Any great new foundations out there that I haven't heard of ?

40 yr old here, still get oily areas in the usual places and have some acne scaring on my chin. I'm looking for something with decent coverage that will last all day.

In the past I have used (and mostly not got on with)
Estee Lauder Double Wear - too heavy and aged me, also difficult to blend
Double Wear Light - not as heavy as original formula but still difficult to blend
Lancome Teint Idole - too heavy, dried my skin out
YSL Fusion Foundation - didn't last on my oily bits
Dior Forever - Looked great for about an hour then oxidised and I ended up looking orange.

I've tried primers with all of the above too, I don't seem to get on with primers, skin ends up looking cakey and the foundation kind of separates.

At the moment I'm using Max Factor Facefinity. It's not terrible, actually considering I got it for a tenner it's pretty good, but it doesn't "wow" me. I'm pretty skint but don't mind paying a bit extra for foundation and finding cheaper alternatives for mascara, blusher etc.

I bought Georgio Armani Maestro a year ago and absolutely love it - I'm regularly getting complements on my skin, it blends like a dream and a bottle seems to last forever - I think it part down to it having a pipette dispenser so you can just get out a little - and a little is all you need. And it makes it through my gym sessions - I know I should take it off before but oopsie!

I actually really like Boots No 7 Protect and Perfect foundation. I've gone through two bottles of it in the past 18 months or so. Even though I have tried others, I cant say that any of them have actually been better than it.

The other ones I have tried in the past year:

  1. Benefit Hello Flawless: I guess it's OK. I would maybe like slightly more coverage. It doesn't have the velvety finish I like.

  1. Clinique Redness Solutions: I like this quite a lot. I do have some redness and it seems to work well with it. I don't know if there is really anything to the claims that the ingredients sooth skin. I put moisturiser, Becca skin perfecter and powder on before foundation so I doubt it really does anything for the skin.

  1. Yves St. Laurent Touche Eclat: This is very good. I like the coverage and the finish is very nice. Is it better than No 7? I dunno.

  1. Max Factor Miracle Touch: This stuff is great. It's a cream foundation. It has a very good coverage and has a nice velvety finish. Not sure it wears as well as the liquids (over powder) but it's certainly handy for touching up as you can carry it with you and touch up with a sponge. A friend of mine went to buy Bare Minerals (powdered) at Boots and had the same result I got when I tried it - every pore and line magnified. So I figured she may have similar needs to me and I showed her the Max Factor. She absolutely loves it.

  1. Bare Minerals bareSkin Serum Foundation (liquid): I initially thought this might be great but I don't like how it looks in strong daylight - shows up my fine lines. It really doesn't have the velvety finish I like. I feel a bit of a tit for getting talked into it (and the pricey applicator brush!)

Obviously, everyone has different skin needs. I'm not particularly oily or dry and I get red splotches and I have a pimple or two at all times. I have some fine lines and some pores I wish were smaller. So, I want a good, smooth finish that doesn't show up my pores and lines and that will cover redness and wear well.

Frankly, I depend on powder-before-foundation for ensuring it will wear well and I use concealer and highlight for redness and uneven tone. I don't expect the foundation to do everything at once.

I too have started using a little powder before foundation and the difference this makes is abit of a miracle actually. I never have to touch up in the day now. I just use an old powder I had in a drawere at home, not even a loose powder. I just brush ever so lightly over my nose as have oily nose but dry everywhere else and my makeup lasts all day now.

I typically use MAC face and body although do find that I need abit more coverage in the winter as my roseaca flares up.
Am working my way through some samples at the moment but find Chanel vitalumiere pretty good. Dior Star is abit meh on me (find it drying and ageing). Am going to try Loreal true match next I think.

A few high end suggestions there so I will be scouring the make up counters for samples me thinks.

I actually picked up the new revamped Rimmel 25 hr foundation (with "comfort serum" would you believe) and it actually really impressed me yesterday. An absolute bloody bargain at only a fiver. Did the loose powder UNDER foundation trick and it stayed on pretty well all day. Didn't separate on my face or "curdle" and only had to blot a couple of times. Will try it for a week or so before I decide for definite.

Bare Minerals BareSkin is good. I don't like the usual BM stuff, but this is great!

I like the Clinique Anti-Redness foundation (I'm not sure exactly what it's called) and I also like YSL Touche Eclat foundation. I also love the Max Factor cream foundation in a little pot/compact... it's perfect for touching up when I'm out. (Gives a full coverage with a velvety finish.)

I have a lot of different foundations!

I've given up on finding one foundation - I now use Estée lauder double wear light on chin and nose to give the coverage I need and on the rest of my face boots 7 lift and luminate which blends well.

My favourite is Clinique anti blemish solutions - great coverage for acne scarred skin.

I've also started using Bare Minerals Bare Skin which is very natural looking although I do find myself needing more than is advised.

Clinique even better is pretty good. My fave though is Boots Botanic BB cream.

I like Chanel Vitalumiere. But I bought Armani luminous silk foundation before Xmas and I really like it. I'm late 40s, and have combination/oily skin. The Armani one lasts better on me.

Cheapo face powder as a primer, then Clinique even better than make up is the best combo I've found. Good coverage, looks natural and lasts all day.

gonegrey56 thank you for the heads up about the return of the Barbara Daly range. This has made my day Smile I'm going to make a special trip to Tesco today for the Face Lift Moisturiser, I've missed it so much!

Re foundations as per the OP, it's Chanel Vitalumiere mixed with Mac Mineralize here. Now I just need to find that formulation and shade in one product Confused

I was a high end make up user for years. I recently bought Maybelline Super Stay 24 and it's the best foundation I've ever used. Long lasting and great coverage without the need for a primer. Wouldn't buy an overpriced foundation again.
