Wanted: seriously good knickers

I'm returning to work shortly. Dd is 10mo. Body still a post partum wreck size 18/20. My favourite type of pants in the past have been "sensible" cotton/elastane mix not granny knickers but medium height. Not thong. Not hi leg. I would love if they were pretty and cotton but prepared to compromise style for comfort. Do such knickers exist?! If so from where?

Are the sloggis worth £11/pair?

M&S do high waisted short type knickers which are all over lace but tummy control thick type lace. £6 a pair. Holds everything in.

Only1scoop · 01/04/2015 20:11

I always wear the cotton control pants from m&s for work they are lovely soft cotton but hold tummy in a little and give me a nice shape. They come in packs of 2 and sometimes 3 black white or nude.

Only1scoop · 01/04/2015 20:12

And they knock spots off Sloggys

HoneySwampDragonInMourning · 01/04/2015 20:14

Another Gap pants fan here. But might try Tk Maxx

helzapoppin2 · 01/04/2015 20:42

A vote for Sainsburys Tu cotton/Lycra multipacks, 25%'off at the moment!
They are my alternative now that my Sloggis are falling apart after a gazillion years.

Polkadot1974 · 01/04/2015 20:55

I just ordered Sloggis from Amazon and am very disappointed. Thin, but scratchy and tiny! I seriously wondered if they were fake
Where is best to buy them? I miss TJ Huges!

BikeRunSki · 01/04/2015 21:03

Bond's from John Lewis
£££ but wonderful. Similar to the TKMaxx Pretty Poly ones, but sturdier.

Branleuse · 01/04/2015 21:15

I think the sloggis are worth having one or two pairs. They are expensive but they are much better than normal sloggis. They have a terry towel guss, and big thick waistband like mens pants. I think normal sloggis which are cheaper, are a rip off because theyre not even as good as m&s, but the sloggi comfort ones are brilliant.

cherrybath · 01/04/2015 23:29

I always used to wear M&S high leg cotton/lycra but the quality went off and now find that their synthetic midi pants are the best. Don't like the multi packs, preferring the ones with stretchy lace round the legs, they fit well and cover your bottom completely (back and front!), look nice and don't cut into you. www.marksandspencer.com/lace-high-rise-midi/p/p22237172
There are several similar versions in different fabrics on the site. Suggest that you go for a smaller size than you expect as they are very stretchy. At all costs avoid those that have a back which is all lace, they are tight and the lace doesn't stretch enough...

hollyisalovelyname · 02/04/2015 09:13

I hate the synthetic fabric M&S now use in their midis.
I want the real cotton midi in flesh tone please M&S.
Is that too much to ask?

SinglePringle · 02/04/2015 09:19

Terry gusset?! Shock.

How does that work??

Dedicated thong wearer here - never ever feel them.

Pumpkinette · 02/04/2015 09:40

idontknowmyusername those are the ones I buy and I love them. Big comfy pants that cover my bum properly. The last pack I bought hasn't lasted as well as previous ones, the elastic has gone in two pairs and one has developed a big hole at the side seam after about 2 months. I'm hoping it was just a faulty batch but I suppose they are so cheap it not a great hardship if they don't last as long. They are cotton BTW.

Shonajay · 02/04/2015 09:56

Debenhams do a range of no vpl which are basically a lace back. Soooo comfy and flattering, the I find their sizes spot on. I think they're doing a 3 for 2 at the moment as well.

Bin85 · 02/04/2015 10:01

Sloggi every time
Often offers in catalogues inside magazines

coffeenut · 02/04/2015 10:19

yy to Bonds. The cotton hipster bikini are my fave: here
They are bloody expensive in the Uk though! Sloggis are shite in comparison.

bilbodog · 02/04/2015 12:53

i've been wearing the Sloggi maxi high waisted briefs for years now and they are sooo comfortable. I wouldn't wear anything smaller, being of the larger size, as don't like VPLs.

idontknowmyusernameanymore · 02/04/2015 17:28

Pumpkinette- mine seem to last fairly well so maybe it was a duff pack, ah well at £4 you're right can hardly go wrong. The plain black ones are £2.50/3.00 for 5 pairs! Shock

queenbrunhilda · 02/04/2015 21:21

TJ Hughes lives.

sksk · 02/04/2015 22:25

Sorry to hijack this thread with my own problems but after a 4th degree tear I am struggling. Shorts or low rise never worked even before baby as they would ride up; now it is sore if they ride up! I need comfy underwear with preferably no vpl but I do prefer cotton. Also, I feel I need a wide gusset if that makes sense. I'm inclined to stick to m+s but something that is all of the above and sort of pretty would be nice!

base9 · 02/04/2015 22:34

What a wonderful thread. Another vote for Primark. All cotton and surprisingly comfy. Not as good as Bonds, not close, but a perfectly good wear for cheap and cheerful.

Finbar · 02/04/2015 23:46

Sloggis all the way. Double comfort high legs. They last and last.
Only when JL are doing a Price Match though!
