Do,you have a lot of clothes?

I was reading a blog where they were talking about getting rid of something like eight pairs of jeans and 20 scarves. I don have anything like that amount of clothes. I have one worn to death pair of black jeans, two pairs of blue jeans that don't fit and a pair of burgundy ones that also don't fit (seeing a pattern here).

I have four dresses I rotate for work, one pair of tights Blush, two bras that bit but are ancient, one pair of black boots, one pair of work shoes, one pair of going out boots and two pairs of stroppy sandals, one pair of converse type shoes, maybe ten tops. I do have various "going out things" and some odd bits but was wondering what was the norm.

I can't imaging having ten pairs of jeans or more than one pair of boots!

Strappy not stroppy!

I try as far as possible to operate a one-in-one out system. And things that don't fit need a very good reason to stay!

That said, I have about 30 pairs of shoes/ boots, and far too many fancy frocks....

frankietwospots · 12/10/2014 16:50

At one point, I had 16 pairs of coloured skinny jeans. Then I got rid of them and now have about 12 pairs of blue, grey and black skinnies, plus boyfriend jeans. Scarves? So many that the hanger is creaking. Easily 20, more like 25. Guilty as charged but what can I say? I love clothes and I love shopping.

ChocPretzels · 12/10/2014 16:51

Yes I have lots of clothes. Far more than I should probably have - I could probably wear something different every day for several months. +70 pairs of shoes / boots. More black dresses than I can remember.

But!! I have amassed this amount over many many years and despite occasionally doing a 1 in 1 out, I can't really bear to throw anything away. I still have, like and can't bear to throw away stuff from 20 years ago - I know it's hoarding, but I want it. So there. As long as I can squeeze it into my wardrobe(s) then surely that's ok? Grin

CatKisser · 12/10/2014 16:53

Nope. I rotate through about 10 tops (a mix of work, home and going out) 4 pairs of trousers and 2 pairs of shoes. I only ever have 2 bras on the go and keep them in constant rotation.
I really need to spend a good £200 or so on bulking up my wardrobe but I keep telling myself that's pointless when I want to lose weight. Sad

specialsubject · 12/10/2014 16:53

no. Clothes are just for warmth and covering what the rest of the world doesn't want to see. I detest shopping, wear things until they disintegrate and then replace with something as near identical as possible.

the only pleasure I take in clothing is putting on a new pair of knickers. Thank you, Asda. :-)

dexter73 · 12/10/2014 17:03

I have loads of clothes. A capsule wardrobe is not for me!!

JaceLancs · 12/10/2014 17:08

I have so many clothes.......I like to colour co ordinate very carefully, and like lots of variety
Sometimes I buy things very cheaply knowing I will only wear them a few times then get bored - every so often I have an clear out and sell on e bay then use the money to buy different things
I also have clothes for many different occasions, moods etc, my work wardrobe is completely separate from weekend, going out, holidays etc all demand a different look.
I am just in the process of swapping summer for winter, packed away all my sandals and ballet flats, unpacked the boots and brogues - as an example I own 14 pairs of boots in either brown or black but they are all different leg lengths, shapes, heel heights etc, therefore go with different things

Greengardenpixie · 12/10/2014 17:22

Yes, i have lots of clothes. Loads of jeans tbh...i have tried to get rid of them but its hard!!

msfreud · 12/10/2014 17:27

I have lots... got rid of some recently when moving house but have since bought a few new things again. For about five years now I've gone for quality pieces I can keep for many years and plan to have most of these clothes for a long time. (I buy things that are my style rather than trendy as such so they don't date.) Most are every day clothes as work is smart casual.

