a winter wedding would only really be nice if there was a beautiful snowy background though. I wouldn't fancy pictures set against grey drizzle!
I want to get married abroad personally, a beach in thailand...

Orlando · 24/10/2006 12:16

bozza. Am always v jealous of people who do nice romantic things for their anniversary. We're always so skint at Xmas so going out for a meal or anything is about as outrageously extravagant as jetting off to the Maldives for a fortnight.

madmarchscare · 24/10/2006 12:18

Nov 30th @4pm for us. We had a civil ceremony and the reception all in the same hotel. Guests in black tie, candles etc... It was truly fab and would do the same thing again.

howlidaymum · 24/10/2006 12:20

I had a December wedding and it was fab! I wore a long red silk gown with long sleeves, bridesmaids wore a damson/mulberry velvet dress with cream cardigans to keep them warm. I had winter greenery in my bouquet with blue spruce, ivy and calla lillies.

The venue was a national trust place and was decorated in edwardian christmas greenery, big trees holly and ivy everywhere. We had a huge candelabra all lit above us.

We gave the guests warm spiced cider (apple juice for the kids) and had a christmas lunch as the meal. It was perfect and so romantic!

How many years ago howlidaymum?

colette · 24/10/2006 12:29

We got married on 28th December - I worried about freezing but we didn't notice the cold. It was a really bright crisp day and dd wore a deep red velvet dress ( m and s xmas special)
Lovely candlelit pictures of reception. Would highly reccommend it

howlidaymum · 24/10/2006 12:37

3 years this dec! Had our kids as bridesmaids/page. Tying to upload some pics. Also had acake with a snowman/woman bride and groom.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 24/10/2006 12:41

i got married 20th december 2003 - it was wet and cold and yuk outside, but the day was fab. the xmas red bridemaid dress and the gold tiara and jewellery and DH in a kilt - it was FABBO

Would do it all again tomorrow if i could......

howlidaymum · 24/10/2006 12:48

Orlando · 24/10/2006 12:50

GORGEOUS!

howlidaymum · 24/10/2006 13:25

Ta!

norkmaiden · 24/10/2006 13:36

oooh great dress and gorgeous flowers HM!

Another (late) summer wedding here but agree winter do v glam! Dunno why we didn't even consider it (plus lots of venues etc cheaper than in summer wedding season).

NOMurDErousPLUME · 24/10/2006 13:44

howlidaymum, that colour is gorgeous on you

howlidaymum · 24/10/2006 14:20

Thanks! It wouldn't have worked in summer at all. I agree winter weddings are cheaper too. We chose December because its the quietist time at work for me also weather and prices in the caribbean are good so excellent for honeymoon!

caffeinequeen · 24/10/2006 14:29

We chose a winter wedding as summer weddings come in groups and I didn't want anyone to get to the Thursday evening beforehand and think "oh ffs we've got another bloody wedding this weekend - who is it THIS week? Oh yes, caffeine and mr caffeine." which tbh is how I'd felt the year before we got engaged, 4 in 6 weeks or something.
Got married early March and everyone was really looking forward to it.
And it was of course, tres chic.

You're absolutely right, Malory. But, in the selfishness of youth we didn't give such matters a moment's thought. (had photos inside in great baronial hall type setup-- tbh if doing it again I wouldn't bother with photos at all).

If we were invited to a wedding the weekend before xmas now I'd be outraged. Our relatives must have HATED us (especially given the distance they all had to come!)

howlidaymum · 24/10/2006 15:14

It was cold, but was wearing long sleeves plus the cloaks you get are ace! Also for the outdor pics everyone had their hot spiced cider to keep them warm and we kept the outdoor pics to a minimum. So really it made no difference. WE were lucky to get one of those lovely clear crisp sunny icy days though.

DelGhoul · 24/10/2006 15:17

I had a winter wedding, December 17th to be precise. I had a christmassy bouquet and wore deep red velvet . Twas lovely!

northerner · 24/10/2006 15:22

PMSL at Cod not liking thought of having wedd ann in winter. WTF?

I remeber when I was younger seeing pics of christie brinkly's wedding in the snow. She lloked lovely. I wanted to be her.

Says she with an August wedding!

Gillian76 · 24/10/2006 15:28

Yes I was a bit confused at the anniversary thing...

Romantic def, but we had ours in July

howlidaymum · 24/10/2006 15:31

Our wedding anniversary usually coincides with my works conference but that is a good thing!

We (hubby too) are generally taken to a lovely 5 star hotel often somewhere warm and have the best food, entertainment and company you could imagine.

It feels like they are throwing a big party for us every year!

madmarchscare · 24/10/2006 15:34
