Please give me your honest opinions on my hair. I simply cannot decide if it is a bit "meh" or OK. Or am I just not seeing it in it's true wondrous beauty - it is actually stunning and I cannot see it ? Is it aging? Naff? A bit dry looking? Please please give me you first thoughts.

I have an appointment booked for Friday and I am going to give the (new to be but v experienced and highly recommended) stylist free reign. I kind of suit short hair (OK face shape/cheekbones/skin) Happy to go cropped. I just want something a bit...edgier? Less mumsy? Funky? Wild? Exciting?

My main motivator at the moment is to stop the constant dying - the colour you see it fake - am about 70% grey/white at the front/parting and about 30% the rest. Roots not showing that much in the pic as I have painted them with a grey-cover-sticky-things - but there is about 3/4 of an inch there. I would love to say greyed prematurely..Grin) - but am 42. So there is a strong temptation to just buzz cut it and then grow it out.

I was, at the end of last year, planning on growing longer - but I think I would be better off doing that once the dye has gone. Also the reason I was going to grow it longer was to be able to put it up...as it suits me better....er...so....maybe I should just cut it off.

Arggghhh.... I have spent hours on pinterest. I am bored of trying to decide.

What do I dooooooooo Help me. me? midlife crisis...not me

ChopOrNot · 11/02/2016 19:55

This is me nearly a year on. Barely any makeup on, rubbish lighting and a stonker of a cold. Still, I think I look better than the before photo Smile

Does it make me look older than 44? Meh. Who cares. well maybe I do a bit

I remember your thread from last year! This is my favourite style of yours, looks lovely (though I thought you looked fab with the short cut) and you really suit your curls. :)

WhatamessIgotinto · 11/02/2016 23:43

Ah I love your current look, you look lovely and much younger than 44.

ThoughtfulPenny · 12/02/2016 00:03

You look fab! Much better than the before photos! You didn't stick with the grey?

GingerLDN · 12/02/2016 01:07

I like it :) really suits you

ChopOrNot · 15/02/2016 15:32

Thoughtful yep - did stick with grey - but is much more white streaks on steely grey/origional brown. So doesn't look/isn't full block grey iyswim - well, depends on the angle really. A few "Yes you really are grey" photos to show what I mean. Excuse the scraped back hair, wrinkly forehead and odd expression - am still pants at selfies.

(I may be delusional or biased but actually think is really pretty how it has turned out - colour wise)

You're so pretty! Think you'd probably look lovely with any hairstyle. Or indeed, no hair at all. But I like today's pic a lot.

ChopOrNot · 28/06/2016 21:14

A photo without makeup, in my PJs. 18ish months on. Very, very glad I have embraced the grey. It is not as grey as I thought but so much better than the dye.

Well I like the curls and am wearing mine in a similar style at the moment. ( I'm not wild about the ringlets) I feel your pain re being bored as I'm going through the same thing. I was reading an article about going platinum and was really yearning to make a dramatic statement but felt I couldn't afford the upkeep. I would be tempted to discuss the issue with the hairdresser but see how she does your hair before letting her hack it off. There are a number of colour options that would be cooler and might give you the edge that you want. That pale grey ( almost lilac) looks good right now ( although maybe not with the curls) and it would give you the chance to see yourself with that type of colour and perhaps help you grow out your current colour less painfully. I personally wouldn't go for blonde highlights ( they're boring) and I'm speaking as a person with blonde highlights! Eugh! I'm so bored of myself.

SpiritedLondon · 28/06/2016 23:57

Oh shit! How did I miss all that? Ha ha. I like it back off your face with the make up. Maybe you could embrace a Caitlin Moran streak!

airedailleurs · 09/09/2016 20:34

watching with interest, how funny, I had saved that Bunny photo on pinterest too and am growing out my fringe in order to have that exact cut! I have similar hair to you OP, maybe a bit less curly, but think that cut would suit you too, the parting further over to the side would definitely be more flattering for you.

ChopOrNot · 21/08/2017 17:52

I know it is ages ago now - but just a quick update. Still grey. Still curly. And totally glad I did it.

Wink

Sorry if it's been said, I've not rtwt , but reclaim your curls, look into Curly Girl Method.

littlebillie · 21/08/2017 18:06

I have curls and I think the grey with white looks great I prefer curls to going a bland shade. Dye will kill your curls

littlebillie · 21/08/2017 18:07

Interesting I'm starting to look too pale for my natural colour

Scabetty · 21/08/2017 18:26

Wow! You look stunning. Your eyes are so blue.

DameDoom · 21/08/2017 20:53

Your grey looks fabulous - really chic and elegant. You've given me the impetus to endure the in between stage. You really do look beautiful.

thekittensmittens76 · 21/08/2017 21:02

Wow OP, you look amazing! I love your grey hair.

SummerRoberts · 21/08/2017 21:10

My first thought was wow! If those are your natural curls then I'm very jealous! They're lovely. I really like your hair.

GhostCurry · 21/08/2017 21:12

I love how you have kept everyone updated. Gosh, you look lovely.

TheWorldIsMyCakePop · 21/08/2017 21:23

You look amazing!

I stopped using dye about 3 years ago while I only have a few hair starting to come through as I just cannot be doing with the constant hassle of upkeep. I'm 36 now and it's getting a bit more noticeable, but hey ho!

ChopOrNot · 15/01/2019 21:32

Slightly Tipsy Tuesday. Using up the last of the Christmas Cheese and Port. Ignoring the hell that is going the country. A few years on. Fuck, nearly 4 years on now. I am now 47. Do I look older grey? Don't know. Don't care. (pissed talking though)

So here I am now. I need a haircut. Probs. But OMG soooo glad I ditched the dye. No more 3 weekly hair-dye. No blorange. No roots. No stress. I occasionally need a haircut. But the "I need a haircut" panic is sooooo low down compared to the "shit, my roots are showing" panic.

If you are thinking of doing it I can 100% recommend it.

Attached is (from today) my DD's fav picture of me (white background) and DH's fav pic from today.

Yes the grey really suits you. I've been wrestling with the dilemma myself for some time. I did very temporarily grow mine out, and although I don't have alot of grey it aged me.
I've finally come to the conclusion that grey is great if it suits one, if not best to colour. I would love not to colour but will have to carry on for the time being.
Also not to get fixed ideas about style/colour as one changes to go with it. The only downside is growing out.
I noticed a new thread about wigs which is a good idea if a person likes to change style often. BUT I tend to think I would feel bad about doing it because some people have to wear one.

Rocknroller85 · 16/01/2019 04:05

Engaged - I wouldn’t feel bad about it. The more people who wear them would surely make it easier for people who have to wear them feel more comfortable doing so. OP - wow you’ve not aged at all! You may actually look younger now! You really suit it grey.
