Hi,I have just turned 40 and have become stuck in a rut as far as clothes are concerned.Am feeling frumpy and fancy a change. Normally live in jeans, tunics, and flat ballet pumps.
Have 2 children 5 and 3 so regularly doing the school run.
I am 5ft 2 and size 12

Would be gratful for any advice on what to wear this autumn/winter.

Ooh Soph,do you do stretch jeans?
I find they always slide down in crotch,no matter how tight.

You need some tweed Risingsun.

I may just dig out my old school cloka (really!) It would beperfect.

Gobbledispook · 01/10/2006 23:02

Slouch jeans are also in and look good with trendy trainers.

There's a nice sweater dress in Oasis with a v-neck and pinched in the waist. It's in grey and also a really nice dark/moss green.

For daytime, apart from slouch jeans (v.comfy) I'll be wearing skirts with tights and knee high boots.

Tweed trousers are also in but I'm going to wear mine 'dressed down' with my brown rocket dog trainers as I'm SAHM/WAHM so don't need heels for the day really.

moondog · 01/10/2006 23:04

Everything looks as it did when I was about 14 (1981)
What are slouch jeans when they're at home then?????

risingsun · 01/10/2006 23:05

Tweeds sound good moondog. Are people still wearing the 3/4 turn up trousers.I fancy a pair of those with wedge suede boots and maybe a longline cardigan although I am only 5ft 2.

What colours are in this season?

I remember having a hackney jacket with cord patch pockets in the 80's!!!

SOunds good risingsun

slouch jeans are just more loose round the leg really, and sort of longish. Fitted around derriere though so can still be flattering!

moondog · 01/10/2006 23:08

I think it was a hacking jacket Rising!!

Ooh yes,and granny shoes!

I remeber seeing my first pair of 'baggies' on a very groovy 6th former.

Wow!!

moondog · 01/10/2006 23:09

Can visualise slouch trousers (sort of Katherine Hepburnish) but slouch jeans?? Hmmmmmm,I fear that one would end up looking like a hired hand on an Arkansas corn farm.

Gobbledispook · 01/10/2006 23:10

Er, no

moondog · 01/10/2006 23:11

To which?
Slouch trousers????

Oh,I'm lost!

controlfreaky2 · 01/10/2006 23:12

am wearing one of my THREE pairs of slouch jeans right now and they are the biz... go on try it moondog

puff · 01/10/2006 23:14

....er I do look like the hired hand on the farm in slouch jeans

Gobbledispook · 01/10/2006 23:14

No, you don't look like an Arkansas farm hand

Gobbledispook · 01/10/2006 23:14

Oh x posts.

I don't!

controlfreaky2 · 01/10/2006 23:15

moondog · 01/10/2006 23:15

Off to Brighton for long weekend at end of week so could get into some serious shopping...

(The only bugger is online banking.Dh will ring me that night saying 'What did you spend £95 on in Gap/Hobbs/Topshop?????')

puff · 01/10/2006 23:15

I got some lovely trews in Fat Face last week

risingsun · 01/10/2006 23:17

I look awful in skinny jeans too - they ain't good for hourglass figures

moondog · 01/10/2006 23:17

I would look like a farm hand.
However,as I have in fact been a farm hand on a farm in the Deep South,in all probability,I wouldn't mind.

When did this 'trew' word come into being?Last time I saw it used was on my boarding school uniform list circa 1978.

Mymother wears Fat Face Puff. She is pretty cool.

moondog · 01/10/2006 23:18

Skinny jeans are horrid.Again, have nasty memories of butchering jeans in boarding school to make them really tight like that.

I think they make people look like poor stock.

puff · 01/10/2006 23:19

They have some lovely stuff in this season - my kind of colours - aubergine, mossy greens

risingsun · 01/10/2006 23:19

Just been thinking of what I have in my wardrobe.

Are ponchos still in?
I have a brown crochet one and a pale green knitted one.

Could anyone post a link for slouch jeans as I have NO IDEA what they are.

I am 35, 5ft 6 and size 12/14 and need a bit of updating I think.

I dont have any need for slouch jeans as I am either working front of house in our restaurant, helping out at school (where I wouldnt wear jeans) or doing kid stuff.

I think I have lost who I am (which is a great thread title that I might use later on)

I seem to buy clothes that are suitable for work or slobbing with the kids and dont really know what is me anymore.

Mmmmmmmmmmm. dont know what to do.
