Yes I agree (we got married end of Nov) and it was lovely - all dark red flowers and cranberry scented candles.

We like MMS had a civil ceremony and reception etc all in the same place (and the same day as her too!). Guests didn't have far to travel either in case of snow/blocked roads.

It's nice having an ann in winter as if you can afford to go away (talking pre kids here) you can go somewhere far away and hot to escape the dreary winter weather - and it's a great pick me up!

It honestly was the best day of my life and just how I'd imagined it to be - so pleased I went for winter (there were a few mutterings from some of my so called friends about it being near xmas and being strapped for cash etc!)

I think winter weddings are the best!

You'll just have to get married again then!

KellyKrueger1978 · 24/10/2006 17:11

thanks for posting hm, those pics are gorgeous. I loved the cake too!

Skyler · 24/10/2006 17:16

We got married in Jan for no other reasons than DH's work commitments (he is in the Forces). Have to say it was perfect though. Church all lit with candles, ivy and holly and berries all around and bridesmaids in dark green with red wraps and me with fabulous red cape (not shapeless IMO). Great photos taken outside although have to say bridesmaids were freezing!

howlidaymum · 24/10/2006 18:25

yep but I was a bridesmaid for an April wedding once and it snowed! No weather guarantees in the UK

wheelybug · 24/10/2006 18:37

we have just been invited to a wedding in January in Sweden. My immediate thought - was what a strange time to get married - v. cold and v. dark. When I thought about it I thought how nice it could be snow, cosy, gorgeous candle light etc....

Just have to decide now if we're going and more importantly, what am i going to wear ?? !!

Skyler · 24/10/2006 19:12

Your pics......or at least did see them and then got called away to do dinner blah blah before posting

CastsSpellsWitchySpells · 24/10/2006 19:15

We got married 9th December. Just the right time to have a lovely honeymoon in the Maldives and get back in time for Christmas.

We had mulled wine at the reception too - went down very well, much to the surprise of mil, who had insisted that all of her friends would prefer bucks fizz!

Skyler · 24/10/2006 22:14

We had mulled wine and I managed to get a glass with drips on the bottom that dripped all down my dress . Was yummy though and warmed everyone up nicely.

howlidaymum · 25/10/2006 11:53

yes I don't think my mil got our wedding either! It wasn't traditional enough for her and a bride in red too!
She had a sour look on her face the whole day!

madmarchscare · 25/10/2006 11:56

Yes, I think a few of DHs family were a bit at my dress. Ha ha.

howlidaymum · 25/10/2006 11:59

It wasn't as if I could even pretend to be virginal with 2 kids and he has one too so he wasn't chaste either!
Also we wrote the vows to include the kids as part of our new family which i think she thought weird, kids loved it though!

CastsSpellsWitchySpells · 25/10/2006 13:02

I couldn't get the link to your photos to work howlidaymum - have you removed them?

I looked at a red dress, but decided that as I was only getting married once, it would have to be the traditional white/ivory. I did have a lovely warm green velvet cape thing though.

You can see it here , and there's one of us in front of a Christmas tree at the reception here .

Smurfgirl · 25/10/2006 13:03

Mine will be 11th October, nice and crisp I hope, there has been some beautiful light around that time of year this year so I am hopeful.

Would hate a hot sticky August wedding.

Sunnysideup · 25/10/2006 13:53

wow, Witchyspells, you looked gorgeous!

Love the dress, and the cape, and the flowers - loved it all actually!

I like your style

howlidaymum · 25/10/2006 14:28

lovely witchy! put mine back up again.

CastsSpellsWitchySpells · 25/10/2006 16:00

Oh yes, the colour really does suit you hm. And lol at the snowman bride and groom!

I just wished I still looked half as good as I did on my wedding day!

lucykate · 25/10/2006 16:41

tis our wedding anniversary............

today! , 9 years.

we thought of it more as an autumn wedding that winter.
