Anyone ghostly white but not bother with fake tan?

I am Irish and have the translucent skin tone instead of a passport to prove it. I'm going to a wedding next week and will be baring my arms. I bloody hate putting on fake tan (the dove glow stuff)...it smells and always leaves me feeling a bit gloopy. Is it acceptable to afflict the other guests with snow blindness?

I have pale skin & very dark, almost black (natural) hair & I love it. There was a time when I wanted to be tanned like everyone else but realised it's nothing to be ashamed of & I learnt to appreciate it. I now think pale skin is beautiful!
Look at Emma Watson- lovely pale skin & I don't know anyone who doesn't think she's beautiful.

HoldenCaulfield80 · 12/03/2015 08:51

Pale faced and proud here! Someone once asked me I I had a moontan rather than a suntan. Bare those pale arms!

Jackiebrambles · 12/03/2015 08:53

I think its a fashion thing. Years ago paleness was a sign of wealth I think and so was very much sought after.
Now its the other way round because tan is a sign of wealth and expensive holidays! :)
Pale skin ages better though doesn't it??? (may be wishful thinking...)
Maybe because we're obsessive about spf and keeping our pasty selves out of the sun!

Eliza22 · 12/03/2015 08:56

Peaches and cream/porcelain white would be nice. I'm more bloodless with corned beef legs tint. Not so good.

I agree with some posters, fake tan doesn't all smell terrible now. I do it once a week, all year round as frankly, it makes my cellulite look better and I don't look like Gary Oldman in Dracula. (Always a plus)

Eliza22 · 12/03/2015 08:59

Seriously, I am this peaky...

Anyone ghostly white but not bother with fake tan?
wfrances · 12/03/2015 09:06

im so pale,even doctors comment.
my dad has skin cancer ,so im very wary and my skin reacts badly to the sun
i get rashes/blotches.
i would never do fake tan either , it looks naff.

DowntownFunk · 12/03/2015 09:25

Embrace the pale. Very few people, of any skin tone "get away" with fake tan.

squoosh · 12/03/2015 10:41

Makeup counter assistants suggesting you 'warm up' your skin with foundation that's three shades too dark are SO annoying.

I won't look 'warmed up' I'll look like an idiot who's put her makeup on in the dark.

BallsToThat · 12/03/2015 10:45

But aren't any of you that kind of pale that makes people think you're ill? I know I am!

I wear fake tan on my face all year round- just a very light facial one from Clnique. It doesn't even make me look tanned, just warms me up to a kind of ivory colour Grin. If I don't wear it people think I am unwell.

I also have that bumpy weird skin on my upper arms and fake tan virtually eradicates the look of it.

If I had Scarlett Johanssen snow white skin I'd embrace it, but I can't embrace blue legs and ashy arms and a 'have you got the flu?' face, sorry Grin

YesIDidMeanToBeSoRudeActually · 12/03/2015 10:53

Agree paleness comes in and out of fashion. I strongly believe that people will look back on the fashion for deeply tanned, almost orange skin and think correctly it was bizarre and not a good look.

I just realised today that I am still wearing my floor length nightie with a pearl necklace and my remaining hair gathered up on top of my head - I'm consoling myself with the fact I might have been considered very fashionable and attractive in Edwardian (do I mean Edwardian? Victorian?) times. I have actually just had a dose of morphine - all I need is the chaise longue to swoon onto.

I LOVE the "moontan".Our mantra should be "Embrace the moontan" Smile

YesIDidMeanToBeSoRudeActually · 12/03/2015 10:54

Just to clarify, the morphine is legally prescribed btw. That looked bad.

Yes, I can't find any Clinique shades pale enough for me. Very few brands cater for the very pale in fact.

StaircaseAtTheUniversity · 12/03/2015 13:19

It's okay fridge I look mad in fake tan so I won't be doing it!

FrugalFashionista · 12/03/2015 13:20

Very hard to find pale shades on the high street. I've used Revlon Colorstay in Ivory but it's a bit too pink on me. I just need a neutral, dead shade Wink

Lily Lolo Porcelain is spot on, and China Doll too. A friend who is pale too loves Illamasqua.

squoosh · 12/03/2015 13:25

I've found that Revlon Colorstay in Ivory is the best of the of the high street foundations too Frugal. It's still just a smidge too dark for me, but not very noticeably.

I'm tempted to try By Terry's Cover Expert but it isn't cheap!

Trinette · 12/03/2015 13:34

I don't know if I am ghastly white, but being a ginger (well, I really have reddish-brown hair) with blue eyes and freckles, I am certainly very fair. I hate tanning sprays, creams, lotions, etc. and never use them. They always smell strange, even when the packaging advertises "fresh scent" or similar nonsense, and the result is usually too orange and often uneven no matter how much you shave and exfoliate.

No thanks, I'll just be pale and look the way nature intended me to look.

Pasithea · 12/03/2015 13:42

I am blue. It takes a month of sun to go deathly white. I also have just had a dose of legal morphine. It doesn't help makes you paler and dark under the eyes

StrikesMatches · 12/03/2015 13:50

Right so, I've signed up to be a moontan ambassador! I've ordered a floral print dress on a white background, so hopefully the pale arms will just blend in. I'm going to have to go for pale nude tights though. Since I started weight lifting and walloping my shins with a bar bell, they are more violet and green than white.

Sally Hansen stuff is good for special occasion when your pins will be out and need a bit of evening up.

For every day E45 do a nice shimmery body lotion that gives pale pins a nice natural looking radiance.

Lweji · 12/03/2015 14:19

Fake tan is bleurgh.

I do tan a bit in the Summer, but only after a couple of weeks of showing off lovely white skin. :)
And I tend to wear colours that go well with it.

xiaozhu · 12/03/2015 14:22

I am very pale, almost blue. You just have to own it. I think people like Emma Stone look gorgeous and you can wear so many different colours when you're pale.

IKnowRight · 12/03/2015 14:28

My legs are so white they practically look blue. They seem to reflect any sunlight, they don't even catch the sun when the rest of me does. I don't get them out in the summer but this is due to heiferness, not paleness.

The rest of me is just your bog standard pale. Eventually the freckles on my arms might join up to make them a bit browner.

The worst thing about my skin tone is how easily I burn in the sun - factor 30 at the first hint of sunshine and factor 50 in the summer for me.

I couldn't care less about the colour tbh. It's a fairly recent thing to be so concerned is it not? I don't remember spending my teenage years / 20's thinking that I looked paler than anyone else, although I do seem to do nowadays.

IKnowRight · 12/03/2015 14:31

yy to being wary of skin cancer - I had a precancerous growth removed from my arm a few years ago.

Trouble is, now I have a vit D deficiency as I am so bloody careful

Hey ho.

minipie · 12/03/2015 14:33

I'm pretty pale, but not quite moontan level. I don't use fake tan, but I do look a lot better with a bit of a real tan - mainly because I have acne and so can't pull off the porcelain doll look.

For those of you who are uber pale - I've just found that Smashbox makeup goes very pale. Their lightest BB cream was too light for me, which never happens. So it might suit some of you. Good reviews too Smile
