Anyone ghostly white but not bother with fake tan?

I am Irish and have the translucent skin tone instead of a passport to prove it. I'm going to a wedding next week and will be baring my arms. I bloody hate putting on fake tan (the dove glow stuff)...it smells and always leaves me feeling a bit gloopy. Is it acceptable to afflict the other guests with snow blindness?

I think white skin is beautiful.

It's as much racism to find white skin offensive as black.

150 years ago white skin was prized above all else.

DramaAlpaca · 10/03/2015 22:51

I'm the same. I can't stand fake tan so I've learned to rock the pale & interesting look throughout the year.

DH & my DC have the Irish pale translucent skin you describe, I think it's beautiful.

GingerCuddleMonster · 10/03/2015 22:52

yes!

I am another one that has Celtic skin tone, I'd make snow white look like she'd spent 2 weeks sunning herself in middle east. I never apply fake tan, it smells horrid, always makes me look a strange hue of orange and I make a mess of it, so I don't bother.

I'm pale and proud Grin

NotLoveActually · 10/03/2015 22:53

I'm very pale but love having a tan, albeit a light, non creosote one. I've found that the older I get I just can't be bothered though, it's too much hassle. So I just embrace the whiteness and my blue veins look like a road map

mrsmugoo · 10/03/2015 22:54

I don't, it stinks!

CurlyWurlyCake · 10/03/2015 22:54

What about geting your legs out though? I am soo pale, I dread the summer and my pale legs.

NotSoSkinnyNow · 10/03/2015 22:56

Another pale-faced paddy here. I too can't be bothered with the fake tan malarkey. I can never get it right, so would rather go au naturale than risk streaks, wonky creases & elbows, or oompa-loompa-ness (technical termGrin)
Either go for a professional spray, or nothing at all. I'm firmly in the nothing at all camp Smile

seaoflove · 10/03/2015 22:58

I'm very pale and just stopped giving a shit about looking pasty. I'm sure I do look very white in the summer, but I just don't care anymore Grin

tinymeteor · 10/03/2015 23:00

Fake tan my pasty arse. Which is to say, I don't. Tan.

Feck I'm tired. Full sentences me not make good.

choirmumoftwo · 10/03/2015 23:00

I'm not Irish but I am very 'pale and interesting' and embrace it. I'm known for being very low maintenance - think no hair dye, make-up etc. Can't be bothered with fake tan and burn in the sun (I'm sure I'm from Viking stock!). Love the skin you're in and don't hide it under gloop!

GingerCuddleMonster · 10/03/2015 23:00

I get the old milk bottle legs out in the summer, suprisingly because I'm white all over it looks fine. I'm all one tone, it would look weird of I had a brown face and white legs Grin.

ImBrian · 10/03/2015 23:00

I'm very pale, I just embrace the paste. I don't tan and I can't be arsed to stick on the fake stuff.

britishbakeoffblues · 10/03/2015 23:02

I am so white I actually glow. Grin
Can't wear any fake tan as it all goes tango Orange on me, even the really gradual build up stuff.
I wear barely there tights but suck up my whiteness everywhere else.
Just think how youthful we shall look when are old compared to all those white trying to be brown toasted people. Wink

BackforGood · 10/03/2015 23:03

The vast majority of pale skinned people don't bother with fake tan. It really is a very small % of people, from a particular demograph that are daft enough to use it.

StrikesMatches · 10/03/2015 23:03

Thank you all, you have inspired me! The only person I know at the wedding will be DH, so I'll try it out.

I am mostly an off shade of grey/blue most of the year. Faked tanned once aged 11 forgot to wash my hands and the pooey hands jokes followed me for too long for me to ever be able to go near the stuff ever again? Embrace the dayglow White!!

GingerCuddleMonster · 10/03/2015 23:04

you will be fine, enjoy Smile.

Passmethecrisps · 10/03/2015 23:07

I have never wanted to tan my see-through arms. My legs are equally tracing-paperesque but I wear illusion (m&s) tights.

Very very pale is just as lovely as all other skin tones of a touch harder to colour match!

Momagain1 · 10/03/2015 23:08

Is it OK? What an odd question. cosmetics are never compulsory.

Anaffaquine · 11/03/2015 04:13

So pale that from a distance it looked to my friends as though I had bandages on my legs, they are so white.
I never ever fake tan. It feels horrible and smells. I do wear makeup and highlight my hair but I hate the orange look.
When we go abroad, people often remark about how beautiful my DCs and my skin tone is.

AuntieDee · 11/03/2015 04:22

I spend a lot of time outdoors so when I am naked I look like I am wearing a white tshirt and shorts... I couldn't care less :)

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 11/03/2015 04:47

I'm part Indian and got the hair and eye genes but not the skin one...I'm as pale as it gets (albeit apparently with 'yellow' rather than 'pink' skin.

My arms have gradually darkened through the years so they are a different.colour to my legs now. Occasionally when I can be bothered I might apply some wash off stuff just to avoid looking like I've got someone else's legs! I think it's a cheap Rimmel one, need a scrub on.standby though as it does tend to.cling to my hands.

Wouldn't bother if there wasn't such a colour difference, I love being pale!

mathanxiety · 11/03/2015 05:35

I am Irish too and have the Daz blue whiteness to prove it. The rest of my family inherited the 'tanning Irish' gene. Luck of the draw...

I never bother being anything but myself and wear sunscreen all the time.

'Is it OK?' isn't an odd question if you're Irish. Irish people spend an inordinate amount of effort trying to look Spanish or at least they used to in past decades. When I was a teen my friends and I used to burn ourselves to a crisp every time the sun shone in summer. People used to call in sick from work on sunny summer days so they could go out and get themselves all lobster-like, hoping that when they were finished with the pain and the peeling there would be a vestige of beige left behind. There was a hierarchy associated with tan-ability those with the pale, pale skin and red hair were at the bottom and my two sisters were at the top--. I was somewhere in the middle of the bottom of the heap because I had brown hair and pale skin but with freckles. Having no freckles, tannable skin, and blonde hair was the ultimate, but tan plus dark hair and no freckles was really good too.

Hurr1cane · 11/03/2015 05:44

Fake tan smells like cat piss

I have dyed jet black hair.

Very blue eyes

And the palest skin in the world.

Just own it. It is a look like any other. I have learnt to quite like it. Smile

Also it's quite a good comeback when you hear someone spouting racist shit... "I'm more White than you so does that mean I'm better? Ace!"

Hurr1cane · 11/03/2015 05:47

Does anyone know of any very very pale foundation and power though? I buy the palest in tesco and have to colour in my neck and chest as well so I don't look like my face has been tangod
