Good hair salon wanted in Nottingham or Derby

Here I go again.......
I went to a local salon, recommended on fbk and I find that the right side of my hair is longer than the left side!! I'm sick of hairdressers that can't even cut my hair an equal length - even I could do this and I'm not a trained hairdresser. I went back and she evened it up a bit but I'm not going there again

So now I'm looking again for a hairdresser who's good at cutting my thick but fine wavy hair. I just want a good cut from a hairdresser who will listen to me and look at my hair and will do what is best for my hair and my style - casual scruff :). I don't want someone who does the latest style on you whoever you are. I just want a stylist that knows what they're are doing and can do it well is this too much to ask? I don't mind how much or where it is

Thanks and hope I've not offended any hairdressers :)

What's your budget?

Mid price - Mark Scott in Derby's great.

Top price - Hester at Vidal Sassoon in Nottingham is absolutely fantastic.

Nellymay · 22/09/2014 23:38

Oh, that was a quick reply, LadySybil ! thank you.
I was considering sassoon's although it's pricey- wonder if they do discounts.......?
I'm not sure about mark Scott's as I was put off by the young kids standing around doing nothing - sorry I'm intolerant, sometimes. :)

I thought I could go to sassoon's and then go a bit longer between cuts so it doesn't work out so expensive over a year, what do you think?

They are doing £35 haircuts with a level 1 or 2 stylist at the moment. I take ds there, he has his hair cut by a lovely woman with an orange bob (I can't remember her name, sorry, but she's fab).

There used to be a Mark Scott on Saddler Gate, I think it's closed though. The other one is on the Spot so I'm not surprised there's kids loitering.

LadySybilLikesCake · 22/09/2014 23:47

I go once a year. It doesn't make the £65 as painful Grin

Nellymay · 22/09/2014 23:49

I'll check them out tomorrow, as I'm going into nottm.
I used to go as a model to Vidal sassoon's in London when I when I was a student - it was great!

It's a fab salon, do ask for the lady with the orange bob, she's lovely. Hester's one of the senior stylists so more expensive and is the only hairdresser in Nottingham or Derby who was willing to do as I'd asked (chop it all off!). I don't have my hair coloured there though, I do it at home as that's twice as expensive as the haircut Shock

Don't go to Toni and Guy. They only know one haircut and will refuse to deviate.

Nellymay · 23/09/2014 09:53

Thank you, LadySybil I'll take your advice.

I've been to hairdressers like tony n g and came away with a straightened inverted bob - exactly what I'd asked him NOT to do but he insisted on it. Needless to say I never went back....

If she's still there, I'd recommend Scottish Karen at Solos on Bridlesmiths Gate in Nottingham (there used to be two Karens). She's the best hairdresser I've ever had. She set up the business but I moved away a fair few years ago so not sure if she's still there. I used to travel up from London because she was so good!

LadySybilLikesCake · 23/09/2014 12:37

I went to the one in Derby and wanted a short bob. My hair was half way down my back and the 'stylist' refused to cut it that short Hmm I took ds for a haircut before he started secondary school and he ended up in tears as a different 'stylist' was rude to him and kept making fun out of the fact that he didn't want a haircut. Angry We both go to VS now, it's one of the 2 that we've found where he feels happy to go. We did try Peppers just off the Market Square and that hairdresser was rude to ds too (ds doesn't like haircuts. He'd much prefer to look like Qui-Gon_Jinn but his school threatened to suspend him if he didn't get it cut Sad)

[[http://www.sallymontague.co.uk/salons Sally Montague]] really nice hairdressers and very good stylists.

I would recommend Vicky at the Old Hall salon if she is still there, always did my hair really well and i had it all over the years (blonde, red, brunette, long hair trim, cut short into bob, cropped etc). I only stopped going because i relocated.

Nellymay · 23/09/2014 20:40

I've an appointment for this Thursday afternoon at sassoon's with Zoe the manager, she's expensive but I thought I could space the appointments out over the year. My logic is that I spend more trying to get bad haircuts fixed so if I get a good cut I'll save money :)

Smile We'll need to see a picture of the end you know Wink

I do that. I have it cut once or twice a year so it saves me money.

Nellymay · 26/09/2014 18:09

Well, I had it done!! It's much shorter than Id thought of getting it but I really like it! I feel like a new woman.
It's longish on top a floppy fringe and soft and curly around my a face and quite tapered at the back.
I could tell that my St ylist really knew what she was doing and it's the difference between a very good hairdresser and a mediocre one

I'll stick a pic up soon. :) thanks for the recommendations :)

I'd love to see a pic, didn't have any recommendations but I quite often visit Derby or Nottm so will be interested. Is your hair quite curly Nellymay, because anyone who can deal with waves/curls is golddust!

LadySybilLikesCake · 26/09/2014 21:19

Excellent, I'm so pleased you're happy with it Smile I have an appointment on Wednesday unless I get roped into working, again!

Nellymay · 26/09/2014 22:15

Temporary yes it is - it's sort of kinky wavy hair, if you get me and can get quite heavy as its so thick but fine. Which stylist are you having, LadySybil?

OP posts:
LadySybilLikesCake · 26/09/2014 22:17

Hester Smile

LadySybilLikesCake · 26/09/2014 22:21

My hair used look like a slightly longer version of this. It really needs a trim now but it's still in shape, just not this one IYKWIM. I'm resisting the urge to go pixie.

Ah, it sounds a bit like mine, I'm always on the lookout for someone who is good with thick but fine wavy hair Smile.

Hope your appointment goes well Lady Sybil.

LadySybilLikesCake · 28/09/2014 19:12

Thank you. It would be useful if I could remember what time it is Blush
