Top emergency.....I haven't been on a night out in 2 years and need a top for work night out

I haven't had a night out for 2 years, but have committed to a work meal next week which I am now dreading. I only have work/office clothing and despite trawling online tonight I can't find anything I like. I had a look in town but got intimidated fed up. I think I've lost all a bit of body confidence since ds. My co workers are tall, slim, young and yet to have dc.

I'm 14-16, early forties, curvy with bingo wings. I would like a top I can wear with black trousers or skinny jeans, long sleeved, I like floaty or fitted, round or v necks, my favoutite top is from phase 8.

I tend to go for black so I can blend in but would like a splash of colour or sparkle. I need it by weds! Anyone got any ideas or suggestion? feeling bit pathetic and thinking of cancelling

Would you consider a dress, maybe something like this...

black dress

With black opaques and black ankle boots/heels? It has a bit of sparkle but not too revealing.

cakebaby · 13/12/2014 21:02

Oh thank you bean that's nice, I'll have to pop in and try it! I shy away from things that aren't fitted usually as I feel like I've got maternity wear on! Time to break the mold perhaps?

Perhaps try a sheer shirt? H&M have a few and I bought a lovely one in Asda the other day!

cakebaby · 13/12/2014 21:19

I have a few with sheer arms for work but always feel a bit mutton. I think its so long since I've bought 'going out' clothes I've lost track of what's popular Xmas Blush

I would go with what you are comfortable in. Skinny jeans, silky black blouse, shoe boots. Big necklace and get you hair blow dried before you go out. Have a great night.

cakebaby · 13/12/2014 21:28

Hmmm, always forget the value of accessories, great point blanket

right OP
they will only see you neck up at a table
i want you in plain black head to toe - slim jeans or trews and then plain black top.

THEN get your hair done quickly and get some AMAZING earrings or a necklace

plus shoes that rock

NoelleHawthorne · 13/12/2014 21:33

i have these www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ZARA-WOMAN-BLACK-LEATHER-COURT-HEELS-WITH-STUDDED-CAP-TOE-UK7-EU40-/271671389519?pt=UK_Women_s_Shoes&hash=item3f40e06d4f that always look mega with plain black or I got these the other day that are reduced and super comfy

NoelleHawthorne · 13/12/2014 21:35

i have this in black here www.zara.com/uk/en/woman/premium/silk/silk-shirt-c677501p1985124.html

or a cheaper non silk one from new look - suggestively open is the way to go

cakebaby · 13/12/2014 21:36

Love the Zara top! So pretty.

Hair blow dry a must, will have an hour to kill.....

Necklace OR earrings, yes?

OP posts:
cakebaby · 13/12/2014 21:38

Love the Zara shoes but not sure silk shirt would suit my colouring albeit like the style

Thank you ladies Xmas Smile

NoelleHawthorne · 13/12/2014 21:42

oh no - i have the black silk shirt , agree the other one is vile.

the zara shoes are just an idea for some kind of shoes that your colleagues will say "' ooh get her' kind of thing. Not to write you off as a mum :)

m.houseoffraser.co.uk/Armani+Jeans+Short+sleeve+top+with+an+embellished+neckline/201677307,default,pd.html

Expensive BUT think about cost per wear. No need for a necklace but big earrings and oversize clutch would look so classy.

BeHoHoHove · 13/12/2014 21:45

What about something like this. glitter cowl

I have it, it's super flattering, much nicer than the photos show it.

NoelleHawthorne · 13/12/2014 21:49

i got this rather average looking top to wear with shiny trews

I like it

cakebaby · 13/12/2014 21:51

Love the armani top & next day delivery just don't use yodel

behoho I fear hugely magnified arse in that top not small at best of times but like the neckline very much

beanandspuds debenhams dress in the 2nd post of the thread is lovely. Me and DD bought it and we've both worn it 2 or 3 times this month already. It is amazingly flattering.

cakebaby · 13/12/2014 21:53

Nice next top too. Some great suggestions here, maybe I will go after all!

NoelleHawthorne · 13/12/2014 21:54

oh do. you cant give up on life at your age!!

cathpip · 13/12/2014 21:57

I'm a fan of Coast, lovely chiffon floaty tops with wide elasticated waist bands that make you look very slim even after a three course meal :), can't do links but have just bought a silver/grey top from there last week, and it does cover the bingo wings!

Blanketontheground · 13/12/2014 21:58

I got measured for a new bra at bravissimo after my last pregnancy and I swear I looked like I had lost a stone! I was looking at my waist thinking ' oh you've been there all the time eh'?

cathpip · 13/12/2014 22:00

Have just checked and it's the vittoria top which comes in red as well as grey in Coast.

cakebaby · 13/12/2014 22:03

Makes note to get new bra (still bf) and check out coast.....

This one cathpip? Love the blue. Dorothy Perkins have some fab blue shoes (not too high).
