Hi,I have just turned 40 and have become stuck in a rut as far as clothes are concerned.Am feeling frumpy and fancy a change. Normally live in jeans, tunics, and flat ballet pumps.
Have 2 children 5 and 3 so regularly doing the school run.
I am 5ft 2 and size 12

Would be gratful for any advice on what to wear this autumn/winter.

i got some nice ones in next of all places (dont usually like anything in there... about #35.
saw that sweater dress thing in oasis. very nice but those of us 40+ would need to wear over trousers i reckon and not sure how well that works... just under knee length / bit a line better imho

controlfreaky2 · 01/10/2006 23:23

rubbish at links collision but look on next website under casual clothes then "rockschool" section. they are described as slouchy. moondog... love that expression "poor stock"... thought that was something only my mother used.

moondog · 01/10/2006 23:25

lol CF.
I love it!!!I think Kate Moss is from poor stock.I really don't get it with her.

Lmao at Collision having 'no need for slouch jeans'

controlfreaky2 · 01/10/2006 23:27

collision, you do sound brisk rather than slouchy!

collision · 01/10/2006 23:35

I want to be slouchy but am being practical and so sound rather brisk!!! LOL

The thing is when you put your lifestyle on paper it does sound a bit depressing. I cannot think when I would wear 'slouch jeans'.

I bought some bright purple linen casual trousers from Next but I have no need for them and no time to wear them as they are unsuitable for most aspects of my life!!! I think I might be becoming depressed!

moondog · 01/10/2006 23:36

Collision, your purple trousers sound perfect for front of house!
What do yuo wear normally?
What kind of restaurant is it??

collision · 01/10/2006 23:40

OOOOOH no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have an Italian Bistro and A La Carte Fine Dining Restaurant so I am suited up most nights.

I have 2 suits. One brown and one black.

In the summer I wore brown/black linen trousers and tops that were suitable for front of house.

Purple linen trousers are so not right!!!!!

moondog · 01/10/2006 23:43

Ah fair enough.Thought you might be doing a sort of bohemian thing..all scrubbed tables and mismatched chairs. Was thinking purple trousers, intersting earrings, nice sandals.

Suit sounds good.
If it aint broke and all that.

Very easy to get into rut I think esp. with young kids. I am starting to take more of an interest now that youngest is 26 mths and not quite so high maintenence.

collision · 01/10/2006 23:45

My youngest is still only 22 months and quite high maintenance.

I would like to be trendier though.

Im not frumpy but could do to keep my eye on it IYSWIM!!

You in UK ATM or Turkey, MD??

Heathcliffscathy · 01/10/2006 23:49

oh god skinny jeans/sweater dress combo is godsend for hourglass (read baby tummy).

long thin looking legs (skinnies with ankle boots with heel at end of them) and slouchy sweater dress to cover all sins of midriff!

moondog · 01/10/2006 23:51

UK Collision (thank God.Ramadan in Turkey is hell on earth, not least because for a month, people parade at dawn outside your home banging a drum to wake you to eat before sunrise.First time it happened, thought it was a bomb.Scared the shit out of us to be woken at 4:30 am by a huge BOOM!!!!)
