Top to go with long tulle skirt?

flux500 · 07/03/2015 17:45

I have received this skirt today

www.asos.com/mt/www.asos.com/needle-thread/needle-thread-tulle-maxi-skirt/prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=4720648&clr=Cream&SearchQuery=tulle+skirt&un_jtt_v_frompage=0&pge=1&pgesize=50&totalstyle=23

this is for a wedding.

Can anyone recommend any ok the tops? also I kind of blew the budget on the skirt so something not too £££ would be ideal. do you think the vest top that is matched with it on asos? I like that it is shiny compared to the matte of the skirt.

any advice or help appreciated Smile

It's a lovely skirt, but you'll need a contrasting top to avoid looking too "bridal", I think.

flux500 · 07/03/2015 18:04

agree @lamilly that's my worry. In real life the skirt is less cream and more ecru if you can imagine that.

Maybe the metallic would be a good way to go then as it's very un-bridey?

Not clear if you are the bride or a guest?

flux500 · 07/03/2015 18:05

@lammily sorry spelt your name wrong Smile

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/03/2015 18:07

Honestly? If you're not the bride, I don't think you should wear that skirt to a wedding.

flux500 · 07/03/2015 18:07

@snog I'm a guest Smile do you think it's too bridal? Blush

You'll be known as the guest who came dressed as the bride!! Shock Grin

RitaOrange · 07/03/2015 18:17

Oh crikey-the bride will be peed off!

flux500 · 07/03/2015 18:17

Oh bugger. I really hoped I could pull it off by wearing like a dark top and I've seen that look out and about (with a little fitted leather jacket) and it did not occur that it was bridal. what if I got the shorter skirt??

flux500 · 07/03/2015 18:20

bit of background on the wedding the bride is late 50s and it's a very posh affair all black tie etc.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/03/2015 18:21

Nope, still not okay.

WerewolfBarMitzvah · 07/03/2015 18:24

Gorgeous, but too bridal imo.

oliviafrombolivia · 07/03/2015 18:29

I like it with the metallic vest top as styled.. with a sequin jacket or something? I think if you purposely clash it - it will be great. Also for another occasion the idea of a leather jacket, lovely.

Trills · 07/03/2015 18:32

I think it would be fine with a bright or dark top.

The top half of your outfit is the bit that people see when you are sat down, and the bit that is in eyeline when people talk to you.

Slongette · 07/03/2015 18:35

I'd team it with a brand new, short sleeved tight fitting black t-shirt and accessorise with a big chunky necklace.

And maybe a black jacket with scrunched up sleeves - or even a leather jacket

No chance of looking bridal then

flux500 · 07/03/2015 18:37

Thanks @olivia and @trills I do definately intend to clash it and the sequinned jacket is a great idea or even a little fitted black cropped jacket?

OP posts:
flux500 · 07/03/2015 18:40

Good idea @slongette I'm even thinking a sequinned black t shirt if such a thing exists? There is also quite a few open backed tank style tops around that are around that are tailored and might look good?

DressingGownFrown · 07/03/2015 18:43

No idea what to pair it with (though I think its lovely)
But just wanted to say, that I'm getting married next year and wouldn't mind at all if you wore it and I'm a 'young' bride - though I'm not a bridezilla (I hope).

oliviafrombolivia · 07/03/2015 18:49

have seen tulle skirts styled with a grey marl t-shirts and sweatshirts, which have looked great, but prob not dressy enough for a wedding. As long as you don't wear a veil and carry a bouquet you'll be OK I think..

AmberNectarine · 07/03/2015 18:54

Jesus, I'm normally a bit Hmm at all the fuss over what you can and can't wear to a wedding but even I'd draw the line at that!

Slongette · 07/03/2015 18:57

I like this top

www.asos.com/Warehouse/Warehouse-Sequin-Tinsel-Top

CharlieSierra · 07/03/2015 18:57

It would be in poor taste to wear long ivory tulle to someone else's wedding, however edgily you think you've styled it imo, not ok.

flux500 · 07/03/2015 19:02

@dressinggown thank you so much for posting Smile I feel a lot better now about the skirt now but will note to make sure my top is anti - bride just incase!

OP posts:
RitaOrange · 07/03/2015 19:10

Noooooooo!
Please don't wear it- its lovely but too bridal.
What if the bride is wearing ivory tulle?

TSSDNCOP · 07/03/2015 19:16

I think it's fine given the bride is 50. Google queens shell on the Coast website, there's black and navy that'd go with it.
