Over here, my hags.

Rudy, commiserations re BF. Always worrying, isn't it. I must chase up a friend who is supposed to be staying here next week before a funeral (she was still in good touch with the woman who died, I'd not seen her properly for years - lots of backstory there) and I wish she would get in touch and leave her horrible husband who drains the life out of her.

bigTillyMint · 08/04/2015 09:42

Beachy, that time has passes so quickly! Sounds like you had a great hol thoughSmile

Rudy, could you get to see your BF on your own?

I am going to pressure wash the patio this morning (love it!) before meeting up with a friend for a tour of the eateries and drinkeries in our nearby hipster hood.

I must say, I do enjoy school holidays with him these days. He's very good company, most amenable, and as there's only one of him there isn't any juggling of requirements to be done. And while he does love meeting up with his pals and running about, he's also very good at entertaining himself. He's currently marching about in his Darth Vader costume.

Re BFs, I realised the other day that while I have many many friends, and many good ones, I don't have anyone I could call a 'best friend'. Anyone I could put into that category has either moved away, or has someone else they would call their 'best friend'. I'm not sure if this matters or not.

I'm the opposite. I wish mine would go off and do their own thing more. I enjoyed all the farm trips, adventure playground stuff with DS1 but less so with the younger ones. DD was devil may care and always got herself into trouble, and DS2 was clingy and over cautious. They compared very unfavourably to friends' DC in my eyes and it felt stressful, somehow.

rudy that's sad about BF. Women do get distant when their relationship isn't great....I remember feeling it awfully when my first marriage was failing and it seemed that my BFF was living the dream. I think if I asked her about it now she might say that I was somewhat uncommunicative and isolated myself, not sure.

beachy my neck gets folds if I'm viewed turning it, sideways on! Grin

Trying to get revision out of the way so we can get out into the sunshine. Going for the west beach today...it's a completely undeveloped nature reserve. Need to watch it though. DD got sunburned on the her face yesterday....

bigTillyMint · 08/04/2015 11:18

I look back on the days out stage very fondly, but I know it wasn't all plain sailing!

Rudy, that is sad. Tricky if you are growing apart. Do you think she is unhappy in some way? Do you get chance to talk about stuff deeper than just what's going on at the time?

Have been pressure washing, but I think I need some green stuff remover as there is some hard-to-shift green stuffGrin

motherinferior · 08/04/2015 11:19

I think part of the problem with my lovely friend is that everyone - and I mean everyone - says LTB. (Honestly. We'd happily see her have a wild affair if that's what it took to LTB.) We say it nicely. We say it patiently. But we can't not say it IYSWIM because it is draining her.

motherinferior · 08/04/2015 18:14

In Smug Charity Shop Acquisition news, I would like to report a pair of Janet Reger pyjamas in heavy cream silk for a fiver OK they don't fit perfectly but who cares?

Rosebag · 08/04/2015 18:33

Cream silk pjs sound lovely....I just can't wear pjs since the dreaded meno. Too hot.

We are crashed out after a wonderful but somewhat strenuous hike on stones and sand dunes along the beach. About five miles...felt like 10 but the weather is sooooo gorgeous...the perfect spring day. It's amazing how all the bickering stops once we're out walking. Sadly temporary, though. I feel very virtuous having not eaten between breakfast (tuna and salad) and a very late lunch at 4 o'clock. I am hoping that all the walking will mitigate the slightly un diety diet that I am having to follow this week.
Off to make matzo pizza and Passover trifle. DS2 and I agreed that we are having intermittent cravings for that most exotic of forbidden fruits...a cheese sandwich Grin

motherinferior · 08/04/2015 18:51

Rose, you hussy!!!

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/04/2015 20:09

I am supposed to be getting ready to go to Spain. I am slumped on the sofa messaging DD1 who is Exhausted in Turkey and Can't Face the DofE hike when she gets back. Grin

Do you make Passover Trifle with macarons, Rose, or the hideous matzo?

QueenQueenie · 08/04/2015 20:51

Ooooh Mrs S, whereabouts are you going? Avec les enfants or just you and dh?
Am back in Norf London with my two swotting offspring. It's a bit lonely with just the dog to talk to and endless meals / cups of tea / plates of buttered to make...
Where in Norfolk are you CV? We probably passed each other somewhere on the M11!

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/04/2015 21:02

Going to Spain, QQ, with DD2. Hope she does not behave like I did on holiday at 14...

Rudy, you are very sociable and popular tooSmile Glad things were a bit better today.

Had a lovely tour of the hood and fab sandwiches in my favourite hipster cafe with my friend (who Wilbur knows - taps noseWink), but too early for their amazing cocktailsSad

QueenQueenie · 08/04/2015 21:27

Have a lovely time Mrs S. I've always really enjoyed going away with just one dc.. none of the aggro and all of the fun ime.

Rosebag · 08/04/2015 21:39

MrsS Blush .... Osem Cake, soaked in grape juice, any cut up fruit that I have to hand and then dollops of Makabi Caramel Flan Pudding instead of custard. Not a macaron or piece of matzo in sight...one assembles it...no cooking skill required.... Just utter desperation
Bon voyage Grin

bigTillyMint · 08/04/2015 21:40

Oh yes, have fun MrsS!

have a great time, Mrs S.

we're back, knackered but happy, from berlin. also chastened at how parochial my world view has always been. and determined to visit lots and lots more european cities.

agree with qq, going away with just one dc is fab

now facing up to reality that tomorrow is back at work.

Rosebag · 08/04/2015 22:00

MI do you mean the food porn or the lack of pjs? Grin

bigTillyMint · 08/04/2015 22:05

Rose, I don't do pj's either. Nor does DH. Who wants to wear trousers in bed?!

Glad you had a good break Addle. Your DS hasn't missed much at the revision sessions if DD's feedback is anything to go by! But she still insists on going inConfused

hattymattie · 09/04/2015 07:30

Hello crepeys - looks like a last beautiful day here but the weather is going to give out over the weekend I think. I'm waiting for DD1 to wake up so we can have a last shopping trip before she heads back to uni tomorrow. I'm going to miss her so much - it's been great fun having her around. She seems to have got over all her teenageness and come out the other side pretty well so far. She has first year exams this term so has worked pretty hard. She told me the night clubs in the town actually close during May.[smile

Enjoy, MrsS!

I don't wear pjs either. These are for lounging (in an alternative silk/pj lounging world...)