I have at least 7 pairs of ankle boots, 3 pairs of mid calf boots and 3 pairs of long boots. 5 pairs of brogues, 6 pairs of more casual lace up shoes or trainers, countless pairs of ballet flats and sandals.

yummypickledeggs · 12/10/2014 17:59

No I don't have.
I don't have the need for very dressy clothes.
I have around 6 bras and 25 pairs of knickers.
I have about 6 pairs of trousers- combo of jeans, velvet jeans, and a pair of smarter black trousers ( I also have around 3 pairs of summer trousers.)
I own around 4 dresses for summer and 4 dresses/ tunics for winter.
I have 3 winter coats that are smart ( and were expensive) plus parkas, fleeces and waterproofs.
I have 3 pairs of knee boots, 3 pairs of ankle boots, but practically no cold weather shoes because I have funny feet to fit.
I tend to buy quality not quantity and Ebay anything I'm bored with or which has gone out of fashion a bit.

velourvoyageur · 12/10/2014 18:15

I spend a lot of my budget on clothes but I wouldn't say I have a lot of them cos I keep chucking them out and reevaluating. To be honest it's a bit of a hobby, love looking through my stuff Grin

Putting a load on ebay as I type! photos taking forever to load.....
Put my last load on about two weeks ago, it's pretty regular.

thenightsky · 12/10/2014 18:44

I have too many clothes to be honest, and half of them are either too big, too small or just generally ill-fitting and uncomfy to wear. I recently gave a bag of 7 or 8 pairs of jeans to DD to distribute among her friends and charity shop what they didn't want.

Like the poster below, I have different boots/shoes to match different outfits, so they add up to about 20 or 30 pairs (inc sandals/beach shoes).

Notcontent · 12/10/2014 20:11

Yes, I do. But not as many as some people because I regularly get rid of stuff.

Valsoldknickers · 12/10/2014 20:50

I have far too many clothes yet when I go to my wardrobe I will often sigh that I have "nothing to wear". Currently trying to shed post pregnancy weight so when that is done I will then do a bit of a cull.

I have some (what I think are) really nice clothes but no idea or time to pull everything together properly!

RockMummy · 12/10/2014 21:20

I love clothes and clothes shopping. I enjoy choosing things to match things I already have and occasionally to try something new. I have two separate warderobes, one for winter and one for summer. Within that I have work and casual clothes to suit my moods.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 12/10/2014 21:37

I have lots of clothes - I enjoy them and like to have options. Most of them work together as I tend to buy complementary shades of colours, so I have lots of easy outfit choices. Luckily so, as I always have to dress in a hurry.

Hopefully · 12/10/2014 21:49

I don't have many and TBH I need more. I've taken capsule wardrobe-ing to extremes this year because I didn't want to replace clothes while still a size bigger post natal. I will probably spend a couple of hundred on uniqlo basics/more jeans over the winter to give myself a bit more choice.

grumpasaur · 12/10/2014 21:52

Hi have a lot of clothes. And I love them all!

BecauseIsaidS0 · 12/10/2014 21:55

I don't have many, because:

  • if I haven't worn something for a year or longer, it goes to the charity shop.
  • I don't have a problem with wearing something twice or even more often in a week.
  • I try to only buy things I love.
  • I'm a creature of habit.

So even though I love clothes, nope I don't have many. I do have a large collection of evening wear, but that's because I keep those for the daughter I will never have.

Chandon · 12/10/2014 22:02

In my 20s I had 3 work suits, 3 pairs of jeans, two summer dresses, 1 pair of shoes and 1 pair of boots.

Now I am older I have a lot more clothes.

How old are you?

I tend to replace thinsg and then not chucking out the old item.

Mominatrix · 12/10/2014 22:03

I don't have a huge wardrobe, but many people think I do. My style is essentially quite classic, and I prefer to spend a lot of money on a couple items than buy cheaply and widely. I have things in my wardrobe from 15 years ago, but they are things like a white and blue Chanel suit and a Mark Jacobs runway evening dress which never date. I bring my outfits up to date with accessories - scarves and shawls principally, and well chosen Zara items. I also intersperse my outfits with vintage items (things from the 1930 to the 1960s) which make them interesting. I have an annual cull and get rid of any item which has not been worn over the past 3 years, and replace those items. I also update items by having them retailored, bringing new life to favourite items.

chickydoo · 12/10/2014 22:05

OscarWinningActress · 12/10/2014 22:05

I do but it's only the last few years that I've been able to build up my wardrobe. I only buy classics that I know I'll wear, from brands that I know fit me well and that will last.
