Do any ladies have designer bags?

Do you dress better if you're using it and what sort of things do you wear?

OP posts:
dexter73 · 29/01/2015 20:30

I have a cheaper end designer bag from Coach. It gets worn with everything as I use it everyday.

GutsyMcMuffin · 29/01/2015 20:32

I have a few designer bags and some high street ones, it doesn't affect how I dress.

Itwontletmenamechange · 29/01/2015 20:33

Nope. Dress as normal depending on what I'm doing. Although one I keep primarily as a work bag so mostly looking smart ish.

squizita · 29/01/2015 20:38

No.
People always look at the bag and shoes.
Charity shop clothes become "hipster" or "vintage" with the right bag. Wink Band t shirt and mini skirt "edgy" not "she's not an effing student anymore" with the right boots.

Also dress agencies, Bicester Village and TK Maxx Gold Label mean I never pay full price.

Twinklestein · 29/01/2015 20:48

I used to have lots and then I figured I could be funding an African village.
I have two a year now, makes no difference to what I wear.

Manyproblemsinthishouse · 29/01/2015 20:53

I wear my jimmy choo bag as a changing bag! My LV one only for special occasions and have a micheal kors bags I used to wear to work! God you wouldn't believe how broke I am from the sound of that..

BallroomWithNoBalls · 29/01/2015 22:20

Yep I only ever use designer bags despite my wardrobe being 99% high st. I don't buy often though and only in sales at 50% off or so.

I have a few which I rotate depending on season and what I'm doing, and sell any I'm not wearing to fund more

Current haul includes Celine, Michael Kors, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Botkier, Mulberry. Recently sold a Miu Miu.

christmaspies · 29/01/2015 22:33

I only buy desighner bags

mowglik · 29/01/2015 23:51

I only wear my Chanel bag when very dressed up for an occasion and sans toddler.. Am thinking I need to make use out of it and brave it more day to day as I have used the bag a grand total of twice since I got it a few months ago!
It is quite a dressy bag though, I do have an Alexander wang bucket bag which is much more casual and I wear with jeans etc so I guess it depends more on the style of the bag

NickiFury · 29/01/2015 23:53

I have two Mulberry bags. One is for every day and one is for going out. I probably do make a bit more of an effort to dress nicely but not excessively so.

Redglitter · 29/01/2015 23:59

I use my LV bag all the time. It goes to work & everywhere

Sone cheeky cow said it was a great looking fake!!!! Angry

Apatite1 · 30/01/2015 09:46

Lots of mulberry, also prada, lanvin, anya hindmarch, coach, alexander McQueen, fendi, judith Leiber, sophie hulme, tory burch etc etc. plus loads of high St like LK bennet, toast, mimi berry. Looking for more classic investment (not a real investment) pieces like chanel, lv, celine etc now.

I dont count myself as a huge bag lover, but that sounds like a lot already, and I obviously have declared intent for more! Blush

SteveBrucesNose · 30/01/2015 09:48

I'm currently rocking my Prada bag with trackie bottoms, a golf t shirt and flip flops. With a dog poo bag holder on the strap of my bag, because I have no loops on the trackies.

My bags are for using as bags. I only buy good bags, so if I dressed to match the bag Id need a whole new wardrobe.

MsMcWoodle · 30/01/2015 14:27

I have some mulberrys. The rest of my clothes are cheap and i hope that the bags make up for it. Normally wear skinnys and boots or converse and charity shop jackets.

Ememem84 · 30/01/2015 14:49

I have 2 mulberrys. and I wear them with and for everything. They were bought to be used. so I use them. One is an oxblood red colour, the other is a fawn colour. so pretty much go with everything.

AmberNectarine · 30/01/2015 16:09

Erm, yes. I have about 20 from Mulberry, Alexander Wang, Valentino, Gucci, Dior, McQueen, Anya H, Jimmy Choo, Balenciaga etc. I buy a mix of high end and high st. Shoes are mostly designer too - I agree a good bag and shoes can elevate an outfit.

That said, I like fun bags too. My most recent investment has been a lilac shearling bon bon by Charlotte Simone and it cheers up any outfit.

santamarianovella · 30/01/2015 16:55

gingerbread do you mean if the bag becomes the focal point of your outfit? Sometimes it does, but not always, I like to pay attention more on clothes and the bag is just the last thing to add to an outfit,

I love handbags, but I love well made and cut clothes more, because no matter how expensive looking your bag is,it will never look good with ill fitting or cheap looking clothes or shoes.

BallroomWithNoBalls · 30/01/2015 17:19

Took the wind out of lots of sails there santamaria Wink

For many people who can't afford to spend on designer clothes, it's a lovely lift to carry a designer handbag. Even if it is worn with Primark clothes.

squizita · 30/01/2015 17:38

...people are far less likely to notice well fitted high street clothes with a real bag, than designer clothes with a cheap plastic bag.

Really. I've spent time with the kind of stone cold bitches that really notice. Not my friends but aquaintances enough to get a firm grip on what is noticed. I also know some much nicer people whose job it is to notice (fashion industry) ... same advice.
That and always replace the buttons on a high street jacket.

squizita · 30/01/2015 17:44

...With the golden rule CLOTHES MUST FIT. Too tight always looks cheap (unless you're an uber fit "ironic") too baggy it's middle class frump.
You can save thousands just by knowing how to take in and up a few basic seams.

You can't do that with accessories though.

maybemyrtle · 30/01/2015 17:47

squizita Sorry, it's been a long week, do you mean bags or clothes are more likely to be noticed?

MsMcWoodle · 30/01/2015 18:03

Beg to differ there santamaria.
I think a sense of style and a good figure are more important.
And I think I look fab Smile thank you very much. Taught how to dress well but cheaply but my extremely stylish mum.

GingerbreadBaubles · 30/01/2015 18:16

I need help then! I need to dress better, not to show off a bag but so I look well put together. How does a size 14/16 fatty look good when she has no idea what's suits and would rather appear invisible whilst ditching the excess lbs?

OP posts:
squizita · 30/01/2015 18:22

Bags ... provided the high street/charity shop clothes fit perfectly and coordinate well. Smile

santamarianovella · 30/01/2015 18:26

msMc please reread my post I didn't say cheap clothes I said ill fitting & cheap looking clothes Huuuge difference there, it can mean both designer and high street stores,
