Any great new foundations out there that I haven't heard of ?

40 yr old here, still get oily areas in the usual places and have some acne scaring on my chin. I'm looking for something with decent coverage that will last all day.

In the past I have used (and mostly not got on with)
Estee Lauder Double Wear - too heavy and aged me, also difficult to blend
Double Wear Light - not as heavy as original formula but still difficult to blend
Lancome Teint Idole - too heavy, dried my skin out
YSL Fusion Foundation - didn't last on my oily bits
Dior Forever - Looked great for about an hour then oxidised and I ended up looking orange.

I've tried primers with all of the above too, I don't seem to get on with primers, skin ends up looking cakey and the foundation kind of separates.

At the moment I'm using Max Factor Facefinity. It's not terrible, actually considering I got it for a tenner it's pretty good, but it doesn't "wow" me. I'm pretty skint but don't mind paying a bit extra for foundation and finding cheaper alternatives for mascara, blusher etc.

I think you should go to various makeup counters and ask them to recommend a foundation for you, then see how it wears for the day. Try Bobbi Brown, MAC, and No. 7 to start (imo, those three lines have some great foundations). You may want to try more than one foundation from a given line, too.

Fabulassie · 27/12/2014 08:04

Regarding primers : There's more than one kind. Have you tried the silicone ones like Smashbox or something with a different base?

I stopped using primer when I got the idea to use loose powder over a shimmering skin perfector by Becca - an idea I got from Gossmakeupartist. He uses some other luminous primer, but I have that Becca skin perfector and I use that. I think it will work to use loose powder over moisturiser, as well. It makes my foundation last all day.

YSL Fusion Ink foundation. Works so well on my combination skin. You can layer it but it never goes cakey. Expensive but so worth it in my view. Ask for a sample or try some at a make up counter so you can check it works for you . Long lasting too!

And if you want a budget alternative, the Tesco range BD Trade Secrets powder foundation is excellent. Recently reformulated and a steal I think . Often on 3 for 2 as well.

SmellyFartado · 27/12/2014 09:11

I was a high end make up user for years. I recently bought Maybelline Super Stay 24 and it's the best foundation I've ever used. Long lasting and great coverage without the need for a primer. Wouldn't buy an overpriced foundation again.

never tried Vitalumiere?

laracroft2001 · 27/12/2014 09:14

Try givenchy éclat mattissme. Lovely finish on oily skin and stays on

ggirl · 27/12/2014 09:17

l'oread true match is good
mac face and body looks great and is buildable for more coverage , lasts all day on my combo skin
ysl touch éclat foundation also good but needs powder to last -I hated the fusion one , looked cake on me

iquitelikethefudge · 27/12/2014 10:02

gonegrey56 thank you for the heads up about the return of the Barbara Daly range. This has made my day Smile I'm going to make a special trip to Tesco today for the Face Lift Moisturiser, I've missed it so much!

Re foundations as per the OP, it's Chanel Vitalumiere mixed with Mac Mineralize here. Now I just need to find that formulation and shade in one product Confused

rosyrose79 · 27/12/2014 10:27

Have you tried dior nude or dior star foundations?

tethersend · 27/12/2014 10:39

Cheapo face powder as a primer, then Clinique even better than make up is the best combo I've found. Good coverage, looks natural and lasts all day.

lurkingaround · 27/12/2014 15:46

I like Chanel Vitalumiere. But I bought Armani luminous silk foundation before Xmas and I really like it. I'm late 40s, and have combination/oily skin. The Armani one lasts better on me.

Truckingalong · 27/12/2014 16:01

Clinique even better is pretty good. My fave though is Boots Botanic BB cream.

frankie80 · 27/12/2014 16:14

My favourite is Clinique anti blemish solutions - great coverage for acne scarred skin.

I've also started using Bare Minerals Bare Skin which is very natural looking although I do find myself needing more than is advised.

PastPerfect · 28/12/2014 05:56

I've given up on finding one foundation - I now use Estée lauder double wear light on chin and nose to give the coverage I need and on the rest of my face boots 7 lift and luminate which blends well.

Fabulassie · 28/12/2014 18:16

I like the Clinique Anti-Redness foundation (I'm not sure exactly what it's called) and I also like YSL Touche Eclat foundation. I also love the Max Factor cream foundation in a little pot/compact... it's perfect for touching up when I'm out. (Gives a full coverage with a velvety finish.)

I have a lot of different foundations!

MrsSchadenfreude · 28/12/2014 18:23

Bare Minerals BareSkin is good. I don't like the usual BM stuff, but this is great!

Philoslothy · 28/12/2014 18:27

I have tried them all and my choice at the moment is lancome teint idole 24hr

XiCi · 28/12/2014 18:32

I wouldn't look any further than Chanel Vitalumiere

Philoslothy · 28/12/2014 18:36

I can use vitalumiere in the summer but it is too dark for my enter skin

Philoslothy · 28/12/2014 18:37

Winter skin

Marylou2 · 28/12/2014 19:36

By Terry Cover Expert.Sometimes I try to convince myself that other products are as good....but they're not!

ARandomFridayIn2012 · 28/12/2014 19:45

Not new, but I rate and use on me and in my kit, NARS Sheer Glow

Wolfiefan · 28/12/2014 19:48

Vitalumiere. Great stuff.
