Do,you have a lot of clothes?

I was reading a blog where they were talking about getting rid of something like eight pairs of jeans and 20 scarves. I don have anything like that amount of clothes. I have one worn to death pair of black jeans, two pairs of blue jeans that don't fit and a pair of burgundy ones that also don't fit (seeing a pattern here).

I have four dresses I rotate for work, one pair of tights Blush, two bras that bit but are ancient, one pair of black boots, one pair of work shoes, one pair of going out boots and two pairs of stroppy sandals, one pair of converse type shoes, maybe ten tops. I do have various "going out things" and some odd bits but was wondering what was the norm.

I can't imaging having ten pairs of jeans or more than one pair of boots!

yes loads of stuff. i do clear out things and have a seasonal wardrobe.

Oly4 · 12/10/2014 22:13

Absolutely loads
About 20 pairs of jeans, maybe 60 tops, similar amount of knitwear, about 20 summer dresses and skirts... And so on. Four pairs of boots, about 30 pairs of shoes, about 10 coats for all seasons.
I adore clothes and love working out what to wear

HandMini · 12/10/2014 22:14

No.

Following two babies, I really culled my wardrobe when I chucked out the maternity gear. I started again, following a basic capsule wardrobe concept, and now I have about 5 pairs of trousers and 10 tops, 2 pairs of boots, one lovely wool coat. All my summer stuff (3 shorts, 3 sundresses) is packed away.

All my clothes are much nicer and way more expensive than the kind of things I wore pre-children.

I hate clutter, live in a small place and am not a big shopper

so the minimalist approach suits me well.

LoveWillTearUsApart · 12/10/2014 22:16

Yes - far too many clothes.
It's because I lack confidence, and every time there is a social occasion I panic and buy something else.
I really need to get rid of all the pre-baby clothes, but I keep kidding myself that one day I'll be back in them (It's been nearly ten years since DC2 was born!)

Liquoricelips · 12/10/2014 22:44

I have 60 dresses! But in my defence they have been collected over many years and I never wear separates.

foxdongle · 12/10/2014 23:15

Not as many as before I culled them and stopped wasting money and time buying identical or unwearable stuff.
Now I still have quite a few but at least they fit/I love them blah blah.
Clothes shopping is rare instead I use Pinterest for ideas of how to wear what I have.

foxdongle · 12/10/2014 23:19

Oh and I buy decent underwear regularly still-it's what wears out goes tatty first imo.
how do you manage with 1 pair of tights?!

charlietwork · 12/10/2014 23:22

I have hundreds of clothes, across the equivalent of 2.5 wardrobes. About a third are probably too small and could be ditched if I had time to sort through them. Couldn't list items from memory, there's too much. My weakness is sales and discount stores and picking things up because it's too much of a bargain to resist. Also I hate having to shop last minute so I like picking up items for an occasion which hasn't arisen but might come up (e.g. a bargain dress on sale which would be good for a wedding). Sometimes this works out well, sometimes the occasion doesn't happen and/or I change dress sizes before it ever becomes useful. I'd never be a minimalist and I don't aspire to be one but soon I will try to clear out items which don't fit as the space they take up annoys me.

alemci · 13/10/2014 08:42

i always buy similar things in the same colours. also i am not as slim as I was 5 years' ago

I have alot of tops but find it hard to buy trousers.

sometimes my dds borrow things but they are both at uni now so I can keep track of my stuff.

I hang on to things longer than when i was younger

yummypickledeggs · 13/10/2014 09:10

60 dresses- OMG! How much space do you have? I have 1 rail about 6 feet long for dresses, tops, knitwear, trousers and coats. (Though some coats are in spare room wardrobe.)

I have nothing in my wardrobe that is over perhaps 2-3 years old. Everything that I go off, or is dated gets sold or taken to charity shops. I just don't have the storage space for loads of clothes and I hate wasting money on clothes that are never worn to death. I really have to love everything in my wardrobe. Less is more for me.

Chandon · 13/10/2014 14:44

liquoricelips, I am a dresses person too.

I "only" have about 25 though

BabCNesbitt · 13/10/2014 15:40

Nope - I'm desperately short of things to wear, but keep schlepping around shops and failing to find anything that looks like "me", as I have no idea of what that might be any more.

I currently own:

2 short-sleeved tops
1 cardigan
1 v-neck jumper
1 long-sleeved striped top
4 vest tops
1 striped shirt
1 pair of pyjamas
1 pair of leggings (for when my pyjamas are in the wash - I borrow a t-shirt from DH)
2 bras
10 pairs of knickers
10 pairs of socks
1 dress (unworn)
1 pair of smart trousers (also unworn, bought for if/when I get back to work)
2 pairs of jeans (one pair's cropped and useless outside of summer)

I think I need a shopping intervention.

quirkychick · 13/10/2014 15:47

I thought this might be Hopefully posting!

