DH loves me in this dress

I can see it fits well but it's not at all the sort of thing I normally wear. Too bright and too fitted. It is however, very comfortable. Enough give in it to move easily and thick enough not to be clingy. Do you like it? I'm 5'7", blonde and pale skinned, 45yo and the dress is a 12.

If it made your DH go daft, would you still buy it even if you weren't completely sure yourself?

I have Christmas parties and a wedding evening do coming up. What would you wear with it?

Wow. I wish I had the right sort of figure for that lovely dress. It's no wonder your husband likes you in it.

KnockMeDown · 24/10/2014 22:30

Wow - it is a stunning dress, and if I was a size 12, and your height, and my husband was that keen on me in it, I would be very very happy Grin

Riverland · 24/10/2014 22:32

Kidding, right? Buy it, wear it, have fun!

MrsLettuce · 24/10/2014 22:34

It is fab but if you don't feel right in it then, well, don't do it!

coffeenut · 25/10/2014 01:08

My DH loves me in dresses that are tight, short & generally much brighter and frillier than anything I usually wear so I can sympathise, trust me. My advice is, get the dress and when you wear it keep reminding yourself that he thinks you look really fab!! (also, because its a gorgepus dress, buy something similar in a neutral colour to wear when he wont be attending with you!)

trufflesnout · 25/10/2014 01:37

I wouldn't wear a dress I wasn't comfortable in purely because my DH liked it.

NeedABumChangeNotANameChange · 25/10/2014 01:46

I would normally say wear what you want not what your DH wants you to but buying one dress for him would be really lovely. And I'd imagine you look ace in that at 5 foot 7 I bet your legs are great.
I persuaded my ex to buy this gorgeous winter coat and every time he wore it I went a little doolally, so I can see it from the otherside.

SavoyCabbage · 25/10/2014 02:04

I think it's beautiful. However I wouldn't wear something I didn't want to for my dh.

Chottie · 25/10/2014 04:09

I would wear it. My DP was shopping with me and persuaded me to buy a dress I would not usually wear. I have had so many compliments whenever I wear it.

I have the same colouring as you and I think it is fab.

Calvaise · 25/10/2014 04:37

My DH has an unerring ability to spot gems lurking on the rail that I have overlooked. He'll stand around looking all bored while I try things on and then point at something and say 'you should get that' and it'll be some random item I haven't even seen.

He is always right, the swine.

I'm 5' 7", but I would look like a pig in that dress. If you've got the figure for it, OP, I say go for it!

50ShadesOfSummer · 25/10/2014 06:47

I'm guessing you would look lovely in that dress. Don't wear it if you're really not happy with it but if you're just a little bit unsure, go for it. I'm sure, like Chottie you will get compliments in it and then you'll love it.

Like Calvaise my DH is good at spotting stuff for me. He once persuaded me to buy a spotty pencil dress for a "do". Not the kind of thing I normally wear and I even got a positive comment from my mother - and trust me that almost never happens!

hettie · 25/10/2014 07:35

Does he have form for picking things out that you wouldn't but turn out to great? Like other posters I have a dh that does this.. And because of this would probably trust his judgement..

Chandon · 25/10/2014 07:40

Men like fitted red dresses....

The only problem for your DH is that other men will too Wink

Only get it if you feel comfortable in it.

bakingaddict · 25/10/2014 07:52

I think the style is lovely but perhaps if you have issues with the colour you could look for a similar design in a more subtle colour. If you don't feel comfortable in that dress then you are never going to fully do it justice. In order to look great you have to first feel great

PrivateJourney · 25/10/2014 07:53

DH didn't choose it, I ordered it on-line without any input from him and asked his opinion when I tried it on because I wasn't sure. I like the dress, I'm just not sure it's right for me. He doesn't usually have any input at all into what I wear and I wouldn't say he's good at clothes, doesn't really have much interest but I guess he knows what he likes!

It does feel good on, because it fits really well and is comfortable and being told you look great is always going to make you feel good too, right? But it is quite different to what I usually wear, although I've got braver as I've got older - such a shame I didn't wear show off clothes when I was young!

So, what would you wear with it?

OP posts:
Chandon · 25/10/2014 08:28

Wear a nice dress when you have a chance.

You'd need heels with this? I would say something a bit modern, to avoid the Daily Mail look.

WilburIsSomePig · 25/10/2014 08:34

I love it and if I could carry it off I would wear it at every opportunity!

Clackety · 25/10/2014 09:28

Buy it! Definitely heels, not too high though, maybe even a kitten heel? I love it - is it a cool red or a warm red? If it's cool I'm buying it!

I'm an inch shorter than you and a 12 and go in and out in the right places and I think I'd wear it but two things occur to me, it's a thick material so it's not too clingy which is great and it's a colour to get you noticed. If you can handle some admiring glances then snap it up. I'm a bit flappy when I get noticed but I'm getting better at it at 50 and like you wish I'd shown off a bit more before now!

PrivateJourney · 25/10/2014 10:28

I have these shoes. Any good? What about a jacket? Or I have a big blue/grey/navy scarf which could work as a wrap?

Or I have these sandals in Navy and a navy biker jacket?

PrivateJourney · 25/10/2014 10:33

I am on a mission to do more colour and purge the black from my wardrobe, so this is part of that but at the extreme end of the scale Grin Hence no black shoes or accessories. Up to now I've been doing more purple/blue/teal

Those FC slingys are lovely. Get them whatever.

I think if you're going to wear a dress like that, you really need to go the whole hog rather than start downplaying it.

PrivateJourney · 25/10/2014 10:46

Clackety, it's shocking pink!

OP posts:
Clackety · 25/10/2014 11:00

Shocking? You go girl! :)

SofaCanary · 25/10/2014 13:22

Wow, wear the dress!

SinglePringle · 25/10/2014 13:34

Hmmm. No I wouldn't as in order to be sexy, I need to feel sexy. Also, I'd want to be careful with a dress like that - it's a little too Ruth off This Morning for my taste.
