New Years Eve House Party - should I wear shoes?

hpickup · 30/12/2014 15:57

Going to a house party tomorrow night. They don't have a shoes off house (although I do), but there will be lots of children there early on.

Is it best to just remove my shoes when I arrive, ( which is what I would prefer) and if so is stockinged feet ok?

OP posts:

I would wear shoes and only take them off if asked to. I would think it odd to see someone with no shoes on at a party.

usualsuspect333 · 30/12/2014 16:00

Just keep your shoes on, why on earth would you take them off?

stitch10yearson · 30/12/2014 16:01

i wouldn't go twice to a persons house if they made me take my shoes off

ElizabethHoover · 30/12/2014 16:02

Wear shoes at a party. Clean obv. None at home

usualsuspect333 · 30/12/2014 16:03

OP said party house is not a 'shoes off house' So I can see no reason for her to take her shoes off.

ElizabethHoover · 30/12/2014 16:03

I wouldn't feel cool or sexxxxxxxay in stockinged feet. And we know feeling sexxxxay is everyone's no 1 preoccupation ;)

expatinscotland · 30/12/2014 16:04

It's a party! Aren't you shoes part of your outfit?

usualsuspect333 · 30/12/2014 16:04

You can't do proper drunk dancing in your socks.

LineRunner · 30/12/2014 16:05

No stilettos on the lino.

Other than that, shoes on.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/12/2014 16:07

I think it is very weird to keep shoes on in the house. Personally I'd take little ballet shoe slippers with me and change into those on arrival. I would be very cross if you arrived at my house and wanted to keep your shoes on.

ElizabethHoover · 30/12/2014 16:08

Remus. Style guru. NO NO
yes at home wear slippers. Not at a party. No one wore bare feet at the ambassadors reception!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/12/2014 16:08

:) I would have!

ElizabethHoover · 30/12/2014 16:08

Have you not had a drinks party at home? Did you really make 20 or 30 people take their shoes off?!

usualsuspect333 · 30/12/2014 16:10

I'd think it was weird if I went to a house party and everyone was in their stockinged feet. I think I'd give it a swevre and go to the pub.

usualsuspect333 · 30/12/2014 16:11

Can you imagine the big pile of shoes in the hall?

LineRunner · 30/12/2014 16:11

I'll be coming with you, usual.

Who wants to stand in the spilled dip and vodka in their tights??

LineRunner · 30/12/2014 16:12

Oh God, and going to the loo....

ElizabethHoover · 30/12/2014 16:12

I'm at one with you again usual. Would be mumsy

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/12/2014 16:12

Our house isn't big enough for more than a dozen or so - and yes, they take their shoes off.

I know nobody else on here agrees with me, but I honestly absolutely hate the idea of shoes being worn in the house. Hey ho.

atticusclaw · 30/12/2014 16:13

If Remus says its stylish to wear slippers at a NYE party then it is. Simple.

Personally we are a shoes off house but I would't expect our guests coming over tomorrow for drinks to take of their shoes.

ElizabethHoover · 30/12/2014 16:13

Sometimes I think I'll be 60 before I stop getting lured into threads about shoes at parties Grin

ItsAllKickingOffPru · 30/12/2014 16:14

Big slippage danger in the kitchen too.

Slippers/ballet shoes would look like you might be planning to stay ages. Or that your regular shoes are just for 'show' as you walk up the path. Both are odd.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/12/2014 16:14

Atticus - Grin I didn't say it was stylish, just what I'd do!

ElizabethHoover · 30/12/2014 16:14

We squeezed 37 into our very average kitchen once. Ah. Happy days. Everyone had toddlers then and looked like death warmed up the next day, pushing kids on swings half dead.

expatinscotland · 30/12/2014 16:17

I'll come with you, usual.
