So what do we make of this year's selection? www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2958930/Giuliana-Rancic-Kelly-Osbourne-kick-red-carpet-Academy-Awards-dramatic-looks.html ?

I really like Jamie King and Rosamund Pike. I'm not a big fan of Lady Gaga's and was disappointed in Juilianne Moore's dress as she usually looks great.

Like Reese Witherspoon's dress a lot, very simple and unfussy. Felicity Jones' dress lovely except for that high neckline.

Marion Cotillard looked amazing, so beautiful and stylish.

BunnyLebowski · 23/02/2015 09:32

I bloody love Marion Cotillard but, as usual, I didn't get her dress.

Shapeless and unflattering and looked like it was made from those bath mats with the suckers all over them.

And the weird black bunched bit behind her knees?? Confused Confused Confused

Gunpowder · 23/02/2015 09:39

Yes what was with Sienna's Real Housewifes makeup? She normally looks gorgeous and dewy.

ISpeakJive · 23/02/2015 09:42

I must be the only one who loved goid old Gwyneths dress!

Think it's because that colour is very 'in' at the moment!

ISpeakJive · 23/02/2015 09:43

I also think Oprah looked fab!!

squoosh · 23/02/2015 10:37

Hmmmm not a great year for Oscar fashion. So many beige dresses.

I think my favourites are Anna Faris and Hannah Bagshawe (Eddie Redmayne's wife)

Margot Robbie is a bit of a bombshell isn't she?

BunnyLebowski · 23/02/2015 10:45

Laura Dern looked amazing. She's one classy broad.

BunnyLebowski · 23/02/2015 10:46

She is squoosh. She's far from Donna from Neighbours now Grin .

Apatite1 · 23/02/2015 11:00

I loved the pearl concoction of Lupita's dress. It looked amazing with her skin tone. I liked Rosamund Pike, Dakota Johnson, Oprah, Emma stone, Felicity Jones, Laura Dern and Cate Blanchett.

Everything else was meh. No major disasters though.

squoosh · 23/02/2015 11:03

Laura Dern looks fab, a bit medieval meets sci-fi.

LakeAmber · 23/02/2015 11:06

Favourite is Emma Stone in the green dress - amazing colour on her and she looked really happy, confident and kick-ass.

Loved Julianne Moore's dress - classic, elegant but with a bit of extra style. I love it when the winner has a dress to match!

Lupita's was lovely but not as stunning as last year's.

Cate Blanchett, beautiful example of black but not boring. The woman's a red carpet genius.

Felicity Jones looked amazing in that grey/nude high collar dress, many people wouldn't but it really worked with her skin and sweet face/cool hair.

Cotillard, I don't know, daft dress on paper but I kind of liked it on her, she always looks like she enjoys wearing a slightly off-the-wall creation and I bet she would be fun to sit next to.

The men were kind of boring this year though I liked JK Simmons' hat.

Actually really liked Keira Knightley's maternity dress - she's really going for it with the bump-dressing.

squoosh · 23/02/2015 11:10

I quite like Keira's maternity dress too. It was fun, not 'fun' in a Su Pollard way though!

Thurlow · 23/02/2015 11:14

Sienna Miller's contouring is bizarre but I really liked her dress, something about the neckline I think.

Dakota Fanning's dress was fantastic on her. I like the ponytail too - it really suits her face shape.

I have no idea why all the blogs are going on about Scarlett Johansson's dress. The dress is meh, the necklace is absolutely hideous. Looked like something you'd have bought from TopShop in 1997 when you were 16.

LakeAmber · 23/02/2015 11:18

Agree Thurlow I think Scarlett J's outfit looked a bit cheap - prioritising va va voom over style IMO (though they can go together). Colour not great for her, it should have been either much darker or brighter.

Nancy66 · 23/02/2015 11:44

Agree that it was a really disappointing year for fashion.

Rosamund pike looked the best I would say.

Felicity Jones should sack her stylist

squoosh · 23/02/2015 12:08

Felicity Jones' dress was quite matronly and made her hips look so wide. I think the best dressed man of the night was David Oyelowo although I think a tie would have looked better than a bow tie.

mmack · 23/02/2015 12:19

I saw Ava DuVernay on two worst dressed lists but I thought she looked fantastic. Her dress was a lovely colour and the sleeves gave it a really good silhouette. Her makeup was very flattering too.

cathyandclaire · 23/02/2015 12:24

Not the most exciting fashion this year.
I loved Rosamund Pike, just stunning and thought Eddie Redmayne's wife dress was beautiful. Not sure about Felicity Jones, she looked gorgeous but a little uncomfortable and seemed to have to hold her shoulders up to stop choking on the high neck/prevent the bodice giving her armpit vagina.
Liked Sienna's dress but all that dancing in Cabaret has sharpened her cheekbones to scary levels.
I also liked Julianne and Reese, both simple and elegant and Laura Dern, although I saw her in the worst dressed lists as apparently looking like a medieval knight!

squoosh · 23/02/2015 12:28

The main problem I think with Ava DuVernay's dress is that she's just too bosomy for it. It gives her a Nora Batty style mono-boob. It would work better on someone with smaller breasts.

Nancy66 · 23/02/2015 12:30

I agree she's too busty to carry that off - she needs a lower neckline. it's a lovely colour though.

Rosamund Pike always looks a bit mad to me. The sort that's always crying in the loos at work.

BOFster · 23/02/2015 13:06

The only thing off about Rosamund Pike's look was the complete lack of jewellery- it would have been set off so nicely with a discreet diamind bracelet or earrings. As it was, she looked like she'd forgotten that bit, or had ended up on some kind of borrowing blacklist for getting the last lot back late.

LakeAmber · 23/02/2015 13:11

I like the bodice of Rosamund Pike's and the great colour, but the huge slit was overkill. Rofl at her being the type to cry in the toilets! I warm to those types of people though.

katienana · 23/02/2015 13:24

not keen on felicity Jones, think she is too petite and young for that dress. keira looked washed out and too casual. loved rosamund pike, I think Amy Dunne picked her dress! I liked Sienna's simple black dress. scarlett looked retro in a bad way. laura dern looked amazing, also agree Sophie Hunter looked beautiful.

ClaudetteWyms · 23/02/2015 14:15

I think Dakota Johnson looked amazing, I have a bit of a crush on her (won't be seeing 50SOG though). She is beautiful and always looks effortless, plus the dress is reasonably simple and really suits her.

Most dresses were a bit meh IMVHO, and I think it's all looking a bit tired and same old, and too in thrall to the fashion industry. Would like to see a change from the long OTT frocks and cattle-market parading.

Having said that, and in the interests of gender equality, Idris Elba was of course looking way hot Wink