I have much more of a capsule wardrobe now, and tbh it suits me. I do put away non-seasonal stuff which is always fun to get out again. I

quirkychick · 13/10/2014 15:52

quirkychick · 13/10/2014 15:53

Phone playing up! Apologies for post being all over the place!

blardyfeck · 13/10/2014 15:59

I have 2 wardrobes, 3 chests of drawers, and endless boxes of stuff. Tons of work clothes, even though I haven't worked for 6 years. Maternity clothes I won't be wearing again. Clothes that range from size 10 to 14, as my weight has fluctuated & my shape has changed many times over the years.
Cheap stuff that should be chucked and more expensive stuff for "best" that I never wear.
Going out outfits that never get worn.
Shoes and boots with heels that never get worn as I live in flat trainers and flat boots.
I think I have about 50 pairs of jeans, most of which I will never wear again.

I know I need to sort it out but I genuinely don't know where to start
Sad

hollyisalovelyname · 13/10/2014 16:19

Far too many and I have nothing to wear some mornings. Smile
But I do so wish I could just sort it out. I hate tidying/ editing.

yummypickledeggs · 13/10/2014 16:19

Maybe start with things that fit and things that don't?
Make 2 piles.
Unless you are dieting seriously or trying to put weight on, be realistic over what fits or is likely to in 6 months from now.

I tend to make 4 piles- keep, charity shop, Ebay, dustbin/reccyling.

The I go through the 'keep' pile again. If it's not been worn for 2 years ( excluding maybe something that is for very hot or very cold weather or has some special purpose) , it's put in one of the other piles.

Missunreasonable · 13/10/2014 16:26

Yes, I have far too many clothes, but I love shopping and I love sewing do my clothing collection seems to grow ever larger.
I also have lots of footwear; at least 60 pairs of shoes / boots.

Liquoricelips · 14/10/2014 12:29

60 dresses includes work dresses (very formal), weekend dresses, party frocks, sun dresses. Put away in the loft on a covered hanging rail at the end of each season and I'm happy to loan to friends whenever they want. Suits me !

BoftheP · 14/10/2014 12:56

When I had a ft job, a social life and gym membership I had loads of clothes. Now I'm a SAHM, have two kids, a cat, a spare tyre around my middle and an infestation of moths in my wardrobe. So, as of this week my wardrobe is about a 1/5 of the size it was a few years ago.

EmmaJan2015 · 14/10/2014 15:28

Yes. Far too many. It's like an illness!!

I have two large wardrobes full, plus a separate wardrobe full of just coats and jackets, and another full of just dresses. Then there's the sets of drawers too. Plus a load of those vacuum bags under the bed where I store out of season stuff.

At a conservative estimate...30+ coats, 50+ dresses, 25+ jeans, 100s of tops, no idea how many shoes or bags! The expensive shoes are in their original boxes but the rest are stored in vintage stacked trunks.

Up until recently we used our two spare bedrooms as dressing rooms but with our first baby on the way we've had to make some changes. I've given loads to charity and stored some in the loft/cellar etc.

To make up for it, i've been working on our babies wardrobe instead. Sometimes i'll open her wardrobe and just look at everything hung and folded neatly...[happy sigh] Grin

BlueEyedWonder · 14/10/2014 17:19

Around 3 years ago I lost weight, going from a size 12 to a size 6/8. Everything was too big so it was an opportunity to overhaul my wardrobe. I like simple, understated clothes and stick to a colour palette of black, blues, greys, creams, teal, olive, mustard and the odd bit of neon pink. I agree with another poster that re-evaluating my wardrobe is a bit of a hobby. I ebay regularly.
I have currently:
4 blue jeans, 1 black jeans, 1 leather leggings, 1 black wool trouser, 2 chinos
1 denim skirt, 1 black leather pleat skirt, 1 jersey pencil skirt, 1 black wool shorts, 1 denim shorts
2 sleeveless summer dresses, 1 short sleeve denim dress, 1 LBD, 1 navy silk smart dress, 1 long sleeve black jersey dress, 1 stripe dress
4 shirts, 2 blouses, 10 vests / t-shirt tops, 6 striped tops
3 cardigans, 6 jumpers
1 trench, 1 wool coat, 1 tweed blazer, 1 parka, 1 quilted jacket, 1 leather biker, 1 waterproof
5 scarves, 2 hats, 4 pairs gloves, 4 belts
7 ankle boots, 10 shoes
2 trainers and lots of running attire.

Littlemoocow · 14/10/2014 19:58

I couldn't list my clothes, I have far too many for that. Sometimes I think it's a bit of an addiction but I love clothes and I do try to wear most of them as I love to mix and match and style things differently
