that brow tint would be good idea.

Tanaqui · 15/04/2015 11:13

Yes- if she reads this you look fab without makeup and your eyebrows are cute and youthful when you don't colour them!

SwedishEdith · 15/04/2015 11:18

She's on Twitter - should link this thread to her

I know it's meant to be a natural look, but I think the Bobbi Brown is a little too light. Benefit looks like she's been tango'ed, Urban decay although it's heavier I think really suits her and highlights her eyes very well. Nars is nice, Lancome somehow got her foundation tone too orangey and heavy which is odd because they do some really nice pale toned foundations. MAC is lovely although I suspect that the nice dewy look will have turned greasy in about an hour. No7 is ok, as is Clarins, but neither impressed me really.

I actually agree with her favourites look wise - MAC for the lighter look and Urban Decay for the slightly heavier but flattering. Some of them took the natural look too far and just made her look exactly the same as she does without it.

KissyBoo · 15/04/2015 13:49

Personally I think the Nars one was better by a mile. All the others failed to match her skintone. Lancôme was positively caked on. Bobbi Brown lookedno different to before. I hate the caked on brow look- she's much prettier without.

Fauxlivia · 15/04/2015 15:05

Nars and No7 were the best imo (if she wants it Wink )

Behooven · 30/04/2015 22:38

Great article, but so many products! I'd like to get the Bobbi Brown or Nars look with only 4 products like Clarins used

Tisgrand · 01/05/2015 12:43

If she went to the counters and asked for a natural, everyday look then No. 7 got it exactly right, its fresh, simple and youthful. Its the no-makeup kind of look and I think it suits her delicate colouring best. Some of the eyebrows are horrific in the other looks, v orangey and so not right for her!
