Help with which boots to wear with jeggings

AliBingo · 24/10/2014 09:50

I have been a size 26 for years and stuck in bootleg jeans, crocs and fleece hell, I'm ashamed to say. I've lost a lot of weight and can now fit into a size 16 jegging from M&S (which is quite a big 16 I think). I am only 5'4" so wear the short ones. Have got denim and black ones (tempted by the berry too but thinking denim and black safer/better).

I feel like some sort of dinosaur and completely out of touch so I'm hoping you can advise me.

I am going to wear the jeggings with long tunics which come to mid-thigh. I have bought some knee high riding boots which I really like (and excited to be able to do the zip up!) but now wondering if they're not right with a jegging - are they a bit frumpy now? Besides which, I feel a bit Dick Whittington in them!

So am thinking of trying an ankle boot, would prefer to buy from M&S or Next or Clarks (within my comfort zone and price points). I don't want the boot to be too narrow at the top, as will want the jegging inside it, plus my legs are not very svelte unfortunately. Want a flat very chunky/wedge low heel. Would something like this be any good?

I am nearly 40 so old enough to remember ski pants and pixie boots, and when I try ankle boots with jeggings it reminds me of that and I don't know if I am going wrong altogether.

Please can somebody help me!

Congratulations on the weight loss!

I'm a size 16 too (although I have gone up to that recently post pregnancy rather than down like you Sad) and I wear biker boots with my jeggings. The ones I have are from new look and quite wide on the ankle. Sorry on phone so can't link.

Firstly - well done on your weight loss!

I like the boots in the link, and don't think you've got it wrong at all. I can also remember pixie boots (!) and to be honest a lot of today's fashions have an 80s hint to them.

I've just seen a lady in skinnies/jeggings with ankle boots - she had either long socks or ankle warmers that were showing over the top of her ankle boots, with the ruched/pushed down/wrinkly effect, and they looked quite good.

I have these from Kurt Geiger and they are lovely

Congrats on the weight loss! I love M and S jeggings. I have them in indigo and in slate grey. They're more like jeans than leggings so fine with ankle boots. And the ones you've linked are lovely - I have the knee length version of the same boots, got them 3 years ago and still love them. Doesn't sound like you need help or guidance at all to me basically because you've got the exact same taste as me and I'm super stylish obviously

burnishedsilver · 24/10/2014 16:13

I know that pairing knee boots with jeggings isnt exactly the cutting edge of fashion but tbh I think they always look well.

HowlyBabblyBansheeeeeee · 24/10/2014 16:18

I think those boots are just right. I wish I'd bought them instead of the ugly ones that I did buy. I'm a fan of M&S jeggings too.

Well done on the amazing weight loss.

Pompbear · 24/10/2014 19:26

how about something like this? http://www.fatface.com/boots/appleton-stud-leather-boots/invt/85155

AliBingo · 24/10/2014 20:02

Thanks for all your replies, I love this board! I have been reading quite a few threads and it's been an education!

Thanks for the congrats on the weight loss, I still have a way to go, in fact I am not even sure if wearing jeggings is wise at this juncture but having read all the threads on here about mum boots and bootcut jeans, I cannot bring myself to buy bootcuts again!

I love the Kurt Geiger boots and the Fatface ones you guys linked to, even though they are completely different. I am thinking bikers might be easier to wear. Like the idea of socks peeping out the tops too, I have seen that look and again it seemed quite 80s, like legwarmers, but I think it looks nice (and warm!)

ThisBitchIsResting you said that jeggings are like jeans so ok with ankle boots - does that mean that ankle boots with actual leggings are a no-no? Knee-highs with leggings better? I have ordered the M&S ankle boots to try now anyway.

I still can't decide on whether to keep the knee-highs that I loved and rashly bought. How bad is the knee-high and jeggings combo, I see quite a few folk with them and still can't decide. I think they look pretty ok but maybe slightly dated but maybe that does't actually matter as it's still a massive improvement on dodgy Evans jeans and crocs!

I've just looked at those Fatface ones again and it says you get a £20 voucherw ith every pair which makes them quite a bargain! I have had Fatface bags and socks before but not shoes, is the quality ok?

I can feel a shopping trip coming on. But then the thought of shopping with a baby and toddler puts me off!

On a slightly different note, how do you stop jeggings wrinkling at the knee?!

Well done OP on the weight loss!

I think berry coloured jeans / jeggings look gorgeous, id get them as you can then wear them with black tops.

All of your above questions are fine - jeans, leggings and jeggings are fine with all length boots but if you're wearing leggings, make sure they are thick, good quality ones

With jeggings, I always buy half a size down so they're nice and tight, that stops them getting baggy. Also wash regularly

AppleSnapple · 24/10/2014 20:11

Yes- I agree with queenbean in the washing regularly- I inly get a day's wear out of them before they are saggy so I wash and tumble dry them to tighten them up again! (Bad environmentally speaking but great for a bit of shrinkage Grin )

ElephantsNeverForgive · 24/10/2014 20:37

I'm your size and I live in M&S jeggings and normally Clarks ankle boots. (Long tan boots if I'm dressed up, but they were expensive so I don't trash about in them every day).

I love the boots in you OP, sadly M&S, usually think, size 4 feet have size 8 ankles. I don't and every pair of their boots I try on, flap about like wellies.

Pompbear · 24/10/2014 20:47

I've got a few pairs of fat face boots - quality is good, never had any probs. Clark's have similar styles too.

you're a similar size to me (unfortunately I'm going up rather than downSad ) . straight leg jeans are worth a look, I wear mine with ankle boots.

well done on weight loss!!

Pompbear · 24/10/2014 20:48

Clark's have 20% off boots too!

IsabellaRockerfeller · 24/10/2014 20:54

Can't link on my phone but I can recommend 'shower' biker boots from Kurt geiger. half price in the sale as well! Grin Grin

Bewooohooove · 24/10/2014 21:39

I love this autumns berry and bottle green colours.
Knee boots look lovely with jeggings and are so flexible (wrong word but I mean can be dressed up or down with different longer length tops)

Boobymoonster · 25/10/2014 00:20

Oh! I've started another thread about boots, but reading this has kind of answered my questions!

I've tried a couple of pairs of ankle biker boots on but felt they needed to be wider to look right with my calves.

Love the Fatface ones linked....
